There’s a classic genre of New York street art that casts Republicans as, literally, the devil. Some of my earliest memories in Manhattan are of being somewhat freaked out by large posters of Ronald Reagan with red eyes and horns; some of my kids’ first memories of Brooklyn will be of stenciled images of George W. Bush with horns.
Or this other “vote” shock image of Bush from the left:
Hey, this is tame compared to the Giuliani devil art posted around the more Bohemian areas of the city back in the 1990s…
jon1979 on October 21, 2008 at 11:30 AM
I remember when I first moved to NYC in 2000 seeing graffiti on the bottom of a lamppost that said, “Hillary Sucks.” I thought, “I thought this place was supposed to be really liberal. What’s this?” Very next day it was changed to “Hillary + Socks (the cat) 2000.” They don’t miss a beat in Manhattan.

There, fixed that for you.

Oh come on. Allah lives in NY, and has probably seen some of this stuff. I am curious what or if he has seen anything like Ben’s picture.
The left gets to have a classic genre of street art.
The right creates a dangerous, hateful political atmosphere.
MayBee on October 21, 2008 at 11:48 AM
For Obamaco’s Politico’s real take on Palin, look at today’s “Arena” column.
Everyone involved in a “discussion” of the vote-getting value of the VP pick was/is a left-leaning loon who pontificated about the destruction wreaked on “aging” McCain’s campaign by Palin.
Including noted intellectual Pat Schroeder, of course.
Obamaco’s Politico’s in-the-tank-ness gets more obvious by the day. It was, and is, nothing more than another shill for Osama Obama.
The right creates a dangerous, hateful political atmosphere.

“The problem for Palin isn’t ambition, it’s hubris. A more grounded politician would have put in the work to match their aspirations. That Palin hasn’t done that bespeaks a tremendous, even scary, overconfidence.”

But does Allah ever leave his house…?
Ha. Not all that much. But no, I haven’t see anything like that. I suspect it’s confined mostly to Manhattan, where I rarely have reason to go.
Allah I bet you get your groceries delivered to you. Lucky dog. What I wouldn’t give to be able to have that ONE little luxury happen!
Ha. A lot of people do, but not me. Again, that’s more of a Manhattan thing. Plus, there’s a grocery store every three blocks so it’s kind of wasteful, I think.
Gotcha. Actually it was a Seattle thing for a while. HomeGrocer.com before it went bust Nation wide. But it is nice to have little grocery stores around. I have to drive everywhere to get what I want. The luxury of living in a city compared to the suburbs.
Both sides are flooding the internet with stupid garbage like this.
One side isn’t doing it any worse than the other.

Regarding banning Rywall: yes, he’s a troll but having a few of them around keeps things more interesting and helps avert an echo chamber effect. A little Dave keeps more Dave from being created. Hell, who knows, maybe he’ll open his mind someday and learn something.

Here in Brooklyn, and NYCm I wear my McCain-Palin button proudly, and have an M-P bumper sticker on my Powerbook (hey, I don’t own a car). Perhaps once a day, I’m stopped by someone who says “you know, that’s the first McCain button I’ve ever seen here.” Then I say how, while it’s pretty much lost in New York State, it’s not necessarily a fait accompli for the country. I thank them for saying hello, and then I go back to my blue political funk…
Blowback

I just got back from a recon mission to the web site that was put on that monstrous poster of Gov. Palin.
I found it telling that in the “about us” page that there were photos of the “artists” displayed, but their faces were digitally blurred out.
What have they got to hide if they are so proud of their “art”?
Oh I forgot, “Joe the Plumber” was vilified for asking a question in OhiO.
Over.

Do notice that Smith’s piece was flavored as cultural anthropology. That’s not a climate of hate, no. It’s just the way New Yorkers are.
