Why I regret voting for Obama
Before John McCain unwittingly picked a tabloid-magazine cover girl for his running mate, I was leaning toward going Republican this time around. I did the second time Bush was on the ballot and I very nearly did the first time, too. But as soon as Palin climbed out of her igloo and onto the national scene, well, there was no turning back for me.
You see, I felt my choice was to risk McCain dropping dead and letting the world’s most well-known hockey mom run this country, or to believe that Obama would surround himself with educated people and that he was smart enough to take their advice.
I was right. He is smart enough to seek counsel. I’m just outraged at the counsel he’s seeking these days. Key financial leaders who are tax cheats come immediately to mind, but as the recent terror attack made clear to me, the idea that a president of the most powerful nation in the world could think it was OK to have a Homeland Security chief with such a loose grasp of what terrorism is and how it works is troubling.

And the women in your groups have validated all the worst things people say about us – that we’re nasty, vicious jealous b*tches who resent other women getting ahead unless they’re plain, older manly types like Napolitano.

Two things-
I was simply relaying anecdotal information, not my OPINION, and two, while I’m sure it wasn’t your intent, you come off as just a little bit nasty and bitter.

Maybe she is “Ellie Light”.
Voter from WA State on January 24, 2010 at 2:05 PM
I like how she relentlessly bashes Obama, but all you people can focus on are the things she said about McCain and Palin.
The things she felt were not just felt by her, but by MILLIONS of Indies, who decided the election.
So she was wrong. She realizes that now. Palin’s still working to take back her image from a Liberal media (which is why the Fox News gig and her appearing on Oprah twice now is so smart) who hates her, and maybe this lady will come around once she does indeed take it back.
nickj116 on January 24, 2010 at 2:06 PM
THis is more proof that Palin is toxic to independents. Without her, McCain would have won because Palin turned off so many independents. The election was close.
But keep cheerleading for Palin, anyway. I’m sure four more years of Obama won’t hurt at all.

That down-to-earth, “average Jane,” homespun “hockey mom” is looking pretty good right about now.

She’ll vote for him again in 2012. She pretty much says the republicans better put up a good candidate to her liking or else….she hasn’t learned a thing.
deidre on January 24, 2010 at 2:08 PM
Who wrote this drivel ? AllahP ?
abobo on January 24, 2010 at 2:08 PM
No, she doesn’t.
She’s just ticked that her personal, petty illusory white guilt wasn’t sufficiently alleviated by her vote to kill our nation on Nov 4th, 2008.
Jill Dorkson is pure slime.
neurosculptor on January 24, 2010 at 2:08 PM
lol at this whole piece.
I voted proudly for Hillary (but in Michigan so it kind of wasn’t a vote per se) and then proudly for McCain/Palin.
This editorial is nothing more than “I regret voting for Obama, but blame Palin for forcing me to vote Obama!”
Yeah. Aaaaand SCENE.
lansing quaker on January 24, 2010 at 2:08 PM
But wait a minute. Palin herself admitted that she could have said and done some things differently. One example she gave was not giving an answer to Katie Couric about what kinds of things she reads. That would have been a very simple thing to answer, but she didn’t, and the MSM noticed.
So while the MSM was complicit in the murder of her image, Palin shouldn’t totally be exempt from criticism.
nickj116 on January 24, 2010 at 2:09 PM
There may be a few who fit that sterotype, but overall they just don’t like her. They seem to think she’s stupid. They like Fiorina, and they like Meg Whitman. I can’t explain it, but I don’t think you can assume that it’s always jealousy.
anniekc on January 24, 2010 at 2:09 PM
Then why did so many democrats win in the senate and house? I’m sure that was Palin’s fault too huh? it wasn’t because of the financial melt down huh?
deidre on January 24, 2010 at 2:10 PM
That’s IDIOTIC. Palin excited the base, and made the election FAR closer than it would have been if she wouldn’t have been McCain’s running mate.
Look at the turnout for her rallies vs. the turnout for his. Not even close.
nickj116 on January 24, 2010 at 2:11 PM
Sigh. That’s not what she said at all. Read the piece again.
nickj116 on January 24, 2010 at 2:12 PM
You’re correct. But, it’s not just liberal women who have that attitude about Palin. Liberal men are also brainwashed in the same exact way – possibly just to be in sync with their liberal women, but who knows.
The funny/sad part is that, among McShame, Palin, Biden and The Precedent, the dumbest one is The Precedent, with Biden a close second. Hands down.
neurosculptor on January 24, 2010 at 2:12 PM
What a moron. Anyone who spent 30 mins looking into Obama’s past knew exactly what they were getting. Jill was just enthralled with making history. Just like David Brooks. Peggy Noonan, Kathleen Parker and the rest.
angryed on January 24, 2010 at 2:13 PM
No. It is not and “excellent” piece.
She was told over and over that Obama was a grifter.
Her words betray her as a self-centered, better-than-thou, “educated” twit who judges others not by their accomplishments but by how they make her “feel”.
She will use this same criteria come 2010 – “How does he/she make me “feel”.
Rod on January 24, 2010 at 2:15 PM
It was the over-the-top igloo smear that sets off everyone. Poor phrase to use if the writer is honestly trying to express regret for voting for Obama. She is shifting the blame of her poor decision onto Palin’s shoulders and it’s beyond pathetic and infuriating.
Mord on January 24, 2010 at 2:15 PM
I still don’t understand the antagonism these people have towards Palin. She didn’t just walk out of an igloo, the woman was the elected Governor of Alaska. She took on and beat the Alaska GOP machine. She took on and beat the oil companies. I suspect that her real crime is not being from the “pool”. The “pool” is the approved educational institutions from which our “educated” elites are supposed to have graduated. They look down their noses at anyone who has gone elsewhere as if they aren’t really qualified to lead. More evidence of elitist arrogance.
DerKrieger on January 24, 2010 at 2:15 PM
And she freely admits that and says she was wrong.
Ease up everyone. Sheesh. How about we focus our vitriol on people who STILL haven’t woken up? At least Jill has.
nickj116 on January 24, 2010 at 2:16 PM
Meeeeeeow. A chick who doesn’t like other chicks — especially attractive ones — so she cast her precious vote for a loser. Good. Losers belong together.
Rational Thought on January 24, 2010 at 2:16 PM
She never says she won’t vote for him again. This is a “scorned woman” piece. I fits in nicely with Obama’s abusive language toward the voters. All he has to do is apologise to her & she will be there in a teddy waiting for him. She voted for him for his style, not substance.

History made. Gee thanks Mam. /
CWforFreedom on January 24, 2010 at 2:18 PM
That’s the saddest thing of all. The MEDIA made that image of her. And too many people swallowed it up, credulously.
Where does she go to get her good image back? They’re going to “diss” her and her family just like they did Dan Quayle, until the end of time. That is not what that family wanted for their lives, I believe.
This alone should be a warning to many other women who have achieved and happen to be Conservative – and pretty. I’ve been so angry at women behaving like high school cliques and acting like beasts before another woman who behaves “not like them”. What did SHE do to them to merit this? Nothing.
And that comment from that professor who said that Palin “pretends to be a woman”, just did it to me. When did she stop being a woman? When she declared herself a Republican? When McCain picked her? When she gave birth to Trig? I’m as woman as I have been my entire life, attended a women’s college, even gave birth to two girls – yet, according to these jerks in public life, I don’t count as a woman because I’m a Conservative?
Think about it. Those people dehumanize Sarah and her family, and they are not afraid to do it to anybody else. Even any of us here. It’s time to fight back.
newton on January 24, 2010 at 2:19 PM
First, I sincerely want to thank you for your civil response. Not used to that.
Secondly, I think you’re right in that she shouldn’t have used that phrasing. However, I’m not sure if that’s how she feels NOW or if that’s how she felt when she first saw Palin. It almost sounds as if that’s how she initially felt.
Even if she is still bashing Palin, she’s also bashing Obama, so let’s not lose sight of that.
nickj116 on January 24, 2010 at 2:19 PM
Hells to the no I am not forgiving anyone and not letting up no my vitriol.
She didn’t make an honest mistake. She knew who Obama was/is. Everyone knew. We (people who voted against him) didn’t want to make history at the expense of our country. They (including this imbecile Jill) decided it was more important to be part of history and risk the destruction of the country than it was to vote for a woman who GOD FORBID is good looking.
That is why I hate these people.
angryed on January 24, 2010 at 2:19 PM
I expect to see this “admitting Obama is a disaster but overshadowing that admission with a healthy dose of Palin bashing” technique employed a lot between now and when the republican nominee for 2012 is chosen. It kills several birds with one stone for lefties. Think about it.

I guess I misinterpreted the last sentence wrong then. It sounds like she’s saying if republicans can’t find the candidate, then I won’t vote for the republican candidate. Obviously, she won’t be voting for Palin…
deidre on January 24, 2010 at 2:20 PM
Dear Liar picked Joe Biden.
Palin at least had executive experience. None of the others did.
rbj on January 24, 2010 at 2:20 PM
I’m so sick of this meme that I can barely remain civil. My responses:
- We have empirical evidence of how Palin governed. She governed with a light touch and tended to be bipartisan and centrist.
- Palin had more executive experience than Obama, Biden, and McCain combined. Going from mayor to governor to vice president is a superb career path to the Presidency.
- Looking beyond rhetoric and charisma is one of the fundamentals of rational thought. It’s astounding how many so-called educated people–people who look down their nose at Palin and tea partiers–were swayed by rhetoric and charisma.

She comes up with the convent lie for her stupidity in voting for Obama. “It’s Palin’s fault, waaaaaaaa.” Jill Dorson is a moron and even now she can not admit the truth.

Exactly!

SheofTwoMinds on January 24, 2010 at 2:23 PM
Sorry, not buying this. The outlook for Republicans this November is starting to look good so now the media is trying to clarify the type of Republican that will win over the masses. If we continue to allow the press to pick our candidates we deserve what we get.
Cindy Munford on January 24, 2010 at 2:25 PM
But it doesn’t mean she’ll vote Obama again. And I really do think Republicans will choose the right candidate.
I personally like John Thune. I know he’s not perfect, but he’s pretty darn solid.
I really wish David Petreaus would run. After Obama, this country will need a person in the WH with brass balls.
Only problem is he has no political experience. Still though, one can dream.
nickj116 on January 24, 2010 at 2:27 PM
Same here. It seems the plan is to keep saying that Sarah is dumb until everyone believes it. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people content to let others tell them whom it’s cool to like.
SheofTwoMinds on January 24, 2010 at 2:27 PM
I understand that but for me at least it isn’t even about Palin that much, she was just used as a scapegoat here. It is about this intellectual midget refusing to admit she didn’t do her homework when it came to voting for President and caught up in the hype. This type of person will vote for Obama all over again in 2012 so I don’t like hearing this ill rationalized “regret” crap because they will be just as easy the second time around.
I bet this woman also accused Bill Clinton of being racist after he used the “fairy tale” line and piled on Hillary in her rabid defense of the One. She probably cried alongside Oprah and rapped with Jay-Z about her President is black.
Daemonocracy on January 24, 2010 at 2:28 PM
Why I regret reading this article: anyone who was afraid to elect McCaine because Palin might become president, but wasn’t afraid to vote for Obama wasn’t worth my time.
