Mere Rhetoric
When Krauthammer muses that Obama shows disdain both grandiose and petty for the history of the office he inhabits, this is the kind of sensibility that he’s talking about. Although I’m not sure that “history” is the right word since apparently the ascent of Dear Leader is Year Zero…

Not to worry, comrades; it’s just those hard working folks at the Ministry of Truth doin’ their job..

Barack Obama is a very arrogant
dickman.carbon_footprint on May 4, 2009 at 4:50 PM
Why is it that its leftists who usually try to ‘erase’ and revise history? Remember this, folks?
Richard Romano on May 4, 2009 at 4:51 PM
Is that legal? I thought all WH communications were archived forever?
lorien1973 on May 4, 2009 at 4:51 PM
Can anyone see my blockquote from the article or is it still blocked?
BadgerHawk on May 4, 2009 at 4:51 PM
Didn’t the Nazis try to write themselves into history?
And don’t socialist and communist dictators, totalitarians, and all the other bad forms of government censor reading material? Like the Nazis?
Anyone who can’t see the parallels here is a total dink.
madmonkphotog on May 4, 2009 at 4:51 PM
I thought this as well.
Obama and his administration are apparently above any law though.
carbon_footprint on May 4, 2009 at 4:53 PM
From Wikipedia:
The idea behind Year Zero is that all culture and traditions within a society must be completely destroyed or discarded and a new revolutionary culture must replace it, starting from scratch. All history of a nation or people before Year Zero is largely irrelevant, as it will (as an ideal) be purged and replaced from the ground up.

Modern Book burning.
the_nile on May 4, 2009 at 4:53 PM
That’s about the size of it. Nobody did anything with technology before Giggles. That’s the storyline, and they dare you to go find any evidence to the contrary.
BTW, wasnt’ Nixon strung up by his suspenders for erasing some White House tapes?
crazy_legs on May 4, 2009 at 4:57 PM
They’ll be erasing the laws next, and say “it’s time for a new era of laws!”

baldilocks on May 4, 2009 at 5:00 PM
So vast a chasm, in fact, that I was didn’t even know the Bush-era White House had Twitter posts.

Well alrighty then. So he can cut the “inherited from Bush” crap now too.

Ris4victory on May 4, 2009 at 5:07 PM
No seriously…how is this legal?
Sarjex on May 4, 2009 at 5:10 PM
I love how we were all told that the new administration was super tech savvy and that the Bush administration was a bunch of luddites. Never mind the fact that the old administrtaion had been doing podcasts of speeches for the past six-seven years and used Twitter, amongst other things.
strictnein on May 4, 2009 at 5:10 PM
Long term, I’d probably be more concerned about the Obama-era digital documents the Obama Administration wipes out. Any Perella Weinberg-related topics over the past two weeks are probably a good place to start.

Awesome.
lorien1973 on May 4, 2009 at 5:13 PM
There’s a part of me that wants to chalk this up solely to insecurity on Bambi’s part like everything else – the faux seal, the Greek columns, the “office of the president elect” on every podium in the run-up to the inauguration, going after Hannity and Rush by name… It all just screams insecurity, as does this. That’s not to say there isn’t some dastardly plot a foot, it just seems like insecurity is the easier answer. Who knows? Maybe I should stop shaving with Occam’s razor…
HadithHarry on May 4, 2009 at 5:25 PM
Hey, you guys remember when our country was awesome and we had a great president that all the MSM hated? Those were good times.
carbon_footprint on May 4, 2009 at 5:27 PM
Wow. They aren’t even pretending not to be strong-armed fascists. No doubt Tax Cheat Geither will enjoy having his own personal army at his disposal.

ctmom on May 4, 2009 at 5:52 PM
It is time for all concerned Americans to go to the local hardware and buy a pitchfork, then march on Washington.
Of course everyone would have to do that before Obama outlaws pitchforks. That will be done just after he outlaws teabags, sometime prior to July 4th.
Yoop on May 4, 2009 at 5:57 PM
Ok, it’s twitter. It’s not memos, it’s not white house records, it’s twitter.
I’m not sure if there is more fluff in this article or the one about the actually bunny rabbit.
therightscoop on May 4, 2009 at 5:59 PM
What a douche.
Seriously. He’s the f’ing president. If he wanted to start fresh, any peon on his staff could have dropped an email to twitter asking them to save the earlier tweets off to a different ID — whitehouse43 or something — and they would have scattered to have it done in .23 seconds.
What a shallow, nasty little tool.

It’s some of the earliest online writing from the White House. Lincoln’s personal letters weren’t official White House records either. Ok to torch ‘em?
I have no idea why this makes me so mad. It’s just so disgustingly petty.

I can’t speak to their specific legal requirements, but generally speaking, all of this has to be archived. I work with ORR (open record requests) all day long.
And anyone can do an ORR. It’s a piece of paper and some postage.

I’m glad someone understands this.

They did that to prove that they were the Superior throughout history. And they themselves are the fulfillment of prophecy which they added to history.
