Joe the Plumber: I wouldn’t have gays near my kids
In the last month, same-sex marriage has become legal in Iowa and Vermont. What do you think about same-sex marriage at a state level?
At a state level, it’s up to them. I don’t want it to be a federal thing. I personally still think it’s wrong. People don’t understand the dictionary—it’s called queer. Queer means strange and unusual. It’s not like a slur, like you would call a white person a honky or something like that. You know, God is pretty explicit in what we’re supposed to do—what man and woman are for. Now, at the same time, we’re supposed to love everybody and accept people, and preach against the sins. I’ve had some friends that are actually homosexual. And, I mean, they know where I stand, and they know that I wouldn’t have them anywhere near my children. But at the same time, they’re people, and they’re going to do their thing.

Tough one.
If I had children, I would really want my kids around any adults unless they were teachers or family.

Oy vey…

Hey — I don’t like the idea of sleeping with another man, but HEY — I have a hard time thinking they will eat my children or something.
Folsom gays are a different story, but I doubt your average, hard working homoman would go and OOOOGIE BOOGIE YOUR CHILLD!!!!
BAAAAH! IM GAAAAAAAY IF I TOUCH YOU, OR BREATHE ON YOU, YOU WILL BE GAY TOO!
blatantblue on May 4, 2009 at 10:17 PM
That’s fine! I suspect most gay folks would not want Joe The plumber around their-adopted-children either. So this all seems fair!
sdavis0830 on May 4, 2009 at 10:18 PM
did it ever cross anyone’s mind he might have meant b/c he did not want the gays to tell his kids it was natural or ok to be gay; maybe he was not stating that gays are pedophiles, which they are not. duh
Ris4victory on May 4, 2009 at 10:18 PM
Im pretty sure thats one of those generational sentiments that’ll pass rather quickly. Think about it, will our grandchildren be saying that when they have kids? That they wouldn’t let any queers near them? Doubt it.
ernesto on May 4, 2009 at 10:18 PM
And the GOP implosion continues. Maybe you can get the 14-year old prodigy to clean up Joe’s mess. That is if mommy will let a gay person near him.
jonknee on May 4, 2009 at 10:18 PM
Miss CA and now “Joe”. One step forward and two steps back! Good ole “Joe”, he’s always hanging around just when it gets a little easier for the GOP. I bet the DNC is funding him to give as many interviews as possible!

Did you know every gay man sits in this type of van outside of playgrounds?

I’m sure Allahpundit blasted some lukewarm green tea through his nose whilst clicking ‘submit’ Go walk the cats, brew some fresh hot tea, then come back to survey the damage. Must be more satisfying than playing a real time strategy game. LOL.

As if parenting ever meant “explain everything to your children.”
“Daddy, why are those men kissing?”
“I have no idea…don’t stare its not polite.”
ernesto on May 4, 2009 at 10:21 PM
Joe’s got the federalism issue correct (better than many pols on the right and all liberals), and he has every right to say what sort of environment his kids grow up in. I can’t see any problem with that.

Think how fun it would be to take your kids to Frisco; explaining two men kissing would the least of the difficult questions you would need to answer.

Wow. Allah or somebody pulled the Interesting Creature headline. WUWT?

Yeah, what happened?
Blake on May 4, 2009 at 10:29 PM
To the race-hustlers, everything rings of that. Screw ‘em.
Parents have the right (and bear the responsibility) for raising their own kids.
If people want to see where liberals would take this country with children, take a look at how kids used to be raised on Israeli kibbutzim. It was so insane that even the most brain-dead leftists stopped it – as the unnatural infringement by the left on the parent-child relationship had finally jumped the shark and offended everyone’s sensibilities.
Yeah .. the coming Orwellian hate-crime legislation will put an end to parents deciding what their kids should or shouldn’t know about homosexuality, or anything else.
progressoverpeace on May 4, 2009 at 10:29 PM
OT:
Did we lose a Megs McCain advice column headline just now? It was linked, now it’s gone…

Wasn’t there a headline after The Onion link and before this one? I hope HotAir didn’t just go memory hole on us.
BadgerHawk on May 4, 2009 at 10:31 PM
Oh, please! The Catholic Church has no problem with nonpracticing homosexuals. Consequently, they packed the priesthood. I forgot the name of the seminary outside Chicago but it was gay orgies all the time. And then they ended up with the kid sex scandals.
Blake on May 4, 2009 at 10:31 PM
my kids have openly gay friends and so do I; it is quite inevitable without becoming a hermit – we all know where we stand (gay and straight) but we still get along and interact and have a blast. My one most flaming gay friend is more conservative fiscally and socially than I am, which is really wild. Do i think it is right to practice homosexuality? NO. Will i openly berate my gay friends or try to “convert” them? NEVER. They know what they are doing, as do I. My kids know right from wrong and thank goodness parental supervision was present when needed to explain this whole quagmire of “but why??” I am a hawk, not perfect, but vigilant to a fault.
Ris4victory on May 4, 2009 at 10:32 PM
Still rings of “those damn nips better stay away from my kids…” it has very little to do with “how the liberals would deal with children” and everything to do with, “wow, way to be petty and overreact to gay people.”
ernesto on May 4, 2009 at 10:32 PM
Elitists will look at his comments and think ill of Joe.
But out here in the real world – we just smile – because Joe is right, and that’s how we feel.
And that’s why we like Joe.
And if Allah ever wants to get out of that DC basement he lives in he can come down here to Louisiana and I’ll take him fishing for Redfish and he can talk to the Cajuns who run the marina I launch from. And then I’ll take him the shooting range on the wildlife preserve – if it’s not flooded, and he can talk to the disabled Korean war vets who range master there – and wear their NRA rangemaster shirts with pride – and after that we’ll go shopping at Walmart – and maybe Lowes.
And then Allah will understand people like Joe – and why we like “Joes” … and Allah won’t be so much of an elitist anymore – he might realize he never really was that “elite” in the first place.
HondaV65 on May 4, 2009 at 10:32 PM
Hey Joe, just tell the kid the one in front is sick and the other one is pushing him to the hospital.
viking01 on May 4, 2009 at 10:32 PM
I find it hilarious how he says he has gay friends, but wont allow them near his children?! What self-respecting person would still be friends with him in that situation?? “Would you like to come to dinner tonight, Fred? Don’t come til after 8pm when Johnny is safe in his bed away from your gayish clutches, though”. “Oh, ok Joe..see ya.” I mean, WHAT?!?!
