Another $200,000 came in after the deadline — all of it in the days following Palin’s July 3 announcement that she’s stepping down as Alaska governor, said Meghan Stapleton , a spokeswoman for her campaign.
It’s “above par,” said Steve Gordon , a Washington -based Republican fundraising veteran who works mostly on Senate campaigns.
The big question, however, is what she does with the money, Gordon said. So far, Palin has donated to just two candidates: $5,000 to her 2008 running mate, Sen. John McCain , R- Ariz. , and another $5,000 to Sen. Lisa Murkowski , R- Alaska .

So, let me get this straight…
Romney has raised $1,400,000 this year so far, by touring, doing speaking circuits, and fund-raising–pulling in big donors.
Palin has raised around $900,000 this year so far, by doing nothing.
Mhm. And whose political career is over?

daesleeper on July 13, 2009 at 9:58 PM
Let’s see — she turned in her resignation ten calendar days ago. She’s managed to haul in $20,000 a day on average since then, the 2010 midterms are 16 months away and the next Presidential election is two years after that, she hasn’t said anything clear about running for President (even though half the world has apparently decided that that is what she’s doing), and she’s really only indicated a desire to help conservatives (Republican, Democrat, OR Independent) get elected.
I’d say that’s pretty good chunk of change for somebody who’s supposed to be a thickheaded loser/quitter who deserves no place at the table according to Peggy Noonan. :p

Ross Perot had lots of money to spend, too. And his polling numbers made Palin’s look like garbage. But all that matters in the end are votes.

What the Ayatollah’s don’t realize is …
the more this woman is placed in “extremis” situations – the more her supporters come to her support.
This is the biggest evidence I can cite that the GOP is a dead party – it’s leaders don’t realize that they are creating the instrument of their own downfall in Sarah Palin.
When Ayatollahs don’t have enough sense to realize their own political survival is at stake – when they continue to walk into the snake pit while the rattlers are sounding the alarm …
Why would we trust these guys with OUR government when they can’t even do what’s best for them. Sure – they’re the lesser of two evils but – how long have we been playing this game. We make a run of this in another party – the way the first Republicans did over a hundred years ago.
I mean – could you have Mitt and Sarah in the same party? LOL! They do! And they’re pushing her out of it!
Can you spell SUICIDE?
HondaV65 on July 13, 2009 at 10:33 PM
The difference is Perot’s money was his own. Not donations. Does she have way to go in polling? Yes, but she has three two and a half years to get there.

Perot had a lot of grassroots support. But in the end most Americans felt they weren’t quite comfortable with him. Palin in 2012 would be a catastrophe. We don’t need yet another inexperienced politician using the Presidency as an entry-level position. Maybe in a decade or two, it will be her time, but not now. If she wants to lead in another way, let her try. But the last few weeks have not been the great weeks that her followers desperately want to believe.

I just hope when she runs she creates a third party and lures all of you social cons over with her. The GOP will lose a couple elections badly, but then it can finally actually attract independents and people who are concerned mainly with fiscal conservatism.

It probably had something to do with his “on again / off again” candidacy and his descriptions of black helicopters orbiting his daughter’s wedding.
If Palin comes out and proves to be a decisive, reliable fighter – the road ahead is clear for her.
If she don’s a tin foil cap like Perot did – she will be finished. I’m pulling for her though – because – try as I might – I do not feel comfortable with imagining her as a loser. I think there is something to this woman that most people don’t see.
HondaV65 on July 13, 2009 at 11:07 PM

Palin can easily raise money from the fanatical palinistas. The more extreme the person, the more likely they are to throw money at their messiah, and the more they are likely to donate. Look at the money Ron Paul raised. Yet look at the raw numbers of people who voted for him. He got a boat load of money just by being Ron Paul and yet his primary turn out was embarrassing. This is what would happen with Palin.

The bulk of the GOP support comes from the South – the Bible belt.
Oh … and also – takes $$ for a party to survive. Wonder if Mitt will front his wallet to keep the GOP alive the few years it will take your plan to reach fruition.
I mean – I wish you luck – I hope for a third party too – but for different reasons than you do. I’d like to see all the liberals who call themselves “fiscal conservatives” to realize they are really democrats trapped in an elephant’s body!

Good piece although this part is not quite accurate, as written.
The cost of farming will certainly increase but that won’t increase the price of groceries. Increased costs on the other links in the chain will certainly affect the cost of food, but the farmer has no control over what he is paid for raw materials, even if his costs go up, so his increased costs are not relevant to increased retail food prices. I realize I’m nit picking a bit.

a capella on July 14, 2009 at 12:13 AM
You are nitpicking, you do have a point, but you are wrong IMO.
Saw this cycle happen with small farms with my own eyes a few decades ago. Costs went up, prices didn’t keep pace, small farms went under and more produce was shipped from larger farms in CA & FL. Transportation costs were part of it, but farmers selling out or shifting to other profitable crops did play into higher food costs. Double whammy- job/land losses and higher end prices.

from reading the editorial in the washington post it is clear that those that believe Palin is stupid are they themselves stupid to a fault and can not see what is reality instead of what the MSM tells them to think. she nails it. energy independence is the key to economic rebirth. Cheap energy has always been the driving force behind americia’s greatness. It was cheap energy from hydro that started the miracle of CA. It was also increases in that energy prices by environmentals in CA that started the economic destruction of CA. The different gasoline blends, the ban on offshore drilling, the no nukes people etc pushed the energy price up to the point that CA became a net importer of energy.

An older conservative acquaintance of mine actually thought that Palin had said that “she could see Alaska from her house.” These older gents get all their info from the tube. Here it is: climate change worker adjustment assistance
According to a recent Washington Times article:
Adversely affected employees in oil, coal and other fossil-fuel sector jobs would qualify for a weekly check worth 70 percent of their current salary for up to three years. In addition, they would get $1,500 for job-search assistance and $1,500 for moving expenses from the bill’s “climate change worker adjustment assistance” program, which is expected to cost $4.2 billion from 2011 to 2019.
So maybe Palin does read the news.

Now that would have been funny. except the McCain campaign was trying to spin the “fact” that she had little experience internationally so they tried to play up her strengths instead of attacking Obama’s. they never learned how to attack just defend. and it cost them.

I see your point. I disagree. The interview with Gibson was fine for what it was. the CBS interview wasa hitjob. And frankly I’m too tired at the moment to debate it further than this. IMO the trap was fallen into by the McCain staff not her. The belived the narriative that the MSM was playing and instead of attacking with Palin they ordered her to defend not only her experience but also toe the line with McCain’s worldview. Thus she had to walk a tightrope and should never had been in that position. McCain’s people should have allowed her to get her point out on talk radio, local media etc first before unleashing CBS and ABC on her. It was like sending a soldier into a war zone without a gun or ammo. The only thing she could do was take it and not attack. the media made the trap, McCain’s staff walked into it.
We will see if she walks into any on her own. Only time will tell. she can use Obama’s campaign for her traps for the media. Everything they failed to report on during 08 she can say you didn’t find that newsworthy in 08 why now? She can play the double standard card into the teeth of the media for all its worth now.

I’m not disputing that it was the campaign who fell into the trap. Still, she’s the one who’s suffering from it now.

I hope she doesn’t give the assholes who’ve trashed her on national tv a DIME of SarahPAC’s money.
As the ADN says, she’s the “Fundraising Queen.” And all of these GOP “insider” jerks can suck it.

Why does Sarah have to form a 3rd party? Let the blue-blood, elite coastal snobs start THEIR own party if they don’t like the Republican party’s base. Why is it always us that has to change or move along?
Grrrrrr!

I too didn’t believe the Fed stuff until about a year ago. Once I studied it I realized it wasn’t a conspiracy at all. It’s a big out of control non-governmental bank.
America could easily print it’s own money. That way we don’t pay the private Federal Reserve interest on the money the print for us.
If we get rid of the Fed, we will be free again. No Obama, and no Fed, the comeback will shock the world. I believe it can be done, but don’t believe that it can be done with the GOP, or at least in it’s current form.

Darn. Was hoping she would move to Arizona. hehe

I’m waiting to hear from those who dismissed her fund raising potentials yesterday, based on the fact that her PAC which was barely advertised had only raised 1/3rd the amount of Romney’s PAC, despite the fact that Romney had been fund raising full time while Palin spent most of her time being governor.

Good stuff…thanks for sharing. Will make another donation to SarahPac at the end of the month.

If she shows up in Florida at a Rubio fundraiser/rally, then this will get REALLY interesting. I love to see the “insiders” get b*tch slapped by her.
Muletrain on July 14, 2009 at 9:43 AM
Exactly. Let them start a third party. They are the outliers.
