She should mention Gov. Palin as it was the only good part of McShames run for campaign.
Wade on January 13, 2009 at 8:10 AM
Alright. I’m officially totally confused. Didn’t MMC have tons of nice things to say about the Palins during the campaign?
What the heck happened here?
IrishEi on January 13, 2009 at 8:10 AM
Palin should have been top of the ticket.
Mr. Bingley on January 13, 2009 at 8:13 AM
The big gov machine doesn’t like the real thing.
The MSM gets their bailout , the pay for play gets their kickbacks.
Next generation gets to pay the IOU.

Perhaps she actually likes the Palins, but daddy’s so bewildered by his own ineptitude, but so proud he can’t see it, that to speak well of Palin hints at his woeful performance as a candidate, and she just can’t bring herself to do that.
On the other hand, she’s a big fan of Dita Von Teese…
beatcanvas on January 13, 2009 at 8:15 AM
Obviously she can’t comment because words don’t yet exist which can describe the extent of Sarah Palin’s sheer awesomeness.
Palin 2012, and when that doesn’t work, 2016, 2020 and beyond!
e-pirate on January 13, 2009 at 8:16 AM
I like Meghan and for her own good she needs to keep her opinion on Sarahcuda very vague. McLame is a tired, beat-down, ball-less RINO and Meghan can’t re-enforce that perception. Meghan and Sarah are the future of conservatism, not McShamnesty and his RINO pals.

Hmmm, let’s see. For one, the campaign ended. During the campaign she was trying to get her father elected. Not saying nice things about Palin wouldn’t exactly help that cause.

Can we quit talking about Sarah Palin?
therightwinger on January 13, 2009 at 8:27 AM
I think Miss McCain is put in a rather awkward position being asked to comment on Gov. Palin’s impact on the campaign. On the one hand, many within the campaign have publicly stated that they believed that adding Gov. Palin to the ticket with a huge strategic blunder. It’s possible that her father may be among those who have said such things privately, and certainly the McCain camp has done little to dissuade such talk. Miss McCain probably doesn’t agree with such a position. So either she agrees with the popular opinion that adding Gov. Palin to the ticket was moronic and alienates Gov. Palin and her family…
Or Meghan goes on the record calling her dad a jerk for making Gov. Palin the scapegoat of a rather mediocre campaign whose only pulse was adding Gov. Palin to the ticket. So I can understand Miss McCain choose not to comment.

Did Hot Air win the Blog Award for Conservative Blog With Athiest Staff Member With Palin Derangement Syndrome?
snaggletoothie on January 13, 2009 at 8:33 AM
Don’t whine. There’s nothing deranged about the quote. It’s an interesting footnote to the campaign given the sniping at Palin from McCain’s camp.
Allahpundit on January 13, 2009 at 8:39 AM
Agreed. It’s odd and unbecoming to McCain.

Meghan voted for Kerry and describes herself as a social liberal. If she’s the future of conservatism, then we’re in trouble…

Palin’s knife fight with the Anchorage Daily News over their Trig Trutherism is continuing. The executive editor there last night first published the full text of Palin’s complaint to him, then followed it up with yet another post.
Money quote from the ADN:
He’s still trying to claim they were only dabbling in Trig Trutherism in an attempt to “help” Palin by proving the story false. The ADN helping Palin is about as likely as Iran helping Israel against Hamas.
Jim62sch on January 13, 2009 at 9:08 AM
rightwinger, we’ll stop talking about Sarah Palin in about 30 to 40 years, when we’re all dead and buried.
I agree with the poster above. If Sarah doesn’t win in 2012, we run her again in 2016, or 2020, 2024.
Whatever it takes.
And if for some reason the GOP won’t run her all those times, we run her on the Libertarian Party ticket.
SARAH PALIN WILL BE PRESIDENT ONE DAY!!!
ericdondero on January 13, 2009 at 9:09 AM
I start this by saying I love Palin. However, we have to remember, the collapse of the market came after Palin’s pick, so in retrospect, it was a strategic blunder. She didn’t have the economic background to help McCain’s poor understanding of economics. Further, both supported the bailout…something even the McCain camp says was a strategic blunder.
On the other hand, it was the religious conservatives who had such a problem with Romney that they’ve helped usher in a new and not improved FDR.
But in the end, McCain was just a piss poor republican candidate. He thought his near miss in 2000 guaranteed him the spot in 2008.
bloghooligan on January 13, 2009 at 9:09 AM
Exactly. It not only makes a blog good, it’s what makes any media source good. Why stop filtering now? Sharing her view of Sarah Palin is the only thing that would make this particular interview worth reading. Especially since she positively gushed over Sarah’s “coolness” on the bus during the campaign.
Puddleglum on January 13, 2009 at 9:14 AM
You think she could have had any other opinion running as a vp.

Puddleglum on January 13, 2009 at 9:16 AM
God, I hope not.
therightwinger on January 13, 2009 at 9:23 AM
As most everyone else has stated, she feels she is so “open” and “unfiltered”, then she doesn’t remark on the most significant part of the campaign…Palin.
Looks like the little darling daughter was pushed to the side, and another “daddy’s” girl took her place…

Not everyone who supported Sarah and disliked Mitt was a religious conservative. I am an agnostic fiscal conservative and I loved Sarah and was not a big fan of Romney. He always seems like a smooth-talking politician (a la “Slick Willie”) and she seems genuine. I probably would have voted for him, given the alternative, but I would not have actively campaigned for the ticket (as I did when Sarah was chosen for VP). Neither Sarah’s nor Mitt’s beliefs bother me because I haven’t seen them try to impose their beliefs on their constituents, nor have I heard them speak ill of other people’s religions. I would NEVER vote for Huckabee, and changed party affiliation from independent to republican to vote AGAINST him in the primaries.
As for economic credentials, I think she has governed Alaska well, and I’m not convinced Mitt is an economic savior (his attempt at universal health care in MA isn’t going so well).
vermillionsky on January 13, 2009 at 9:31 AM
I’m beginning to feel sorry for the guy…You see this? I’m betting that all the attention on the ADN this past week gave her an excuse to finally address it on the record. The troofers have been harassing her about it for months.
I’m sure that Meghan is a nice person, and if she doesn’t have anything decent to say then I’m just as glad that she’s keeping her mouth shut. I’ve wondered since it came out if that bit in the Newsweek post-election article about Meghan cursing at staff, etc. was true. I’m not willing to take it at face value that it was because so much in that article has turned out to be inaccurate or has been denied by staff.

She could have refused to talk about her in a more diplomatic way.

RayinVA on January 13, 2009 at 10:08 AM
Proof that her decision not to comment on on Palin’s part in the campaign is borne of a choice to alienate her friends in the Palin family, or call her dad and his campaign associates a bunch of viperous jerks. So instead the chooses to say nothing, which I completely understand. It’s the most diplomatic thing to say, though it puts a healthy buzz through the blogosphere.
Spc Steve on January 13, 2009 at 10:10 AM
Certainly, anything’s possible. It’s also possible that she disapproves of what her father has said or hasn’t said but doesn’t want to take him to task publicly.
Or, and I’m just throwing this one out here, maybe she’s Tripp’s real mother, and the Bristol pregnancy thing was just a ruse so we wouldn’t learn the truth about Trig, and she’s signed a confidentiality statement preventing her from even mentioning anything beyond Palin’s name in interviews.
Esthier on January 13, 2009 at 10:16 AM
That looks upside down. Petraeus/Palin would be a far stronger ticket, I think. Petraeus has done nothing but win since he went to West Point and married the Commandant’s daughter. Though I’d like to find out what his domestic policies actually are.

As to the topic, she has expressed support of the Palins before. Maybe she doesn’t want in the middle of this media battle, maybe she changed her mind, maybe she was mouthing campaign platitudes in favor of Palin during the campaign.
Dunno.
The McCain campaign/family silence on Palin is interesting, though.
Look at the bright side, though. When was the last time a losing VP candidate was in the media spotlight weeks after the campaign? Palin has the beginnings of momentum, if she can take it into 2012.
cs89 on January 13, 2009 at 10:47 AM
No, I’m not a liberal. Therefore, those people do not interest me. I’m more concerned about who is ready to tackle the issues of the day, in the smartest way possible. Romney may not be as conservative as some would like, but he’s incredibly intelligent and logical. He also did earn the endorsement of National Review.
I just don’t have any intrest in the Huckabees or Palins of the world continuing to embarass the GOP.

If you talk about inconsistency on first principles then lump Romney with Huckabee, and don’t fall for the hayseed bulldirt line from the MSM on Palin.

Obama, Biden and Caroline, may not be as conservative as some would like, but they’re incredibly intelligent and logical.
I’m not complaining about Romney. I liked him and would have preferred to have voted for him, but the Palin’s a stupid-head argument was old three months ago.
Esthier on January 13, 2009 at 11:03 AM
Well going by the data
it seems Palin and Sanford are the only GOP governors not running to Barry for money
Palin is getting attacked by the new Senator because she is not begging for more federal funds
and Sanford is only requesting the funds that have already been approved for projects
even Jindal has his hand out!!!!!!

I like both Palin and Romney. So flame me.
juliesa on January 13, 2009 at 11:11 AM
This is just me, but when someone won’t comment, the worst possibilities enter my mind, like maybe Palin was a bitch to her, or vice versa–some horrible personal fight. I’m sure that’s not it, though. Hopefully, Meghan was just being discreet and keeping her distance from the politics.
juliesa on January 13, 2009 at 11:16 AM
Gov Palin should stay in Alaska, as the rest of the 49 states are a bunch of whining back biting political hacks that don’t deserve her GREATNESS.
Meighan McCain’s blog had no problems following Palin around with a Camera and plastering her all over it during the election. I feel the McCain’s used Palin all up and than tossed her to the wolves when they were done. Maybe Sarah Palin should talk to McCain’s first wife about loyalty. I’m sure they could swap stories.
portlandon on January 13, 2009 at 11:20 AM
It’s not just you. In a way, it’s a natural reaction, but it’s our choice as to how far we take this initial reaction from a suspicion, to believing the absolute worst, and then declaring this as fact.
When Bush didn’t vigorously counter every moonbat conspiracy theory from the left – I didn’t think that their false claims (such as he lied about Iraq) was true, if only he would say ‘I didn’t lie about Iraq.’ While I wasn’t standing in the oval office next to Bush, I am also sure that Bush didn’t lie about Iraq either.
wise_man on January 13, 2009 at 11:44 AM
She’s surely smart enough to have noticed that Sarah drew way bigger crowds than her dad. She’s also smart enough to know that her dad was nothing but a tired old RINO in contrast to the energetic Sarah who represented real conservatives. Meghan really CAN’T admit these things without cutting herself off from her family.
Palin/Patraeus sounds good to me. I also like Romney (except for the MA heathcare mess).

Who’s being quoted here?
Y-not on January 13, 2009 at 12:04 PM
Link isn’t working anymore, so I’m glad I had a chance to read it yesterday before it went down.
Not comment on Sarah Palin? Seriously? How can you discuss the campaign and NOT comment on Palin? Seems like you either love her or hate her; people think she was either the best thing that happened to McCain, or the cause of the campaign’s failure. Either way, you simply cannot evaluate the positives and negatives of his campaign without figuring her into the mix.
I’m personally one who loves her; she’s the only reason I voted for McCain, and I firmly believe he would not have garnered as many votes as he did without her. His behavior after the election (specifically in regards to Palin; his silence and refusal to rebut those ridiculous anonymous stories, etc.) has truly been shameful, and I fear his daughter is simply carrying on his legacy.
ks_sonflower on January 13, 2009 at 12:07 PM
Then what would be the harm in saying so? On the contrary, she’d be lifted up on Olby and Sully’s shoulders and showered with garlands. Stewart and Colbert would put holes through the tops of their desks.
Maybe she just knows that anything she says can and will be used against the Palin family. Or even, as now, saying nothing.
Jim Treacher on January 13, 2009 at 4:15 PM
Sitting in a bed and not wearing pants/skirt is relatively modest??? If you say so. Because this interview was about her sleeping habits? Right?
herrevery on January 13, 2009 at 5:22 PM
Well, the HOW part is pretty darned simple; the only real question is WHY would McCain’s daughter want to talk about the campaign, but refuse to mention the elephant in the living room.
Let’s put it this way: How would you feel if your father had been a Presidential nominee – and all anyone ever wanted to ask you was: “What was Sarah Palin really like?”
