BREAKING: UN Grants New 'Rights and Privileges' to Palestine Delegation

The U.N. General Assembly voted by a wide margin on Friday to grant new “rights and privileges” to Palestine and called on the Security Council to favorably reconsider its request to become the 194th member of the United Nations.

The 193-member world body approved the Arab and Palestinian sponsored resolution by a vote of 143-9 with 25 abstentions.

The United States vetoed a widely backed council resolution on April 18 that would have paved the way for full United Nations membership for Palestine, a goal the Palestinians have long sought and Israel has worked to prevent.

The UN charter requires any new state to be "peace loving," which hasn't described the Palestinians in any way, shape, or form -- in Gaza or the West Bank.

Under US law, any entity recognizing a Palestinian state becomes ineligible for American funding. The UNGA is trying to thread that needle with these new "rights and privileges," but Congress may have something to say about this, especially after October 7. Note well that the UNGA has not demanded that the Palestinians return hostages or refrain from making war on Israel as a condition of these privileges.
