I don’t have a problem w/the ice cream deal. I do have a problem w/his majesty’s inaction over the past week re. Iran. The Yahoo news photo of a loving Dad and his daughters just didn’t work for me after watching the horrific video of a young woman’s life flowing out of her on a Tehran street.

As stupid as your plan obviously is, even that would be a significant improvement. (Although, with all due respect, attending briefings and directing intelligence ops pretty much 24/7 would probably be an infinitely better use of a President’s time right about now.)
A real President would see this as an opportunity to advance America’s interests, the world’s stability, and hopefully even the cause of a little thing called freedom – maybe you’ve heard of it?
But what does Barak Hussein Obama do? He gives a speech every few days to let the world know that he finds all the noise coming from Iran generally “annoying”, and spends the rest of his time trying really hard to forget about it.
There’s nothing evil per se about ice cream; or Father’s Day TV specials; or Tony Hawk; or running General Motors; or any one of a hundred other things Obama is focusing his attention on right now.
What’s evil is Barak Obama’s inverted view of priorities.
He treats what’s going on in Iran as an inconvenience he wishes would just hurry up and be squelched so he can get back to doing whatever the Hell he thinks his job is supposed to be.

P.S. This doesn’t fall under the categories of Red Herring or Straw Man. What do you call this thing that the left does by taking a larger issue and making it about the catalyst?
It’s like if (and I know I’m taking it to extremes here) Obama was on the street and a rape happened right in front of him but he didn’t do anything, didn’t call for help, and ordered his Secret Service Agents not to get involved. Then he kneels down and ties his shoes and walks away.

Major International crisis and he went for ice cream?
Maybe he’s just following Rahm’s advice?
“You never want a serious crisis to go to waste — and what I mean by that is an opportunity to do things that you didn’t think you could do before.” -Rahm Emanuel
I’m guessing he went out because the pressure and criticism got to him. For a guy who has never been critized to all of a sudden have his feet held to the fire, it must be rough. So he uses his girls as beards, goes out and gets ice cream, but really just wanted applause from his minions (which you can see in more photos at the link).
This is the just like the pirate deal. Screw around for days, make no comment, wait until the whole thing is just completely out of hand and then let someone do the heavy lifting and try to take credit.
But Mousavi is the not the US Navy, he will not let Obama off the hook so easy, neither will the people of Iran.
The point to the ice cream deal is that is typical of the kind of silly and irrelevant posturing that is so much of a part of the Obama administration.

He has “Rocky Road” ice cream at the moment, no matter what he orders.
[Obama] walked through the doors of The Dairy Godmother with daughters Sasha and Malia in an unannounced visit that startled those inside the bustling neighborhood custard shop.
At this boutique on Mount Vernon Avenue, the sign indicates that the line forms to the right. But Mr. Obama and his small entourage went to the left, bypassing the crowd.
You have to understand that Obama can’t say anything strong about Iran because neither side has had a victory he can claim yet.
If the protesters win he’ll say he ‘agonized’ about them and make several phone calls…
If the Mullah wins he’ll claim he supported _him_ as the moderate view in Iran and that he was democratically elected.

I agree. For all I can’t stand about the man, he and I are both fathers, and the truth is that the years between now and the time his daughters are married and gone are going to fly by at 10 times the rate it would have now that he’s president. On that point I have nothing but understanding.
The Iranians have dug their own hole, generation after generation, and if they want to climb out of it this time for good, fine, but life shouldn’t grind to a halt for anyone in America, even the president, just because Iran is having another blood-in-the-streets spasm. Obama does need to make some pretty clear statements on the value of freedom and the nature of democracy, lest the rest of his fellow countrymen be left with an even stronger impression than they already have that he understands neither, but for God’s sake let the man take his daughters to get some ice cream. Conservatives don’t need to take stand against that; we need to talk about the rights human beings were given by their Creator to be free, and determine for themselves the way are governed. If I recall correctly that’s rarely failed us in the past.

In principle, yes you are right. Let the man take his daughters for ice cream.
But imagine this was Bush taking his daughters for ice cream. Headlines would scream “BUSH EAT CHOCOLATE AS TEHRAN BURNS”. And while two wrongs don’t make a right, they do in this case.
The left plays dirty. It bites, scratches, gouges, spits, hits below the belt every chance it gets. If you want to win against them you have to do the same. And this means Obama gets 0 leeway. When he goes out for ice cream, he gets criticized. When he plays golf he gets criticized. When he takes dump that lasts more than 5 minutes he gets criticized.
Otherwise you might as well pack up and go home.

Oh, I know exactly how the left plays. I’ve watched them since the day Reagan first took office, and I battle them every day in a very public arena. I am certainly not saying that we should cut Obama slack on the ice cream because the liberals cut Bush slack on golfing or reading to kids about goats.
My point is that, in times of real crisis, as Gutfeld writes in his post at another thread, people tend to look around and ask “Where are the adults?” My hope is that during those times, most of us conservatives can in good conscience raise our hands and say, “Right here.” We can’t do that if we’re simultaneously being churlish about a dad spending some time with his daughters.
My other point is that, in the grand scheme of things, being president just ain’t that important. Obama may not understand that, but we need to. The office is supposed to be occupied by men of maturity and courage who have proven themselves successful leaders in other areas of life, not as a reward for their achievements, but because the country should benefit from their character and experience. Again, Obama may not realize this, and I’m not about to make the case that he’s a man of maturity and courage who has proven himself successful at anything worthwhile, but we’re neither being faithful to our own values, nor making the case that we should be the ones from whom the next president is chosen, when we denigrate the simple but important things that good fathers do.

No, the thing is that if this incompetent clown were doing anything substantive, the friggin’ news wouldn’t be about his ice cream outings or his flights to Manhattan or Paris or Hawaii or whatever golf course he’s on at the moment.
Not to fear, though; if the Iranians were to overthrow their mullahocracy tomorrow, Obama and his stooges would be out there preening for the cameras as if Teh One were personally responsible.

My very first thought too. How else can a POTUS go on CBS without a recent documentation of being the best daddy first and foremost. This will be woven into this interview to the hilt. See America, I am not fake or counterfeit pop but a genuine good to my daughters first after all. It is not like they don’t serve ice cream at the white house. This will play well to the State Run Media audience. The Obots will go AAAWWWWWW! Iran? What about it? Oh yeah, I’ll take care of that distraction later.
Americannodash on June 21, 2009 at 12:50 AM

(A second reason is tha Zero is just to damn busy taking notes….)

Greg,
In principle, yes you are right.

Ugh. I used to live about a mile from that ice cream shop. It’s pretentious, just like the entire neighborhood is. Del Ray is a neighborhood full of cute little bungalows that sell to white latte liberals for $800,000. They all have Obama stickers on their BMWs. It used to be a nice little grungy working-class neighborhood until the yuppies came in and ruined it. Probably a lot like Hyde Park where the Obamas used to live.

Del Dolemonte on June 21, 2009 at 1:03 PM
We have a winnah.
Del Dolemonte on June 21, 2009 at 1:05 PM
Again, Obama may not realize this, and I’m not about to make the case that he’s a man of maturity and courage who has proven himself successful at anything worthwhile, but we’re neither being faithful to our own values, nor making the case that we should be the ones from whom the next president is chosen, when we denigrate the simple but important things that good fathers do.
greggriffith on June 21, 2009 at 1:13 PM
