Surprise: Medicare more likely to deny insurance claims than private insurers
According to the American Medical Association’s National Health Insurer Report Card for 2008, the government’s health plan, Medicare, denied medical claims at nearly double the average for private insurers: Medicare denied 6.85% of claims. The highest private insurance denier was Aetna @ 6.8%, followed by Anthem Blue Cross @ 3.44, with an average denial rate of medical claims by private insurers of 3.88%
In its 2009 National Health Insurer Report Card, the AMA reports that Medicare denied only 4% of claims—a big improvement, but outpaced better still by the private insurers. The prior year’s high private denier, Aetna, reduced denials to 1.81%—an astounding 75% improvement—with similar declines by all other private insurers, to average only 2.79%.

Anyone who works with Medicare could tell you this. The feds are anal when it comes to having a “clean claim”. Their reimbursement is for dog poop. And coorinating benefits, COB, really rips off healthcare providers.
What other industry demands years of college, internship, review boards, etc., so that one can get reimbursed about 40% of what he charges? Name one.

First and last I will hear of this.
What the MSM needs, obviously, is more Palin fact checkers!

There are a lot of things Medicare does not pay for it, just ask the people who are on it..that is why they have those high dollar supplemental plans.

Great, now if only supporters of single-payer systems cared anything about facts we might be able to make some traction in getting them to withdraw their support for single-payer. Oh, wait, these people care as much about facts as Tiger Woods cares about keeping his marriage vows.

Among too many problems, doctors are going to payment in cash from patients or go get another doctor.

That’s only a surprise to people who don’t pay attention.
But I’ll bet even money that 90% of our lefties had no idea.

Yes, you can always trust what the National Socialist Democrats tell you. /sarc

Yeah, and when you look at the cost of one claim, the paperwork is ridiculous. In rehab care, there are REAMS of paperwork generated for one single event. Hundreds of pages and man hours.

Having dealt with Medicare, this surprises me . . . not at all.

When we had my grandmother convalescing at home after her fall (having used up her allotted time in the rehab’s Medicare bed), the home health nurse used to spend about 20 minutes of her time here checking out my grandmother and then another 30 minutes or so filling out all kinds of paperwork to submit for Medicare. Ridiculous.

Why isn’t this on the front page being commented on by Allahpundit or Ed!!!!!
