Red Eye averaged 432,000 total viewers and 202,000 in the demo. Let’s deal with the demo first – CNN’s 8pmET show, hosted by Campbell Brown, averaged 191,000 in the demo. Let’s just let that one sink in – Fox News had more people in the all important A25-54 demographic watching their channel at three in the morning (east coast time) than CNN had for the show that leads off their prime time. This says as much about Fox News as it does about CNN. Wow.
In total viewers (and demo), Red Eye beat the cable news competition three hours later. All three other morning shows, MSNBC’s Morning Joe, CNN’s American Morning and HLN’s Morning Express had less viewers in September.

CNN sucks?

Please move Red Eye to a reasonable time slot for those of us with jobs.

Red Eye is seriously the only reason that I bought a DVR. I love that show.
And yes, they need to take off one of the reruns of Greta and put this show on at a decent time. If they can drop the s-bomb and the f-bomb on FX network at 8pm, then we can see our favorite pansexual dilletente (sp?), our little midget and the ombudsman at a much better time with very little editing…
mjk on October 5, 2009 at 10:41 PM
Though this was still epic pawnage. Brown must be fuming.
nyx on October 5, 2009 at 10:42 PM
“Red Eye” should be on at 11PM or 12AM EST. Do we really need repeats of O’Reilly and Hannity that early? Get Gutfeld and Levy on earlier Fox News!
cubachi on October 5, 2009 at 10:43 PM
I love RedEye, and it gets DVRed. I would love it more if it aired at least an hour earlier.
Dubn8tr on October 5, 2009 at 10:43 PM
Even 12:00 pm would be fine. 3:00am is beyond silly. Most networks are airing infomercials by then.
jhffmn on October 5, 2009 at 10:43 PM
Not bad!
Although, Red Eye is on at a time when TV is in “infomercial” mode…so it’s like the only “new” show on at 3am.
JetBoy on October 5, 2009 at 10:43 PM
RedEye has hot chicks. CNN doesn’t.
DerKrieger on October 5, 2009 at 10:44 PM
I second the above commenters, Red Eye’s awesome.
TimTebowSavesAmerica on October 5, 2009 at 10:44 PM
Fox has Red eye.
CNN.. Brown eye.
44Magnum on October 5, 2009 at 10:49 PM
Note to Fox News: Red Eye would have quite a few more viewers if you moved it up a bit. Dump the re-run of O’Reilly.
amerpundit on October 5, 2009 at 10:50 PM
If CNN were Larry King, it would have shot it’s wad a long, long time ago.

I used to watch it all the time when we lived in the Seattle area. They’re hilarious. Fox needs to shuffle it’s entire line-up.
conservative pilgrim on October 5, 2009 at 10:59 PM
Amen. I don’t know, should I use amen with Red Eye? Sure, why not, they seem like a nice group.
Cindy Munford on October 5, 2009 at 11:01 PM
Out here on the west coast, local left wing news and letterman or beck and redeye. Not exactly a tough call.

cubachi on October 5, 2009 at 10:43 PM
Uh…you do realize that is 8pm West Coast, ie prime time, right? That time slot is nearly as big as the 8pm east coast slot for Bill O. It’s also the only viable time for people with jobs not on the east coast to see the show, if they were inclined.
Just buy a DVR.
Nessuno on October 5, 2009 at 11:09 PM
Started watching a few months ago. DVR it everyday. I wish I lived on the west coast. I agree, dump Greta’s rerun and move Beck and REye back an hour…

Red eye is the reason one of the best inventions since sliced toast was born!…..tivo!
Bluestate_Blues on October 5, 2009 at 11:15 PM
And isn’t this without counting those who record it?
It’s a brilliant show. I can’t even imagine what it would be like if they actually had writers and a decent budget. Maybe I don’t even want to know.
Despite despising Fox, I know many liberals who watch the show as well. Even with the Fox News label and a late time slot, the show can reach across the isle by actually bringing them to our side. Aren’t we supposed to have a bunch of rich guys on our side? Can’t this show get some help?
Esthier on October 5, 2009 at 11:16 PM
Ugh. Nothing’s more disgusting than the thought of a naked Anna Gilligan at nude Quaker Camp. The water running down her smooth skin, as if it understood that its presence there was truly magical…
amerpundit on October 5, 2009 at 11:21 PM
Wonder if this accounts for DVR recordings too or just the Neilsen ratings.
Red Eye would whoop the hell out of anything MSNBC or Comedy Central tries to put up thats aimed at this age group.
Rbastid on October 5, 2009 at 11:22 PM
Having writers and a huge budget would kill the show. Having the guys on there with help from Allison and some others is what makes the show great, with money you have people who want to control the show more, which would start to kill it.
Rbastid on October 5, 2009 at 11:24 PM
BTW, Yoga News w/ Lauren Sivan and Patti Ann Browne’s dress were the two greatest things EVAH to grace RedEye…
davek70 on October 5, 2009 at 11:28 PM
I agree. That’s the charm of the show. Also, the unpredictableness and goofiness make it fun.
conservative pilgrim on October 5, 2009 at 11:33 PM
Bwahahahahahaha!!!!!
mizflame98 on October 5, 2009 at 11:35 PM
That’s probably true. Though a skit or two, instead of some of the youtube clips that are barely funny if you’re drunk, could help a little. Or, I’d even settle for better youtube clips.
The show does well with this feel that it’s a bunch of smart people discussing the news (and not yelling on top of each other which has become too annoying to watch), but sometimes it’s too much like a conversation I’d have with my friends.
I just think with a little extra money from someone not interested in changing anything might give it a more polished, but not too polished, feel that’s it’s been lacking. I love the show and will watch it religiously no matter what, but sometimes it feels a little public access though it has the makings of something better than The Daily Show.
Esthier on October 5, 2009 at 11:35 PM
It would, however, be preferable if FNC switched to separate East and West Coast feeds and aired lots more original programming in the overnight hours. It’ll never happen, but I wish it would.
The Lone Platypus on October 5, 2009 at 11:39 PM
I’m in agreement. Kill the YouTube clips; they act as roadblocks where everyone sits in complete silence while they try to figure out what’s going on.
I’d also rather see something written ahead of time than the voicemail audio from fans. That sort of stuff just brings the entire show to a complete halt and makes it impossible to get a rhythm going, when it’s already hard enough due to the commercial breaks. And the recurring cheap gags are kind of lame. I’d like to see a little more sophistication tossed in once in a while. Also, Bill Schulz needs to be deloused and/or executed.
These are minor quibbles, though. All in all, I love the show.
The Lone Platypus on October 5, 2009 at 11:47 PM
One winks. The other stinks.
UltimateBob on October 5, 2009 at 11:49 PM
If this doesn’t tell the rest of the mainstream media that there’s something wrong, nothing will. It was enough of a blow to have Glenn Beck come in at 5pm and have more viewers than total prime time viewers on MSNBC, CNN, and Headline News. But Fox puts together hot chicks, former Maxim writers, talking about the news (and drugs and trannys) etc. – AT 3 F-ING AM!!! – And it can even beat prime time programming on the other nets!?
If anything ever deserved a “BWAHAHAHAHAA” it’s this.
RightWinged on October 5, 2009 at 11:52 PM
And why not? It’s a great show.
Aside from football and baseball, it’s my only reason for missing cable tv. It’s on Hulu, but the episodes are always 2 weeks old.
Hawkins1701 on October 5, 2009 at 11:54 PM
I also wonder if they’re counting the thousands of travelers around the country who are forced to watch CNN as they pass through airport terminals every day. It’s always on the TVs when I’m walking through any airport.
Not that I’m trying to help CNN any… it would actually be pretty funny if those viewers were counted and Red Eye still beat them
Red Eye rocks.
UltimateBob on October 5, 2009 at 11:54 PM
Hahaha. Imagining Anna Gilligan’s nude Quaker Camp is even better than Courtney Friel talking about her feelings on horse johnsons and her shaved beaver… skin boots.
RightWinged on October 5, 2009 at 11:57 PM
Love the and/or.
In general I agree with you. There’s just so much talent in the show, but it’s really difficult to be witty on the spot. I imagine a few scripted segments, maybe even a cheap “man on the street” video with a Red Eye twist, would add something extra to the show.
Though, honestly, I’d almost watch the show if it were nothing but Greg’s opening comments about his guests. The sexual innuendos make me laugh out loud every time with one of those shock laughs that’d divert something liquid up my nose if I were drinking.
Esthier on October 6, 2009 at 12:01 AM
It’s reason enough to get cable TV.
Though, as a football fan, AT&T’s U-Verse might have something you like. It’s not my thing, but my husband likes the Red Zone thing they just started. It shows all the games, but only once they get near scoring range. They also have an interesting five channels on one screen sports and news thing (you get one main channel with sound and about four other channels on the side without sound). I used it on 9/12 to see who all was covering the protest. Mostly just C-Span and Fox.
/spokesperson rant
Full disclosure so Ed and Allah aren’t fined, they aren’t paying me anything, though I do work for a company who has AT&T as a client.
Esthier on October 6, 2009 at 12:09 AM
Red Eye is a great show and is proof that being a conservative can be hip.
Now that IMUS is on FOX Business you can kiss Rino Joe goodbye!
Where will all of these liberals get jobs?
Who knows? Who cares?
iam7545 on October 6, 2009 at 12:10 AM
Campbell Brown is on at 8 in the evening.
Jim Treacher on October 6, 2009 at 12:18 AM
Looked up AT&T U-verse to check it out.
Not available in my area, apparently.
That football thing sounds great, though. The A and double Ts just has to work on getting its service out here. (There’s a store down the street, go fig.)
Hawkins1701 on October 6, 2009 at 12:21 AM
Red Eye rocks. It gets DVR’d in this house.
I missed Yoga News, but I have fond memories of Patti Ann in that dress
ornery_independent on October 6, 2009 at 12:38 AM
Red Eye is awesome, it’s like hanging around with your twisted but closest friends and talking about the crap you’ve heard over the course of the day, but without having to be politically correct and minding your every word.
The re-runs are fine where they are since the show can be very crude at times. I would like to see them replace the Greta rerun with Red Eye but what they really should do is put Red Eye on Fox Broadcasting at 12:00 am and watch it destroy all other late night competition. Throw in a Dennis Miller show at 11:00 pm and Fox suddenly dominates after primetime.

Red Eye is on each night around 9 PM in my house – courtesy of the DVR.
Clark1 on October 6, 2009 at 1:40 AM
I love this show and have since the beginning. It’s one of the best shows on TV. Easily the best one on the news networks. Add me to the DVR list. There are a dozen or so watching it because I told them repeatedly they had to.
Reminds me of another humor/politics/vaguely conservative show that was on Comedy Central a while back—Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn. If there were a DVD for that show I’d buy it instantly. It was a crime it was cancelled.

It’s just wrong to think of her back at Quaker camp…

You sir disgust me for even bringing it up.

Well I have the solution for that! It’s time for Kiran Chetry to do that program in a bikini.
radjah shelduck on October 6, 2009 at 7:12 AM
And probably a pretty good reason they have good ratings at that hour. RedEye or ShamWOW!!
Jim708 on October 6, 2009 at 7:36 AM
I watched Red Eye a few times when I woke up in the middle of the night to feed the baby. I was like WTF, what is this show, it’s awesome, why is it on at 3? I was sure that the show had to be a repeat from an earlier showing. But sure enough it was actually scheduled for 3. Weird.
angryed on October 6, 2009 at 8:39 AM
Agreed. Hysterically funny. I can’t believe Lauren Sivan actually agreed to do it.
The problem is that the show is too risque for Fox to air at 11pm. The sexually-oriented humor and such is pretty aggressive, and while I find it funny, a lot of Fox’s viewers wouldn’t. Probably the only nighttime talk show that’s got the same level of edge is Chelsea Lately, and that’s aired on E.
That said, I wonder how Red Eye would do at 12:00 or 1:00.
Outlander on October 6, 2009 at 9:14 AM
Dennis Miller is not a good talk show guy. Every one of his talk shows has failed due to low ratings. He’s funny, but his sense of humor is best parceled out in small doses.
Outlander on October 6, 2009 at 9:16 AM
I love Andy Levy and Mike Baker – and P.A.B. The half-time report is genius. I DVR this show every night.

Huge fan here. Some days in these dark times, the only way I can take the news is with a dose of absurdity.
BlueStateBilly on October 6, 2009 at 9:53 AM
Nice to see S.E. Cupp back in the leg chair last night…and wearing the stripey stockings too!
I love the way that when S.E. giggles, her chest giggles right along!
BlueStateBilly on October 6, 2009 at 10:13 AM
Isn’t it time to start calling FNC the “mainstream media” now?
Dollayo on October 6, 2009 at 11:17 AM
Yeah, it’s because of the way they send out their signal. They just started doing this a few years ago. It’s only been available where I live for the last year (maybe less), even though people who lived within walking distance had it a year or so longer.
Eh, it’s a cable station. Even though it beats the other cable stations, it doesn’t come close to network TV. I don’t think it’ll be called main stream until it is mainstreamed.
Fox can drive a story, but not with one segment or even a few dozen.
