The rule isn’t a bad one as far damping down the problem of cheerleading TV news people goes. But Fox probably should have one rule for everyone and not one for the plebs and the others for the high-profile talent who are still supposed to be newspeople more than partisan commentators.

That’s a load of crap! Sounds like she is just a young girl that was excited to be in a position to see John McCain. She’s not allowed to say it out loud yet, like someone said, we don’t know who Sean Hannity votes for?
Oink on May 9, 2008 at 1:47 PM
Have Kieth Olbermann and Chrissy Matthews not told the world for whom they voted?

jon1979 on May 9, 2008 at 1:45 PM
Good point.
That’s what I was implying. Most CNN and MSNBC on-air talent are so far up Obama a–, it should be considered paid advertising.
JammieWearingFool on May 9, 2008 at 1:42 PM
I figured that’s what you meant, just wanted to add it anyway.

JetBoy – the article specifically states that it was recorded on videotape.

He probably said it laughing – I mean come on give the guy a little credit. He’s not some horrible troll

Insiders who were at the event were surprised and shocked to hear the disclosure, which was recorded on videotape. A Fox News insider called it “journalistically unacceptable.” An FNC spokesperson would not comment on the personnel matter but did confirm Locke is no longer with the company, where she’d worked for a couple of years.
All those who’re not FOX employees, and work in any media, print this out and post it on your computers, in your offices…I must be dreaming…

I’ve only ever heard him get snarly about national defense stuff. I’m actually hoping he snarls at the press more. Kinda sick of Bush’s policy of letting the press say whatever for 8 years and not getting pissed about it until 8 months left on the last term

A Fox News insider called it “journalistically unacceptable.”
Some would call a vote for McCain in the primaries “mentally unacceptable”
Here’s me pining for the day when journalists are allowed to abandon the false pretense of “fair and balanced” and explain why they’re focusing on certain aspects of a story, and dismissing the rest. That’s what I’d call fair and balanced.
Opinion journalism is not yellow journalism. It’s the wave of the future.
Look at it this way, “faux news” is once again setting the standard for all the lesser networks, which standard they continue to ignore at their own ratings peril cuz you know, “faux news” is so biased and all.
Still, the point about Geraldo is entirely valid and causes the whole stab at professionalism to fall flat.

Yeah, they’ll fire a 24-year-old when a reprimand would’ve been appropriate. Who will they fire on Hannity and Colmes for sucking up to Al Sharpton? Will his frequent appearances be blamed on an 18-year-old kid in the mail room?
If Fox News was going to fire anyone, they should have fired Geraldo Rivera.
Hopefully someone gives Ms. Locke a job where she can use her OBVIOUS political acumen to good effect.
Always Right on May 9, 2008 at 3:21 PM
I hate to see anyone lose their job over something so trivial. Yes, that was wrong and not professional but I think a warning would have been more in order.

I have a feeling it was done because of the perceived bias in FOX News. The more their anchors come across as liberal, the more it makes them look balanced. But if one openly admits to be a conservative, it seems to confirm suspicions.
Esthier on May 9, 2008 at 3:44 PM
I think Fox News is the most straight up of all networks.
This proves it. I’m sure the young lass will land on her feet.
In a sense Fox news is morphing into the NYT. The NYT used to be unabashadly liberal, but years of whining on the right made them a liberal newspaper that feels really really guilty about being a liberal newspaper. In a couple years Fox will be a conservative network that feels really guilty about being a conservative network.

Such behavior at CNN and MessNBC would be grounds for promotion.

There’s something about this that sounds uneven. Has Hannity ever revealed that he voted for someone he had interviewed?
Vizzini on May 9, 2008 at 1:24 PM
Um, what did she do wrong? She’s not active duty military in uniform, and the comments made it to tape but not onto TV, right?
This is really quite scary, IMHO.

And she’s just a 24 year old “assistant” not an anchorwoman.
funky chicken on May 9, 2008 at 1:24 PM
Only if the target were Obama rather than McCain.

Why hasn’t Chrissy Matthews been fired he practically campaigns for Obama on every show.

Well McCain wasn’t much help. I can just hear him snarling, “You’re not supposed to reveal that.”
RushBaby on May 9, 2008 at 1:45 PM
I guess actually voting for somebody and announcing it is grounds for firing. Saying you’re going to vote for somebody isn’t.
