Graham argued that the House bill was “written for liberals, by liberals.
“Just look at how it passed; it passed 220 to 215. It passed by two votes. You had [39] Democrats vote against the bill,” Graham told “Face the Nation” host Bob Schieffer Sunday.
He also admitted that if it were to come down to it, he would join his independent colleague Senator Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., in filibustering a bill including the so-called public option should it come to the Senate floor.
“The House bill is a non-starter in the Senate,” he added.

Some how Lindsey does not give me much comfort…
d1carter on November 8, 2009 at 12:53 PM
“… but since it covers illegal aliens, I’m still voting for it.”
SagebrushPuppet on November 8, 2009 at 12:55 PM
Lindsey Graham has no backbone, I expect full retreat in a few days.
Enoxo on November 8, 2009 at 12:55 PM
Yeah yeah yeah… that’s what your party said about PelosiCare in the house.
Shut up and MAKE IT HAPPEN.
Why in God’s name this unconstitutional piece of drek is even coming up for a vote and we have to “stop” it is beyond me.
Say Graham, why don’t you just have the GOP offer a counter plan that expands medicare to cover anybody who wants it. I’ll take that loss to protect my liberties.
Skywise on November 8, 2009 at 12:55 PM
Because Lindsey has a spine?
I bet he folds if they call the public option something else.
Isn’t this talk from one of the RINOs that is starting to warm up to crap and tax because it may have some nuclear energy provisions in it?
aikidoka on November 8, 2009 at 12:56 PM
Of course it is.
What is on the table in the Senate, however, will still destroy american healthcare.
Revenant on November 8, 2009 at 12:56 PM
Well some are speculating that Reid may dump his bill and just send Pelosi’s to the Senate floor in order to save a lot of time in conference later.
Grahamnesty is correct in stating that that is a “non-starter”. No way the Senate will swallow the Pelosi bill.
So Reid has to do this the hard way. The good news is – this is sucking a lot of time out of his campaign schedule and … he REALLY NEEDS to campaign with the approval ratings he has currently.
I think it’s funny how so many seem willing to walk the plank for Obama. Obama is like the Pied Piper – marching these little kids to their doom.
It’s kind of nice actually and I have to think positive thoughts of Obama for doing us this service!
HondaV65 on November 8, 2009 at 12:57 PM
Sen. Graham ’standing strong” doesn’t fill me with optimism.
Cindy Munford on November 8, 2009 at 12:58 PM
Blah, blah, blah. Lets put a republican senator up there who we can beleive.
csdeven on November 8, 2009 at 12:58 PM
I’ve sent my Senators an e-mail today. Don’t think it will do much. I don’t trust any of them. There is Zero trust.
Brat4life on November 8, 2009 at 1:01 PM
Dream on, Buckaroo. Graham and the rest of the gutless RINOs have a perfect “out” in the statement that the Pelosi totalitarian-takeover bill won’t fly in the Senate. They’ll just wait for the Reid bill — which will have all the ugly, destructive features of the House version — and vote for that because it includes lots of porky payoff amendments.
Don’t go all Ed Morrissey on us here. This is not a game. this is the Real Thing, and a clear and present danger to the nation.
MrScribbler on November 8, 2009 at 1:02 PM
Let the mighty “true conservatives” work hard to defeat Graham next time because you know “we win by losing.”
You and your leader Glenn Beck is responsible for this monstrosity.
rightistliberal on November 8, 2009 at 1:02 PM
Well, look at it this way, if even Lindsey Graham opposes it, there’s no way that typical democrats will vote for it.
RINO in Name Only on November 8, 2009 at 1:03 PM
Is there anyone in the Senate who is not gutless except De Mint. Maybe, they will give 100 votes, you braindead monkey.
rightistliberal on November 8, 2009 at 1:04 PM
Kind of hard for a guy who has a Slinky© for a spine.
CWforFreedom on November 8, 2009 at 1:05 PM
Graham is right, Obamacare will not pass in the senate. He is hoping to get it off of the table so that he can go to work on amnesty for illegals.
farright on November 8, 2009 at 1:06 PM
Oh dear God…help me…Sweet Jesus make it go away. Hes about to be on TV again…that that yabbering hear..the pompous smirk…the Mussolini-esque up tipped nose…..GAAAA!!
Itchee Dryback on November 8, 2009 at 1:06 PM
What does Graham want? A bi-partisan yet moderately statist bill with the same ends?
Of the numerous paths to full-on socialism, Graham and his ilk will help find a bi-partisan way to get there. All in the name of “reform”.
nottakingsides on November 8, 2009 at 1:07 PM
Like I’ve said; ObamaCare is dead.
There’s no way in hell a public option will pass the Senate.
Norwegian on November 8, 2009 at 1:07 PM

splink on November 8, 2009 at 1:08 PM
backwards quoting, cool.
splink on November 8, 2009 at 1:08 PM
Why do you keep saying that? Is that a real quote from somebody, or did you imagine it?
splink on November 8, 2009 at 1:09 PM
Scrib … I’m not turning into Ed here at all. I just felt it and the sack is still hanging low.
But you have to look at everything we have going for us right now – and it’s pretty good. And there’s virtually nothing the Democrats can do to turn this situation around and everything they can do to make it worse for them.
In the end – they can’t the public option they want. What they’ll end up with (maybe) is something watered down that doesn’t happen until 2015 – but the taxes and fees kick in immediately. That’s a kiss of death for them – American’s paying taxes for no return during a time of severe economic stress.
The GOP can run on a repeal platform – and we can repeal the whole shooting match before it starts in 2015.
Also – the RINO’s are on their way out the door – Conservatives are starting to retake the party and even the Ayatollah’s realize that now.
I’m just OPTIMISTIC because every time I look at a fact – it’s positive for us.
Don’t fall into the ostrich trap of the MSM with it’s head buried in the sand. Look at what’s going on – there’s a tidal wave coming. I’m no longer looking towards just kicking the Socialists out of power – I’m looking toward destroying their political viability for a generation. I think we have a shot at doing it.
Grahamnesty sucks – no doubt – we agree on that. But his days in office are numbered.

Sorry Lindsey, once you jump the shark that’s it. Just ask Henry Winkler.
Sharke on November 8, 2009 at 1:13 PM
Duh.
Graham may be wishy washy but he isn’t suicidal. Even the RINO sisters won’t go for the House bill.
Rocks on November 8, 2009 at 1:15 PM
He’s painful isn’t he. I’d rather watch Richard Simmons open his heart to Oprah than 30 seconds of that nauseating pr*ck.
Sharke on November 8, 2009 at 1:19 PM
You keep saying that in a sarcastic manner as if it’s an iron law or something. It’s not a digital concept dude.
Very often – you have to lose a battle or two in order to win the war.
The founders didn’t immediately default to revolution. They first attempted peaceful resolution of grievances with the English crown. Had they succeeded in that – we may very well be English subjects to this day – or some part of the British Commonwealth like Canada. But … THEY LOST in their efforts at peaceful resolve – and that enabled them to proceed to revolution – where they gave birth to the greatest nation on earth.
The Army of the Potomac lost battle after battle to Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia – and this success emboldened Lee to invade the north – where he was defeated by the Union at Gettysburg. This was the high water of the Confederacy and the Confederates knew it – it was all down hill for them after that.
You can lose a battle and win the war.
HondaV65 on November 8, 2009 at 1:20 PM
Yeah I just flipped him off… (both ways) I can tell you what he said without listening.
“I won”.
Skywise on November 8, 2009 at 1:23 PM
You’re right that we agree on the basics. The difference is a matter of your optimism and my pessimism, the latter fueled by too many failures of even so-called “conservatives” to stand tall for principles. Listening to the pro-”health care” citizens calling in to C-Span during the votes last night didn’t help either.
(And no, I’d never include Graham on the list of “conservatives.” I may be a “brain-dead monkey,” but I’m not that stupid….)
My major concern is that our forces (the “tidal wave” you refer to) will end up like the Polish Army in 1939: brave, but short of serious weapons and lacking in the ability to be as vicious, contemptuous of civilized rules and inhumane as their opponents.
That said, I hope I’m wrong! Nothing would make me as happy in ‘10 as jumping up and down saying “HondaV65 is right! HondaV65 is right!”
MrScribbler on November 8, 2009 at 1:24 PM
Grahamnesty standing strong? HA! HA! HA! I’ll pay to see that.
RMR on November 8, 2009 at 1:26 PM
If you are referring to NY-23, it is totally irrelevant, unless you think that the possibility of having 2 Republican “YES” votes on this piece of crap would be a good thing.
neuquenguy on November 8, 2009 at 1:27 PM
I remember Graham was not thrilled about the Sotomajor nomination yet, ….
We don’t who you are or how much education you may have but please do continue to give us all of your misinformation. A mindset like yours reflects a portion of our society that has the victim mentality and only through increased government entitlements are you to be emboldened with your resgistered demeaner. You fear legitimate competition.
Americannodash on November 8, 2009 at 1:35 PM
Yeah, Graham was acting as if he would have blocked Sotomayor… then remembered his buds in La Raza and stepped aside.
This guy is way too wishy-washy to be taken seriously on the subject. I hope Coburn is committed to filibustering this POS bill (to use a Boehner phrase).
fiatboomer on November 8, 2009 at 1:39 PM
Claire McCaskill: “Don’t you TRUST me?”
Nope. I’m with the poster who trusts no one. Eliminating pre-existing conditions period will assure single payor in the long run.
But it sounds so pleasing, no?
Marcus on November 8, 2009 at 1:49 PM
Graham-nesty is about as believable as Adolf Hitler when he declared I have no further territorial demands on the West.
I’ll believe it when I see it.
J.J. Sefton on November 8, 2009 at 1:50 PM
Being a “non-starter” does not imply that it won’t be the “finisher.”
But my bigger concern is that, once the Senate gets its own monstrosity patched together, the hybrid child of the two monstrosities will be worse than even this House bill is, but will be laden with enough pork and sweeteners to make it through both houses.
In some ways, we would have been better off with a clean socialist single payer plan than what we will end up with, after these buffoons get done.
notropis on November 8, 2009 at 1:55 PM
On top of it all, now I’m agreeing with Lindsey Graham.
…..FML.
Hawkins1701 on November 8, 2009 at 2:05 PM
You suck too, Goober. Get back in the closet.
Percy_Peabody on November 8, 2009 at 2:16 PM
Political Learning lesson here: Dems with huge majorities(and a cheerleading press) can’t pass Full Socialized Medicine.
GOP with majorities, and hostile press, could not do moderate reforms to Social Security.
Lesson: political extremes isn’t a governing philosophy. Abolishing Federal programs won’t happen absent a financial collapse and desperation.

Your lesson from the Dems passing full socialized medicine last night is that the Dems cannot pass full socialized medicine?
neuquenguy on November 8, 2009 at 2:40 PM
Unfortunately, I think the lesson since FDR has been that socialism creeps incrimentally. Hard fought efforts against it will slow down, but not reverse, its advance.
Financial collapse may well be the only way.

If you were actually clever, you would instead use an actual quote we are all familiar with such as “We had to destroy the village in order to save it.”

Lindsey Graham: “PelosiCare is D.O.A. in the Senate.”
I believe we were re-assured the day after that Crap and Tax was also D.O.A. in the Senate.
Lindsey Graham: “‘Green energy’ is coming. Y’all can follow or lead.”
Marcus on November 8, 2009 at 3:17 PM
Grahamnesty is just having an anti-psychotic episode. Don’t worry; it’ll pass.
Feedie on November 8, 2009 at 3:25 PM
It damn well better be. But I have no faith in you Lindsey, sorry.
beachgirlusa on November 8, 2009 at 3:35 PM
Lindsey Graham knows exactly what he’s doing. Trust me. I know from experience.
Sincerely,
Larry Sinclair
honsy on November 8, 2009 at 3:53 PM
It will not make it through Senate, this was Pelosi/Dems giving their idiot base a bone.
as the article suggest, it is DOA. Only way is Incrementally, they need to pass something that gives Govt. more control(but not total) to further cripple the system and setup the eventual full blown Socialized Medicine they want.
as history has shown, political efforts to fully reverse are futile unfortunately.
