Rush Limbaugh likes to say the media chose the Democratic nominee and Republican nominee for President.
Since Friday, when the pick was announced, news surrounding Palin has been almost uniformly negative…”
Rush is right. I didn’t think they’d be happy with whomever McCain chose. They could have left the name blank (to be filled in later).
Marcus on September 2, 2008 at 8:58 PM
The Eagleton scenario is far more likely with Biden, who will eventually say something so incredibly asinine that even his mother will call for him to be thrown off the ticket.
progressoverpeace on September 2, 2008 at 8:59 PM
If McCain drops Palin, he may as well drop out of the race.
If the democrats thought they could beat her, they absolutely would not be pushing stories like this. Soak it all in. This is the day the left admitted defeat.
Ronnie on September 2, 2008 at 9:03 PM

Yup. Palin has been embraced by the base, and the attacks on her solidified that support.
I don’t think McCain’s that foolish, though. In this case, his stubborn streak actually works in our favor.

Ha. Too true. The GOP has fallen in love with her.
O’Reilly just made me angry by announcing the ObamaMessiah will be on his show Thursday night. He’s slobbering like an infant of course and it makes me furious he can’t see he’s being played like a fiddle by Team Obama. That’s McCain’s night, idiot. You have been begging for months, though, haven’t you.

Well written and amazingly stupid.
BadgerHawk on September 2, 2008 at 9:13 PM
I thought maybe this was all a conspiracy. He picks Palin, knows all the “flaws”…waits for the media to chew her up…has her drop out…then picks Lieberman and hopes the base will be so furious with the media they’ll turn out in droves.

“The best way to handle a proposed vice presidential nominee who has not been tested in national or big-state politics or high appointive office—and I have the obvious benefit of hindsight—is to float the name a few weeks before the convention and let the games begin. By opening gavel, the candidate will have run the gauntlet of press scrutiny or opposition research, or have dropped out. This approach wouldn’t necessarily work in a contested convention, and, unfortunately, it eliminates the drama of dropping the name at the convention. But it would pretty well guarantee that the news from the convention would not be dominated by questions about the vice presidential selection.”
That bolded line right there makes reading that story a waste of my life. They manage to defeat the whole point of their story by including that quote.
Palin IS A GOVERNOR, of a state that is almost as large a land mass as 50% of the mainland 48, who defeated a sitting Gov. and Ex-Gov. to win the office. She has been tested, she has had to fight dirty pols already. She will be fine.
To paraphrase one of her best lines: “The only difference between a Hockey Mom and a Pit Bull is one wears lipstick.”
The Dems are in for hell.

Has anybody seen any articles where Republicans are providing “friendly” advice on how Obama can best dump Joe Biden?
Yeah. There’s a reason for that. We have nooo problem with that guy.
logis on September 2, 2008 at 9:18 PM
Why do we even care what they think?
Because they reach more people than we do. (Barely.) And they deserve to be studied.
Wow, so on the night of Obama’s speech, McCain congratulated him. One the night of McCain’s speech, Obama’s going to try to upstage him. Even if stupid O’Reilly can’t see this, his audience will.
As much as I appreciate what O’Reilly has done in the Culture War, he got sucker punched on this one.

The MSM have thrown almost everything they have at her, and while there are some worries, I don’t see anything that would force her out. I suspect that she was made full aware that this would happen, and wouldn’t have taken the job if she thought she couldn’t handle it. Seriously, her daughter being pregnant? Obama is friends with an America-hating terrorist! That’s orders of magnitude worse!
This is a woman who wanted this job. She didn’t meekly accept it. She is a politician, and my guess is that this is the best strategy – let the media sharks do their damage now, everything, get it all out, and then there will be no more surprises. And then she can turn around and start attacking. I bet she will just shred Biden in the debate, classic rope-a-dope style.
This God video that will be shown tomorrow will cause a major stir, but if there aren’t anymore new storylines, she will be fine.
