The Army psychiatrist suspected of going on a shooting rampage at Fort Hood recently asked for advice on what he should tell fellow soldiers concerned about fighting Muslims in Iraq or Afghanistan, a local Muslim leader said Saturday.
Osman Danquah, co-founder of the Islamic Community of Greater Killeen, said he spoke with the suspected shooter, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, after two services in late summer. During the conversations, Danquah said Hasan never expressed anger toward the Army or indicated any plans for violence.
But during their second conversation, Hasan seemed almost incoherent, Danquah said.
“But what if a person gets in and feels that it’s just not right?” Danquah recalled Hasan asking him.
“I told him, `There’s something wrong with you,’” Danquah told The Associated Press during an interview at Fort Hood on Saturday. “I didn’t get the feeling he was talking for himself, but something just didn’t seem right.”

Did anyone watch that PBS series last year, Carrier? They discharged one crew member for racism based on another crew members complaint, and his desire to be discharged.
If you wanted to get discharged as a phychiatrist, what more do you have to do then try to 1) convert patients 2) speak against policy 3) express a desire to be discharged.

Just setting up that reliable “mental defect” defense. Ho hum. What else is new?
I sure hope the new Health Care Reform bill has something in there to cover all these Islamists who have mental illness. Maybe we need to research what is causing this epidemic. Maybe it’s genetic? Familial? Maybe it’s something in the falafel? Hmmmmmmmmm. I wonder WHAT it could be!

I saw that, Spirit. I thought it was terrible. They actively sought out every malcontent they could find and focused on them throughout. Even the one guy (the counseler) that appeared to have his act together turned out to be a hypocrite.
Yes, they did discharge the bigot on “Carrier,” but remember, there was an actual witness to his racism. So far, the only evidence we have for this murderer is his own and his family’s accusations.

Yeah, it was a pretty cold look. I only watched 3 or so episodes, but I did cheer for the girl trying to test for flight controller. I never saw what happened to her, though. Anyway. It just makes the kid gloves this guy was handled with more questionable.
Spirit of 1776 on November 7, 2009 at 1:16 PM
I agree, this is nothing more than setting up the “snapped” narrative…it had nothing to do with his religion./s

I have no military expeience, but would like to know if the Army can keep the people who had contact with him in the Army from saying anything negative about hasan because of the pc thing?

“I told him, `There’s something wrong with you,’”
What, that he’s about to snap? Or that he’s wearing the uniform of the infidels?

We see what we want. You’re desperate to see this as terrorism, when in all likelihood the guy went nuts (and happened to be Muslim).
Grow Fins on November 7, 2009 at 1:21 PM
Yes for active duty; no for retired personnel.

We see the evidence.
You’re desperate to see this as a guy who went nuts, when in all likelihood the guy was a terrorist (and happened to be Muslim.)

That sounds coherent to me.

What else did he say, Danquah?
“I mean, I’ve been reading the Koran a lot lately, and something’s just not right. I’m thinking maybe I shouldn’t be in the U.S. military.”
And what advice did you give him, Danquah? Inquiring minds want to know.

Same Damn Thing!
ronnyraygun on November 7, 2009 at 1:51 PM
How did you arrive at that conclusion?
What was the objective standard that you used as a baseline in determining that something is either A. based in religious dogma, or B. general mental breakdown?
What were the data points that you applied to the objective standard in order to arrive at the conclusion that you did?
This is the process..or something similar, that would have to be used to arrive at a rational conclusion (not kneejerked biased or one based in feeeelings).
If you shared this process with other posters your conclusions would have a sense of having been arrived at rationally.
Itchee Dryback on November 7, 2009 at 1:51 PM
Rationally and common sense are sadly lacking with the Statists – of course they wouldn’t be that if they were rational and had common sense, so it’s par for the course.

Doesn’t fly in Military Justice.
uknowmorethanme on November 7, 2009 at 2:13 PM
Hopefully.
But remember, it was the military’s politically correct diversity initiative that kept this ba$tard in the Army to begin with.
Hopefully that madness ends NOW.

The incoherence spin is the AP’s. What the imam said is he thought the guy was asking too many weird questions, stuck out like an odd duck. In fact, the imam thought Hasan was perhaps sent, aor attempting to infiltrate the Mosque to root around and spy on them, by the military or a US agency.
SarahW on November 7, 2009 at 2:22 PM
An interpretation of Danquah’s conversation with the perp: he seemed incoherent. And as for “data points,” “objective standards,” “baselines,” “rational conclusions (not kneejerked biased or one based in feeeelings),” the claim that Muslim = terrorist hardly qualifies either.
Grow Fins on November 7, 2009 at 2:36 PM
You can’t be too hard on Fins, even Ed jumped the shark yesterday and pronounced Hasan insane. (America can’t let the matter/anti-matter seal on Islam be broken)

Radical Muslims call Hasan “An officer and a gentleman“.
Schadenfreude on November 7, 2009 at 3:06 PM
Wow. You are dense.
This WAS terrorism. Plain and Simple. Worst attack on US Soil since 09/11 for that matter.
Terrorists ARE guys that go NUTS and are following the dictates of Islam.
Sheesh. Talk about pulling the wool over one’s OWN eyes. You are quite the piece of work.

okay, okay…we got it.

How is this the case when the woman who took Hasan down was a police officer?
