CNN
Sample for CNN poll showing big Obama boost: 45% Dem, 18% GOP
About one in seven people who watched the speech changed their minds on Obama’s health care plan. “Going into the speech, a bare majority of his audience — 53 percent — favored his proposals. Immediately after the speech, that figure rose to 67 percent,” says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. “But the real question is whether those conversions will last. Bill Clinton got similar numbers after his 1993 address to Congress, but five months later a majority of the country no longer supported his plan.”

It takes a little time for people to discover the difference between the plan he talks about, and the actual bill. I’m always impressed right after the ShamWow commercial but quickly I remember I shouldn’t trust the pitchman.

No, you can’t.
MikeA on September 10, 2009 at 10:20 AM
He shaved three negative points off his Approval Rating Index. From -11 yesterday to -8 today.
That is not very good news for him. He needed a lot more.
That was his best shot last night – it wasn’t good enough.
HondaV65 on September 10, 2009 at 10:21 AM
Damn, that’s good. We need to make that image virul.
MikeA on September 10, 2009 at 10:21 AM
Exactly my first thoughts. Why would anyones mind be changed just because the hag of ideological rhetoric had some lipstick put on it?
We’re screwed if people don’t start to cultivate rational thought.
Itchee Dryback on September 10, 2009 at 10:24 AM
I declare horse crap! I don’t buy it. That speech was a joke. A simple joke.
Oink on September 10, 2009 at 10:27 AM
Ogabe’s “daily tracking poll”….
using perverse reverse logic maybe his speech did work and the markets are reacting accorddingly.

PLEASE PROUDRINO READ THIS!!!!!
Forget the sample size, let’s focus on their statement.
CNN exit polls on election day showed 7% more democrats in the electorate; Now CNN says there are 10% more democrats in the electorate.
So there are 3% more democrats NOW, after all the fiascos, than in November, when LightWorker won with a clean slate?
3 MILLION PEOPLE DECIDED TO BECOME DEMOCRATS AFTER THE COP-GATE —- That weren’t already democrats?
Answer me this, ProudRino, what would one of those people look like? Describe them to me. Who would NOT be a dem in november, but IS a dem now? Who are these 3 million people? Men? women? what???
battleoflepanto1571 on September 10, 2009 at 10:29 AM
Bull dip poll. Its a fake.
dogsoldier on September 10, 2009 at 10:30 AM
People listened, and best they could they understood that health care needs reform…what else is new?
But when they get to specifics…illegal immigrants, medicare cuts, public option, union get a free ride, no tort reform, can’t sell across state lines etc…people rebel.
So in general people support reform…but specifically they reject the dem approach.
The pole fits what has been happening the past several weeks…they like Obama, but they can’t stand his bill.
right2bright on September 10, 2009 at 10:35 AM
Well, actually the sample size is probably too small – if you wanted to criticize, criticize based on that.
As to the “electorate,” maybe Republicans vote in higher percentages than Democrats do? Since they’re older and more affluent, generally speaking, and older and more affluent people turn out to the polls in higher percentages?
So you might have only had a 7% advantage in Democrats actually at the polls, but you might have 10% of “the electorate” self-identifying as Democrats. I don’t know.
Look, the poll might be BS, 427 seems to small for a good sample size, and it’s likely that mostly Democrats watched the speech anyway. I just take issue with the argument that it’s BS because it’s CNN and people here don’t like the results.
Proud Rino on September 10, 2009 at 10:37 AM
What coverage? If it makes it onto the air at all, it will be spun as after-party revelry from National Forgive-a-Terrorist Friday.
Has any MSM outlet mentioned 9/12 at all? Anyone? Bueller?
drunyan8315 on September 10, 2009 at 10:41 AM
I don’t buy it. Pravda would have more believable numbers.
nyx on September 10, 2009 at 10:41 AM
Amazing! CNN actually included 18% sample of Heretics.
Aristotle on September 10, 2009 at 10:42 AM
1. Did you see the sample? 45% Dem, 18% GOP? You couldnt even get that skewed randomly by phoning people in San Francisco.
2. “republicans vote in higher percentages”. Maybe usually, but not in 2008. Young, liberals, and blacks were ubermotivated; conservatives not so much. IN fact the final vote totals were supposed to shatter 130 million (pre-absentee ballots); they didnt even come close. Even George steffie on ABC said “the fact is democrats came out to vote, republicans didnt” Is Steph lying?
3. Therefore, again, please tell me what kind of person was NOT a democrat in november but IS a democrat now? No liberal on hotair (or rino) will answer me. describe that person to me. apparently 3 million ‘new’ democrats exist (above and beyond 18 year olds, we’re takling ‘switchers’), so i’m just curious what that type of dem looks like. its like the guy who was NOT a fan of the patriots when they were winning super bowls but NOW is a fan of them when they’re going 9-7. Who are these people?
battleoflepanto1571 on September 10, 2009 at 10:44 AM
Seems like just a temporary boost from here.

So, it is just “sour grapes” to complain about this CNN headline:
CNN Poll: Double-digit post-speech jump for Obama plan
…leading off a story about a poll of less than 500 self-selected people that was skewed 45-18 Democrat?
drunyan8315 on September 10, 2009 at 10:52 AM
I think 45/18 is not enough of a split… they’re going to have to start skewing it 58/2 to keep his numbers high soon.

We’ll know how things are in a few days. There will be some good polls out by then.

The only poll that matters is the one that shows the results I would like to see.
YYZ on September 10, 2009 at 11:06 AM
if you’re a dem, CNN’s sample of the Upper West Side of Manhattan in this poll will make you happy then

DESPERATE!!!!!!!
moonbatkiller on September 10, 2009 at 11:17 AM
OK, so this is just a poll regarding people who watched the speech. Who’s more likely to watch the speech? People who like him or people who don’t like him?
Of course it’s going to be a predominantly liberal crowd. That’s not really news, is it?
Proud Rino on September 10, 2009 at 11:20 AM
So CNN is caught oversampling their poll. What else is new?
smfoushee on September 10, 2009 at 11:26 AM
I’m telling you, people are so angry at the lying media’s threat to our republic that the the propaganda arm of Obama better start thinking about security. People are pissed at these liars. I’m all for loudly calling people out when you see them. Shops, stores, gas stations, walking down the street, WHEREVER. We need to speak our minds to these fools whenever given the opportunity.
marklmail on September 10, 2009 at 11:36 AM
So how many people is that total? Eight? Eleven? I mean, really, outside of hardcore political junkies/wonks and die-hard O lovers, who the heck watched this overexposed megalomaniac give yet another speech?
exlibris on September 10, 2009 at 11:38 AM
Proud Rino:
What everyone is failing to realize is that this is a poll geared towards the effectiveness of Obama’s speech toward viewers of the speech. Like you said, of course it’s going to be a predominantly liberal crowd. Right now Obama is taking it from both sides so this speech was geared towards garnering support primarily from his own base. Right now as a person who works from a statistics background it makes me want to scream when I see people failing to realize the intent of polls and exploiting them to fit their own ethos.
weilbourbaki on September 10, 2009 at 11:45 AM
I presume you mean the Rasmussen Daily Tracking. That’s a 3-day moving average and is trending up anyway. He’ll probably bump it to -5 or -6 percent and then start to recede back to -9 to -11 percent, his recent territory.
Also, remember that the people polled were the people who watched the speech. The over-arching story here is Obama-fatigue. This clown thinks he can flap his gums and get results but he is becoming beyond tedious with the American public, particularly with the edgy, surly, partisan message he was spewing out last night.
Let him try another speech during football season and see what happens when he lays another “Heidi Game” on the good citizens of this land.
VoyskaPVO on September 10, 2009 at 11:47 AM
OMG. If he want’s a crisis, that’ll do it. Don’t mess with our football, you anti-American freak. LOL
marklmail on September 10, 2009 at 11:54 AM
Re numbers, probably couldn’t find more republicans because they weren’t watching the One. I haven’t seen anything on the ratings for his speech. Does anyone know?

Dammit, Joe Wilson!

Ratings in, FOX won. No surprize there. Less watched then previous speeches. Looks like people turning him off.
conservativegrandma on September 10, 2009 at 12:44 PM
CNN’s viewers are 2/3 Democrat. If you have followed their polls for the past few years, you’ll see almost every one end up the same way.
