Why I regret voting for Obama
Before John McCain unwittingly picked a tabloid-magazine cover girl for his running mate, I was leaning toward going Republican this time around. I did the second time Bush was on the ballot and I very nearly did the first time, too. But as soon as Palin climbed out of her igloo and onto the national scene, well, there was no turning back for me.
You see, I felt my choice was to risk McCain dropping dead and letting the world’s most well-known hockey mom run this country, or to believe that Obama would surround himself with educated people and that he was smart enough to take their advice.
I was right. He is smart enough to seek counsel. I’m just outraged at the counsel he’s seeking these days. Key financial leaders who are tax cheats come immediately to mind, but as the recent terror attack made clear to me, the idea that a president of the most powerful nation in the world could think it was OK to have a Homeland Security chief with such a loose grasp of what terrorism is and how it works is troubling.

As one who voted for Carter – twice – I’m very aware that “enlightenment” is a process”.
However, I see no evidence of any “enlightenment” in her comments. She has not moved from the “dark side” into the “light”. She’s just been forced to face the fact that, as evidenced by his own actions and lies, Obama is a miserably inept and un-qualified president who should never have been elected.
Other than that, nothing for her has changed. In future elections her vote will be based on nothing more than her “feelings” and shallow, self-centered intellect.
Rod on January 24, 2010 at 4:30 PM
I thoroughly enjoyed reading the comments about her piece. The people there utterly destroy her!
Babino on January 24, 2010 at 4:47 PM
I want a president who inspires me and cares about my contribution to the fabric of the country
It’s all about her. Don’t be surprised to see her change her mind again when the democrats find someone else with charisma who “cares about her contribution.” Forget her, she’s a will-o-the-wisp.
I could understand it if she said something like “I was unaware of the issues and I wasn’t paying attention. Now I’ve educated myself about the issues and I’m wiser on how small businesses are impacted by government”, but that’s not at all what she’s saying.
She’s also completely unaware of Palin’s experience as a small businesswoman, a governor dealing with big businesses, etc. Which is not to say I blame her for having issues with the selection of Palin as VP candidate. It’s just her heavy emphasis on Palin that bothers me.
chris999 on January 24, 2010 at 4:53 PM
There’s a huge difference, in that Obama richly deserves said bashing. Palin does not, even if you disagree with her ideologically and even if you think she could have made some different choices since the VP tapping. She has been eviscerated by the press and by the left for much less cause than the recent fledgling Obama criticisms. If someone were to say that Obama crawled out of his hut on the Serengeti to appear on the national political scene, it’d justifiably be roundly criticized as offensive. The igloo comment is no less so, but for some reason it’s okay if it’s about Palin.
Bob's Kid on January 24, 2010 at 4:53 PM
Hmmm. Most of the venom against Jill in the comments there seems to be cause of she doesn’t like cute-as-a-button former half-term governor Sarah Palin.
This sort of venom will be very attractive in the context of a presidential campaign I think. Independents in particular will find it immensely charming.
happyfeet on January 24, 2010 at 4:54 PM
So explain please why you voted for O in the first place, then?
Nope. Don’t buy it either. A self-serving article which glorifies her own epiphany and just uses the Obama sucks meme in order to puff herself off and throw more darts at Palin. Lame attempt. Don’t believe you.
Ozwitch on January 24, 2010 at 4:59 PM
Gimme a break.
And in college, as she was walking herself home from the fraternity house at 6 am, she thought, “But he said he loved me.”
BuckeyeSam on January 24, 2010 at 5:04 PM
It’s not helpful how Team R has so much contempt for people who are open to voting for anyone other than the obnoxious Sarah Palin.
Because contempt for Sarah Palin, particularly among young people, is a truly amazing phenomenon. Unprecedented.
happyfeet on January 24, 2010 at 5:04 PM
It’s like young people instinctively hate her.
happyfeet on January 24, 2010 at 5:05 PM
What is the post count per hour by a single commenter required to establish a meme?
daesleeper on January 24, 2010 at 5:08 PM
nine?
happyfeet on January 24, 2010 at 5:09 PM
A person so easily fooled by Obama-chan was also fooled by Tina Fey, et al. How surprising.
VerbumSap on January 24, 2010 at 5:14 PM
Come on, happyfeet and the rest of you, she’s very catty about Palin, and you know it.
McCain picked a “tabloid-magazine cover girl”. He nominated “the world’s best hocky mom.” She “climbed out of her igloo”. And finally, But between picking Palin, suggesting that the first debates be delayed and, well, picking Palin, he made it easy for Obama to win.
You see what I mean? She would be justified in saying “I was uncomfortable with Palin as VP running with an old guy”, but she didn’t leave it at that.
Her whole approach to Palin detracts from her credibility.
chris999 on January 24, 2010 at 5:15 PM
Careful about projection. I say that as a non-Palinista. I do not support her for president in 2010.
chris999 on January 24, 2010 at 5:18 PM
That’s the real world, chris. People really feel that way about Palin. Here in LA just go ask someone what they think of her. They have even more contempt for Sarah than they had for Bush.
What this woman is saying is very much representative of many people who could potentially vote against Barack Obama.
But Sarah Palin is toxic to any efforts to reach these people. And the more Sarah is celebrated, the more challenging it becomes, and God help our little country if she gets the nomination in 2012.
happyfeet on January 24, 2010 at 5:19 PM
Have you reached nine yet?
daesleeper on January 24, 2010 at 5:20 PM
Feel the hate.
Count to 10 on January 24, 2010 at 5:21 PM
yes Mr. daesleeper I am done thank you for letting me make my comments
happyfeet on January 24, 2010 at 5:22 PM
Interesting, blaming Palin for not being able to vote for McCain. See, that way it’s not really her fault for not picking the right guy; Saaaaaaarah Paaaaaalin made it impossible, you see, and her own guilt is thereby absolved. (At the same time she takes a jab at Palin – two for the price of one!)
I predict this meme will pick up more & more if Obama’s administration continues to worsen and more of these fair-weather I-told-you-so’s begin to express their alleged second thoughts.

Looks like we have a new zombie-troll. Anyone heard hide or hair from this clown before this afternoon? How long has his/her account been dormant (has to be at least since the last registration, no)?

That’s interesting. You live in a different milieu than I do. What is your opinion about Palin? Not others, yours? I’m curious.

And she still had more experience than the current soon-to-be one-term Prez…

I used to like her chris and defended her until she quit cause I thought that was sketch. And then she scurried through the media/politics revolving door and I thought that showed poor character. Then she decided to campaign for John McCain and now I hate her stupid face. And I rethought her.
Now I really believe she’s a noxious presence in American politics and could very well ensure a second term for the little president man.
happyfeet on January 24, 2010 at 5:36 PM
Oh hell, she’ll be voting for Obama again. People like the writer are bandwagon riders. Right now it’s not all that cool to say you voted for Obama and don’t regret it.

Dorson: You voted for Obama because you are an idiot. You will always be an idiot. The chances of you becoming less an idiot are zero to none.
Blake on January 24, 2010 at 7:42 PM
Nice article by Moe Lane.
Blake on January 24, 2010 at 7:49 PM
This article was a clever and artful piece of crap and purported to be a tirade against Obama’s leadership and agenda but in reality a major hit piece against Sarah Palin.
Supposedly a sympathetic figure, in actuality Ms. Dorson is actually a fraud. She is either a Romney supporter or on Obama’s payroll. In either case she has a vested interest to see Palin’s presidential aspirations go down the tube.
Again folks this piece is not about Obama. He is only a subplot and filler. Palin is the target and only target of this piece of garbage.
technopeasant on January 24, 2010 at 8:03 PM

Agreed. Reminded me of a favorite movie quote of mine:
He’s an idiot. Comes from upbringing. His parents are probably idiots too.
