Until now, anti-Americanism has been exaggerated and much misunderstood: outside a leftist hardcore, it has mostly been anti-Bushism, opposition to this specific administration. But if McCain wins in November, that might well change. Suddenly Europeans and others will conclude that their dispute is with not only one ruling clique, but Americans themselves. For it will have been the American people, not the politicians, who will have passed up a once-in-a-generation chance for a fresh start – a fresh start the world is yearning for.
And the manner of that decision will matter, too. If it is deemed to have been about race – that Obama was rejected because of his colour – the world’s verdict will be harsh.

Just one more reason to vote McCain/Palin. When will the rest of the world realize this?

Well, Jonathan Freedland, to paraphrase Sarah Palin’s acceptance speech: we don’t vote to get into foreigners’ good graces, we vote to do what is right for the American people.

Ill never ever ever forgive them for being so stupid as to give the Russians those at-their-time advanced Rolls Royce jet engines right before the cold war. Without those I am sure we wouldn’t have had half the problems we did in the last 50 years.

America stopped caring about what the Euro-peons wanted in January of 1784. I see no reason to start now.
Exit question: Don’t a bunch of Euro countries still owe us from WWII?
If memory serves from US History class, we bankrolled post-war Europe to the tune of ~13 mil. dollars (anyone know if that’s current US$ value or 1950’s US$ value?). Any word on them paying us back for helping rebuild their ruined civilizations?

aquaviva on September 9, 2008 at 11:58 PM
One of the mistakes in Jonathan Freedland’s reasoning is a supposition that “the world” can have an opinion or render a “verdict.” Another is a supposition that anyone can be hurt by what someone else thinks of him.
Jonathan Freedland! I am beaming my dislike for you across the ocean! Feel the pain of my disdain! Is your skin crisping yet? No? D*mn. Well, then, I will project my low opinion of you to the masses! My disgust is spreading like wildfire around the world! I have united the whole world against you! We are all focusing our purest hatred upon you! Not really! We are blowing kisses at you! I think it is time to put the world on notice that the United States has finished surging the entire planet and all governments that have ridden our coattails for the past half century must now budget for their own military defense.
Those who step up to the plate will be rewarded with a mutual defense treaty. Those who read the Guardian and insist on punishing the United States because we didn’t elect Obama can deal with Moscow and Tehran.

Easily the most preposterous part of the essay. China, Russia, Cuba, Egypt, Saudi Arabia apparently also = Free World. (snicker)
More importantly though, who cares? The world’s reaction will be… what exactly, and of what practical use is world opinion? What are they going to do, return the billions in financial and military aid we send them every year?
Have fun with that, “World”. Kinda hard to complain with your mouth full of America’s golden teet.

I have concerns regarding any foreign national attempting to influence any US election.
Quite frankly, if you wish to influence an election, please immigrate legally, obtain the rights as Americans to vote in the US elections, and cast your vote.
Until you do that, stay in your lane!

Once in a generation? What a low opinion of blacks they must have to make this claim.

The fact that the World supports Obama is even more reason to get out and vote for McCain/Barracuda
