but drew jeers and catcalls and insults about his lack of Vietnam War service. That was the year Richard Petty was retiring, and the staunch Republican and racing icon told track officials he wouldn’t drive the pace car — part of his retirement-year sendoff — if Clinton was in the parade.
I’m guessing we wouldn’t see anything like that if he does show up, because everyone will be afraid of being accused of being a racist cracker.
At least the noise of the cars (and they are really loud) will drown out anything he has to say. He will probably ask why they only make left hand turns.

Maybe Kyle Bush will endorse Barack. For those that don’t know Kyle Bush is the current points leader in the NASCAR top series but he is also one of the most hated drivers on the track for his reckless abandonment style of driving.
It would be fun for a reporter to ask Barack who his favorite driver is. Choose wisely O B Obama, and no fair taking Dale Earnhardt Jr, who I don’t like anyway.
In NASCAR when you choose a favorite you automatically gain enemies, something not even the Messiah would be able to avoid. Failure to answer the question is just further proof of his voting “Present” style of legislation.
For the record my favorite is Ryan Newman and my wife likes Kasey Kahne, more because he is driving the #9 which used to belong to Bill Elliott, then it is a crush on the baby faced little twerp.
I’m guessing we wouldn’t see anything like that if he does show up, because everyone will be afraid of being accused of being a racist cracker.

You’d think so wouldn’t you but you should have seen the reception Deval Patrick got at the Patriots Super Bowl send off rally at Gillette stadium. My 9 years old son still talks about it. He was booed so loudly for so long he could hardly be heard over the PA system. If people from PC New England greeted Deval that way, I can’t wait to see the reaction to BHO.
TheBigOldDog on July 7, 2008 at 10:36 AM
While you’re down thar, BO, be sure to stop in a local tradin’ post and ask “Can I get me a hunting license here?”

Of course NASCAR does have events in Mexico and Canada too. The race in Mexico is past but I think the Canadian one is still upcoming.

People don’t like Busch because he has no respect for anyone but himself. Because of that, I have nothing but disdain for him. If he never qualified for another race again in his life, it would be too many.
Regardless, I don’t believe Obama will do this. These days NASCAR would much prefer a bland musical performance from some pre-approved band than appearances from politicians. If he did, he would be jeered and booed, while the talking heads (Waltrip, McReynolds, etc.) brow-beat us with some lecture about being respectful. Just like they do with Kyle Busch.
Obama would run screaming like a school girl from a NASCAR race.
Too much testosterone there.

I like how all the Earnhardt Jr fans hate Kyle Busch, yet he is the closest thing to Earnhardt Sr I have ever seen, with maybe the exception of Stewart who is more a late version of Earnhardt and may have better car control than Sr.
He just wants to wave the WHITE flag.

Obama seems like a Hendrick fan. He is a perfect fit for Jeff Gordon, but since change is his thing he should support Jimmy Johnson. Hendrick racing, another reason to laugh at the Earnhardt Jr fans.
Maybe Kyle Bush will endorse Barack. For those that don’t know Kyle Bush is the current points leader in the NASCAR top series but he is also one of the most hated drivers on the track for his reckless abandonment style of driving.
I think Kyle being hated is media driven based on the Jr. Nation. I’m a Tony Stewart fan first but I love watching KyleB drive. What you refer to as reckless is a drive to win. Its my opinion that KB thinks that 2nd place is first loser. And he hates to lose.

No, it’s because he’s pretty (same reason as my wife).
But you’re obviously optimistic since you’re following Newman.

Please! Not Bristol!! BO can go anywhere but Bristol. Bristol is a holy site which should not be defiled
To have to hear Obama as I await the green flag for the Night Race At Bristol would be tourture. A nice cool waterboarding on that August night in Tenn would be less cruel.
And here I was thinking 170,000 NASCAR fans would suffice as Obamapellant. Has anyone told BO it is possible some the the NASCAR fans just might be drinking?

Obama going to a NASCAR race. That’s rich. That’s like John McCain going to a rap concert.
SoulGlo on July 7, 2008 at 1:19 PM
I heard McCain wanted to do the same thing, albeit in the Nationwide Series (Formerly Busch Racing), but he found out they already had their Mexico City Race so he just gave up.
Barack Obama’s appearance, while it would be very awkward, still isn’t as awkward as having that New York City Mayor showing up to a race. Rudy should stick to the Opera.

Ya know, NASCAR has a whole BUNCH of Bitter Clingers. Wonder if he’ll have much to say about Heller or the Assault Weapons Ban, cuz that’s what many Bitter Clingers would like to hear some change on from Obama.
Blowback
