But there is a major difference, says Veteran Affairs’ Zeiss, between a therapist being moved by combat horror stories and being traumatized by them — though it can happen. “Psychiatrists are trained to notice their own reactions and emotions, and if there’s something hard to deal with, they should turn to their peers,” she says. But according to some news reports, Hasan’s unprofessional conduct was red-flagged early on; at Walter Reed he was given a poor performance report, but that did not hinder his transfer to Fort Hood.

Hassan was a victim of a high sugar diet, too much McDonald’s food, and was victimized too many times by health insurance companies.
Yeah …. that’s it.

Anyone who cancels an apartment two weeks before, has not snapped.
This had built up over some time, until a trigger set him off. The trigger was probably deployment.

Weirdly, that sounds more plausible than what they are selling.

5 of the soldiers Hasan killed were other counselors who were readying to deploy to Afghanistan to help other soldiers. Hasan did far more damage then just a body count.

The worst terrorist attack on our Nation since 9/11.
Although Obama incorrectly called the Gates issue immediately, and he gave the shout out in favor of the beer summit, he will contemplate his navel until he gets the story straight for the SRM. And Soros.

Lance Murdock on November 8, 2009 at 7:03 PM
All of the MSM will hold on to this narrative for dear life because their Leader Obama will NEVER call it a terrorist act no matter what more comes out about this guy. Even if Hasan himself declares it was a suicide mission for Allah and to earn his 72 virgins it will be swept under the rug for things like the “historic” health care vote, Barry’s dog, Michelle’s arms, Sasha’s grades, etc.
SoxNation on November 8, 2009 at 7:04 PM
Ummmm…yeah….
There are 13 dead and 30-some wounded who matter in this story, as Slime magazine conveniently forgets. I looked for links to their stories in this article, and couldn’t find them.
Hasan, a human pig, does not count.
“Partnering” with the Huffington Post? Hell, the only difference I see is that Time apparently has a print edition. Why that is remains a mystery to me.

Sharke on November 8, 2009 at 7:10 PM
Wow, 2 UK Telegraph links posted on the same minute, kind of reinforces Enoxo’s point doesn’t it?
Sharke on November 8, 2009 at 7:13 PM
Boy, they’re really trying to spin it into a contagious thing for this guy. Let’s see, he got to Ft. Hood in April/May, probably spent the better part of a month getting in processed, then began seeing a full load of clinic in June-ish, then went full tilt jihadi five months later.
Nope, sorry, can’t buy that one.
He spoke like a Islamic terrorist, acted like an Islamic terrorist, blogged like an Islamic terrorist, dressed like an Islamic terrorist, hung out at the same mosque as Islamic terrorists, believed in the Koran like Islamic terrorists, and, in his final act, quoted actual Islamic terrorists while murdering Americans. I’m not jumping to conclusions here, but this really does look like a case for contagious PTSD.

I still say we put modern Islam on trial for the world to see.
Then contrast it against Modern Buddhism, Christianity, and Judaism just to rub these people’s noses in it.
Islam goes against what our country was founded on and should be stricken once and for all from this great land.
You have the freedom of religion, but when that religion seeks to destroy all our freedoms, that religion becomes an anathema to the principles of this land and should be abolished.

the_nile on November 8, 2009 at 7:29 PM
Shouldn’t decent Americans be experiencing second-hand PTSD because of what happened at Fort Hood, then? I mean, it’s a terrible trauma that will no doubt give some PTSD to the victims, but the rest of us are aware of the events, we sort of lived the event ourselves, and if we are effected by it second-hand, are there some things that we might be led to do because of this “disorder”?
I think you would have to support and agree with the actions the “disorder sufferer” did before you would portray the actions as being the result of some disorder. If the guy had walked into Time magazine headquarters and let loose, I don’t think they’d be trying to construct an excuse for him. I think Time would call that apples and oranges because the people Hasan targeted were on one side and Time is on the other side.
Buddahpundit on November 8, 2009 at 7:37 PM
You don’t have to read the article to know the answer. Time Magazine and this attempt to redeem a mass murdering zealot is beyond disgraceful.
With the aid of Time and their fellow marxist propagandists in the media, academia, and government, in twenty years Hasan will become a folk hero revolutionary like Che Guevara. College students will be wearing t-shirts with Hasan’s image on them in order to display their poseur edgy coolness. Provided America lasts twenty years.
DeathB4Tyranny on November 8, 2009 at 7:40 PM
That’s the unnamed consequence of the “analysis” in articles like this. We can claim to have PTSD over everything, even if it’s not a trauma.
I think I will claim PTSD anytime someone says something mean to me and I punch them in the face…..
Oh wait, no I won’t. Because I’m not a nutter or a proponent of a religion that insists on the spilling of the blood of infidels…..

Whine House , 1200 hrs, today
Hussain : So what do we do tomorrow. Rush will be back and so will Hannity. I don’t know about Beck but I didn’t loose sleep over it since thursday. This Hasan thing is a crisis
Rhambo : Mr Prez, we will not let it go to waste. Even before our lord Soros send them the talking points, the media was on it. In the last 4 days they have convinced the idiots er er people of this country that it was the military’s fault .
Hussain : But what about FOX?
Asslrod : Mr. Prez, Geraldo has not blamed the army yet, nor has Bill0 or Wallace, but they will get there by Monday. They are sticking to their ” nutjob” analysis for now.
I still have some work to do with FOX
Hussain : This should be fixed before tuesday morning. I don’t want to go to Texas with anyone in the media calling it a “terrorist attack”
Rhambo + Asslrod : Yes Mr Prez
Hussain : And what about the Major Doctor Hasan PBUH? He is breathing on his own , right ?
Asslrod + Rhambo : Yes Mr. Prez
Hussain : Michelle and Valerie say that its too early for me to visit the great Doctor . I’d like him to be transferred to a hospital aound DC so I can visit him
Rhambo : I’m on it Mr Prez
Asslrod : Here is the mirror Mr Prez, and I will be personally handle the camcorder. Whenever you are ready Mr. Prez
Hussain : So I have to look sad when I walk out of AF-1 , right? How does this look ( makes a sad face)
Rhambo + Asslrod : purrfect Mr. Prez
Hussain : The sadness stays on my face while shaking hands with people , right. I got it
Asslrod : Mr. Prez can we also practice the salute one more time, its been a few weeks, if you could please brushup on that too
Hussain : What? I’ll have to do that again ?
Rhambo : There will be cameras everywhere Mr. Prez. Afteral you are not that evil Bush who didn’t even allow the media to…
Hussain : Hey hey hey..what do you mean by that, Bush ?
Asslrod : Mr. Prez , Bush and his wife visited with the injured soldiers and their families last week. They didn’t allow any pictures
Hussain: That means there is no proof they went..HAHA..I knew he was stupid
Phone rings, Rhambo answers
Rhambo : Mr Prez , Dunno just called. People in blogs are calling it a terrorist attack, after 8 years America has been attacked by terrorists on its own soil, and some want Hasan to be treated like an enemy combatant
Hussain : Oh com’on, Americasss chickensss..
Rhambo + Asslrod : Oh Nooooooo, not in public mr Prez
Hussain : Ok Ok, now let me practice supressing my giggles, man its hard, but just for one day, I think I’ll manage. I will look so sad on tuesday that the idiots er uh ahm people will think I am really mourning the soldiers..i love my job

There are a hell of a lot of people trying to say this was not about Hasan’s religion, but how can they knkw that. It was about whatever Hasan thought it was about, not what some brass hat or politician thought it was about. And it appears that Hasan thought it was about his religion; ergo….

From your article, Hasan attended the Dar al-Hijrah mosque in Virginia.
Amazing what you can get away with out in the open — even naming your mosque after your politico-military strategy — when political correctness and multicultural utopianism amounts to willful blindness.

Dar al-Hijra translates to the land or abode of immigration (for the purpose of Islamization).

I wished that Hasan would have died as a result of his injuries, until yesterday.
Now, I hope he recovers and gets a highly public trial, and that he gets on the stand to defend himself. In typical jihadi fashion, he would go on and on about the religion of Islam and its tenets, including the obligation of jihad against infidelsl.
That would cut through any more bullshit spin the media trys to play up, and give ignorant Americans some much needed exposure to the religion of peace.
Then fry his azz…

I’m sick of people saying that persecution of Muslims is tolerated in the military. It’s not. The very fact that he remained in the Army and continued to be promoted despite the things he said argues strongly against any accusation that the military tolerates persecution. He was kept around precisely because the military bends over backwards these days to be politically correct.
If this were 1942 and he were a blond-haired, blue-eyed man with a teutonic-sounding name who shouted “Sieg Heil” before gunning down American soldiers, would anyone question his motives? No, but because his actions spring from his religion, we are hesitant to recognize them for what they are.

Loxodonta on November 9, 2009 at 2:15 AM
HondaV65, you may be on to something with respect to Western diets. But according to Stars and Stripes, evidently, Hasan was rather fond of the Golden Corral:
“Major Nidal Malik Hasan had taken 18-year-old Duane Reasoner, Jr., a recent Muslim convert under his wing, mentoring him in his new faith. After evening prayers [Hasan] would often buy a fish dinner for Reasoner and sometimes the iman [Iman Seyed Amed Ali] at the Golden Corral, a chain buffet restaurant.”
ReagansRight on November 9, 2009 at 2:41 AM
Hassan isn’t a radical muslim. He’s mainstream. The radicals are the ones that DONT believe in violent jihad, and who DONT want to impose sharia.
Mohammed was the L Ron Hubbard of his day, inventing a religion with himself as it’s leader to suit his own purposes. In the case of Mohammed, it was to create a religion to cement his military conquests.
wildcat84 on November 9, 2009 at 7:52 AM
Sigh… I love all the HA commenters (even the trolls, because they’re hilarious), and I know a lot of y’all probably already know this, but I would like to clear some things up:
1. Hasan will be brought to justice swiftly and efficiently under the UCMJ. They’re still debating about trying him with treason, but he has 13 murders on his head. The military does not look too kindly upon that.
2. Whatever you may think of lawyers, JAG is a whole new breed. Any military lawyer who gets assigned this case will be doing damage control, but knows that this case is essentially over.
3. This case will be tried by court martial, not in a traditional courtroom.
4. The mode of execution will be firing squad or hanging.
Thank you.
