Crypto Billionaire Gets 4 Months in Prison for Money Laundering

Afederal judge sentenced former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao to four months in prison on Tuesday, after pleading guilty last year to violating American money-laundering laws.

Zhao created Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, and last year pleaded guilty to an array of charges that accused him of putting the company's growth over compliance with the law. The plea deal forced Zhao to step down as CEO, and pay $200 million in penalties, Politico reported.

The four months on a prison farm won't be as tough as the $200 million bite. Prosecutors wanted a three-year sentence, but the fine is probably the real prize.
