Other Palin touchstones included: praise for the military, jeers for the “the liberal media” and a general manner of speaking that often veered into rhetorical cul-de-sacs.
While she drew applause during her remarks, Palin’s extemporaneous and frequently discursive style was such that she never truly roused a true-believing crowd as passionate about the issue at hand as she. Not once during her address did they rise to their feet…
In addition to the suggestion that government officials would consider hastening the death of the infirm or handicapped, she began her remarks with a puzzling commentary on the design of newly minted dollar coints.

People lined up a half mile to get in? The event sold out in minutes? I saw she is rolling.

Someone’s lying…I wonder who?
I know for a fact that she got at least 1 standing O.
Jenfidel on November 7, 2009 at 1:47 PM
Did Politico point out Obama’s puzzling “shout out” prior to his puzzlingly cold remakrs about the FT Hood massacre the other day?
ddrintn on November 7, 2009 at 1:48 PM
The byline tells you everything you need to know about the intentions. Jonathan Martin, Politico reporter, former NRO contributor, full-time Romney apparatchik.
Yeesh, he’s like the Pat Caddell of the Republican Left.
KingGold on November 7, 2009 at 1:49 PM
Is it just me, or does that sound like a broadside at the modern feminist movement? She’s running, IMO, and part of her target audience is the “everywoman” vote.
cs89 on November 7, 2009 at 1:49 PM
Wow, can you smell the bias in that line?
Palin = instant attention and scrutiny from the Left. They simply can’t leave her alone, the one they called inept, inaccurate, over her head, out of her league, idiotic, a has-been, a quitter, etc.
If such a person is without clout or unworthy of attenion, why does the Left fear her so? Oh, the answers are so obvious, my friends.

WTF?
someone is lying
Less than two weeks before the release of her memoir “Going Rogue,” former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was on message during a Friday night speech to anti-abortion activists at State Fair Park.
“Let’s simplify, we’re pro children,” Palin told thousands of people who attended a $30-a-ticket fund-raiser for the Wisconsin Right to Life Education Fund.
In a personal and passionate speech, Palin lauded the state’s anti-abortion movement for legislative advances achieved over time.
“We were told to sit down and shut up,” Palin said. “Wisconsin, you went rogue.”
Palin spoke movingly of her youngest son, Trig, who has Down syndrome. She recalled that when she was pregnant, she underwent an ultrasound and the technician told her, “I see boy parts.”
Later, the technician told her that the baby’s neck “is a little bit thicker,” an indication that there might be an extra chromosome. A few days later, Down syndrome was confirmed.
“I was scared,” Palin said, adding that she asked her husband, Todd, “Why us?” He responded, “Why not?”
“My family life is much richer thanks to this beautiful baby boy Trig,” Palin said. “He is awesome.”
The speech marked Palin’s re-emergence on the national scene. The event was emceed by WTMJ-AM radio personality Charlie Sykes. The Journal Sentinel purchased a ticket to cover Palin’s speech.
Security was tight at the Wisconsin Exposition Center. Spectators were told beforehand that prohibited items included cell phones, recording devices, video and still cameras, as well as strollers and car seats. A line stretched across the length of the facility and out to a parking lot as spectators waited patiently to pass through security.
Once they got inside, spectators didn’t have to wait long for what they came for – Palin’s speech. The address began with Palin asking for a moment of silence to remember those killed in Thursday’s shooting rampage at Fort Hood in Texas.
It’s hard to believe, but Palin is still something of a national newcomer, only a few years removed from her stunning rise from relative obscurity in Alaska to the Republican Party’s 2008 vice presidential nomination.
Among the high points of last year’s presidential campaign was the joint appearance Palin and Republican presidential nominee John McCain made in Cedarburg, a day after they accepted their party’s nomination at the party’s convention in Minneapolis.
Palin remains a potent force in national politics even after her abrupt resignation as Alaska’s governor. Her future political plans – including the possibility of a presidential run in 2012 – remain unclear. She has kept in touch with tens of thousands of her admirers through online social networking tools.
She used President Barack Obama’s mantra of change to make her political points.
“Let’s talk about change we can believe in,” Palin said. “Friends, a majority of Americans identify as pro life, and thank God for that.”
She called health care reform a “government takeover” and called on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to at least allow a congressional vote to prohibit federally sponsored health insurance plans to pay for abortions.
“I feel real change is just up ahead,” she said. “Wisconsin, we need to ramp it up.”
She brought the crowd to its feet with a simple closing line: “Don’t let anyone ever tell you to sit down and shut uphttp://www.jsonline.com/news/statepolitics/69442907.html.”

3 cheers for JMart for keeping the Narrative alive!
Oh, is that verb inaccurate? Did they jump to their feet?
Spirit of 1776 on November 7, 2009 at 1:51 PM
Oh, and… she didn’t inspire the passionate crowd, but the line was really long, some asked her if she’s running in 2012 and somebody joked about asking her to marry them.
Yep, pretty apathetic crowd…
cs89 on November 7, 2009 at 1:51 PM
Vague much? I wonder if it is hard to write an article when the actual subject is to diminish the participant as opposed to simply reporting about the event?
Cindy Munford on November 7, 2009 at 1:52 PM
As she stepped to the microphone when the cheering began to die down, the Governor’s first thoughts were on America’s military forces. After asking all of our current military and veterans to stand, she asked for a moment of silence. She told us that during the moment of silence she would be saying a prayer and invited us all to do the same. After the moment of silence for the soldiers currently serving at Fort Hood, she immediately thanked our military personnel for their service to a raucous round of applause and cheers for our military.
The Governor then spoke briefly about her attachment to the state of Wisconsin. I believe she stated that one of her grandfathers was born in Chippewa Falls and her father went to school with Jerry Kramer (a Packer football star in the early 60’s).
Governor Palin then began to tell a story of a conversation she and one of her friends in Alaska had a few weeks ago. Her friend had picked up a couple of the relatively new $1 dollar gold colored coins. They were discussing what was missing off of the front of the coins. Those four little words that have gotten America through her most troubling moments, “In God we trust”. As she observed; those four little words have been pushed off to the side of the coin. No longer prominently displayed on the face of the coin but those words have now been hidden on the outer edge of the coin. As she observed, this is kind of where we, as a Nation, have shoved God in our own lives. She even stated that she had kind of done that with her own pro life movement. Yes, she was always pro-life but it was not really something she prominently displayed until she became pregnant with Trig.
Oh boy, when she talks about Trig, her entire persona just lights up. You can tell this woman is completely in love with that little boy. Governor Palin admitted that she was afraid before Trig was born on how she would handle a little boy with special needs. She also mentioned how she and Todd chose to work through the problems together.
The governor also spoke briefly about Bristol and the choices she had to make and the love and joy that Tripp has brought to their lives. Clearly, Governor Palin is very proud of her daughter and her grandson that is almost a year old. Governor Palin stated that people make mistakes but a beautiful child came as a result of that mistake. A mistake is no reason to take a life.

You know, I’m washing my hands of frauds like Politico. Life’s too short to read spin and lies. It upsets me that the left media is so corrupt, but I can’t do anything about it. So, every time I feel the urge to read that drivel, I’m going to use that time to email/call people and tell them about what’s in the health bill, what obama is doing, and the lies in the Lame Stream Media. I’ve decided to “feed the good wolf”.

Since I was actually there, I could probably give an accurate accounting. In one sentence, the blithering JM spoke about the weighty subject being discussed and then wonders why people were not jumping and chanting like a campaign rally.
What did JM expect at a pro-life fundraiser? Folks standing and cheering “kill the babies!”?
By the way, those of us that support the work and volunteer for Wisconsin Right to Life appreciate the Politico reporters donation of $30 to our cause.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel also donated to our cause and they had quite a different take than Politico.
kcarpenter on November 7, 2009 at 2:05 PM
I bet Politico was much more impressed with the folks who paid $30,000 to hear The Won make fun of half the people he took an oath to serve. But I am pretty sure they believe that conservatives in general and Pro-Life folks specifically are worth little more than scorn.
Cindy Munford on November 7, 2009 at 2:06 PM
Ever since that whole article about Palin and Iowa, I will never listen to what Political says about Palin again.
From all the other accounts I have read today, it sounds as if Palin did a fabulous job.

This is the some of the most biased pieces of garbage reporting under the guise of “news.”
Martin failed to mention that this “abortion-related measure” Obama lobbied for and supported was partial-birth abortion. You know, where a viable, healthy baby is in the birth canal and the doctor punctures the skull killing the baby in order to save the mother from emotional distress or something. Oh yeah, that “abortion-related measure.”
Martin is an elite, smug hack. Extemporaneous? Only when she’s “Off script.” Discursive? Only when she talks about choosing to have a baby with an extra chromosome and uses the word “bogus.”
Except when they stood for nearly five minutes when she came to the stage, right? And then when she was finished, right?
The whole evening was somber, based upon the topic and what was discussed prior to Palin’s speech. Pro-life proponents view this topic as people–babies–the defenseless being tossed away as a choice. That was the mood of the entire evening. It wasn’t a political rally; something Martin, the hack, couldn’t discern.
People left to beat the traffic you idiot. We were one of those that left early, because I had four kids with me, and it still took us 15 minutes to get out of the parking lot.
conservative pilgrim on November 7, 2009 at 2:44 PM
Funny how his accounting differs so greatly from alllllll the others that have been posted on the net today. Didn’t we already establish Martin is an out and out lying hack last week when he posted that B.S. about Palin demanding $$$ to speak at the Iowa event. He has less than zero credibility.
BTW, what is the big deal using vernacular like bogus and awesome? She’s Gen X through and through. To her — and to me — this is called speaking colloquially, extemporaneously. Whenever the sainted Obama tries this, he ends up mangling his point if he doesn’t put his audience to sleep first with all the “ahh”s, “uhm”s and liberal dose of pregnant pauses.

Jim, it’s comment #167 and good catch.
It reminds me of when Politico sent Roger Simon to cover Fred Thompson at a fire station in Iowa. Simon said that Thompson had flubbed the event and looked awkward. Then the video turned up and it was exactly the opposite.
You can’t trust Politico.

Did she showcase her knowlege of the Austrian languange while pontificating about how breathalizer machines are for kids with asthma? It’s too bad she didn’t bring her teleprompeter and graduate from an Ivy League school. Then we could count on her to run the country as well as it is being run now.

Jonathan Martin defense?
“Not once during her address did they rise to their feet…”
“I am perfectly accurate because the audience did not rise to their feet during her address. The fact that she received a 5 minute standing ovation before she spoke and a standing ovation at the end of her speech are unimportant details that have nothing to do with the real story here.”
slp on November 7, 2009 at 4:45 PM
