The Nakamura family told police they had been teaching the bird its name and address for about two years.
That was an incredibly resourceful and smart thing to do.
My parrot story: Friends of mine returned from a weekend out of town to find their front door had been broken in. When the police arrived, they found out that it was the police who had done it! See, they had a parrot who kept yelling “HELP!” and a neighbor got terribly concerned and called it in!

Yeah, but he’s failed to file his tax returns for the past 6 years.
Not as smart as one thinks, I say.

A parrot escaped in my neighborhood when I was a teenager. It took up residence in a tree near our house, where no one seemed to be able to catch it for months. The darned thing only knew how to cry and wail like a terrified toddler. EXACTLY like a terrified toddler. An extremely loud one. I still have nightmares (shudder).
