This cult of personality surrounding Barack Obama gets sicker by the day, I mean, the followers of Ron Paul didn’t even go this far.
A new salute? C’mon. First we get the propaganda parody company Obey making actual propaganda looking images of Obama with “Progress” plastered over it. Then we get the masses of followers blindly shouting “Yes We Can.” Then we get the media acting as if Obama is the political messiah. Now we get a Obama salute.
And here I thought Jonah Goldberg was exaggerating. Ha!
I can’t think of a delicate way to say this, but I’ve seen this particular clasping of hands before, usually accompanied by an exaggerated up-and-down motion in the pelvic area, often while the person does it makes an “O” face.
Used as such, it is the sign given by someone who thinks they are being jerked around.
It sort of reminds me of the 68?? Olympics where the black athletes raised their fists as a symbol of protest. The gesture is similar I think. Even though it stands for something else and is a little different, it plays kind of close to the line for comfort in my opinion. But then, I don’t want to sound racist—or would that be anti-racist? I’ve become very confused on this particular issue over time, so please make allowances.

I’ve been to various countries and read never to give the US “OK” sign with one hand (the index finger and thumb tip in an “O”) because you might as well give them the one-middle finger salute because the “OK” sign is just as obscene to them. A world-president candidate would know this.

The comments over there keep shifting so fast it’s hard to tell but so far I’ve seen exactly zero positive.
For some reason the scene in The Mummy keeps coming to mind. The one where all the beggars are marching through the street chanting Im-Ho-Tep. In my mind I keep hearing O-Ba-Ma, O-Ba-Ma instead.

More here from the front lines of the Obama Love Cult. The Obama BAM-shake is a tangible transferable impartation of Obama’s enchanting spirit of unity.
I felt the crowd down front tighten as many of us stood on our toes, stretched our bodies forward while reaching out to Barack. I noticed that a six foot tall guy who was standing in front of me had stretched far enough above the crowd and shook hands with Barack. As the guy drew back his hand I asked him, “You shook his hand didn’t you?” Happily the guy said “Yes.” I then said, “give me some of that” and the guy shook my hand with the same hand he had just clasped with Barack’s. A woman friend of mine who was standing next to me saw me shake hands with the guy. I turned to her and said “He [the guy] just shook hands with Barack,” to which she responded…”Hey, give it up.” We then shook hands. She then turned to the person next to her and shook hands. This chain of hand shakes went on for about five or six more persons.
I did not know the tall guy in front of me; he is white, I am black. But at the moment we shook hands, I felt some solidarity with this stranger, consummated by a handshake and signifying some unspoken agreement presumably about Barack Obama and his core message of UNITY!
I call this hand-shake scenario the “BAM” because, descriptively, it takes a bit of Obama’s name and it’s the sound of a collision, of People Coming Together!
