Obama to House GOP: I’m not adding any more tax cuts to the stimulus

Obama seemed ready for the House Republicans to pounce, reportedly telling the gathered GOP lawmakers: “feel free to whack me over the head because I probably will not compromise on that part [tax cuts],” according to two sources in the room.

That’s basically what they did, hitting Obama for more than 30 minutes with questions about deficits, taxes and spending. Rep. Kevin Brady (R-Texas), won applause from his GOP colleagues when he asked the president whether he would promise that the stimulus would not be an excuse to raise taxes or increase spending.

Obama responded, according to sources in the room, that he was worried about the deficit and debt, and promised that his fiscal 2010 budget – coming out next month – would make hard choices in terms of spending cuts in an effort to reduce the deficit.

Obama responded, according to sources in the room, that he was worried about the deficit and debt, and promised that his fiscal 2010 budget – coming out next month – would make hard choices in terms of spending cuts in an effort to reduce the deficit.

Here’s a nutty thought- how about not running up a 2 trillion dollar deficit in the first place?

Please let them have to pass this craptacular piece of thievery, if they insist on doing so, without a single GOP vote. I am quite sure there are also at least a handful of Blue Dog Dems who will also vote against it, as they did with the TARP nightmare.

Politico is basiclly a Dem site. This will be spun as the GOP being obstinate, and not willing to “negotiate” with Obama or be “bipartisan.”

And the MSM will pick it up, just as they picked up Nancy’s lie that the GOP had chances a change to discuss changes with her.

I believe the headline for this story is incorrect. Nowhere in this Politico story does Obama say he won’t accept any tax cuts. What Obama says is that he will not change his devotion to rebates to non-taxpayers. That is what is meant by “that part”.

This is what the story says:

Refundable tax credits is not an across the board synonym for tax cuts.
