Don’t fret about Russian expansionism. Celebrity awards shows are the great equalizer.

Thought of the day

No it isn’t.

cozmo on March 3, 2014 at 9:12 AM

I simply have no words (similar to how Fineman simply has no thoughts) …

ShainS on March 3, 2014 at 9:18 AM

So, when Russian tanks roll into wherever Howard Fineman is living he seriously believes all he has to do is brandish an Oscar statuette before him and intone “By the power of diversity, tolerance, cultural creativity inherent in the Great Oscar, I command you begone” an the Russian tanks will disappear.

There is a reason folks call Hollywood La-La Land.

No Truce With Kings on March 3, 2014 at 9:19 AM

Is Fineman angling for Jack Handley’s job?

You just got to laugh at these imbeciles. In essence, “the world is on fire, the President of the US is a laughingstock but hey at least during his tenure Hollywood made a couple movies about slaves, con artists and transgenders!!!”

HumpBot Salvation on March 3, 2014 at 9:24 AM

So, if the Oscars are more powerful, then why don’t they get a move on and solve this thing before it becomes more of a crisis? Aren’t they desirous of ending all the strife in the world? Well, get to it, man!

GWB on March 3, 2014 at 9:25 AM

I truly expected a sarc tag after this tweet.

So, this guy’s some kind of journalist? Really?

What? He’s the editorial director of the AOL Huffington Post Media Group?

Oh.

Nevermind.

Fallon on March 3, 2014 at 9:28 AM

Lest we forget how critical those in Hollywood are (“important film”, “gifted actor”) I’m so glad they take the time out of their important days to remind us.

wcwindbag on March 3, 2014 at 9:33 AM

Wow. Complete buffoon. But he has a job writing drivel. On the up side he’s probably paid in PB&J and soda.

Things like this make me wish a meteor would destroy the Earth. Rapture me…

TheLoudTalker on March 3, 2014 at 9:38 AM

Oh. I guess Ukrainian Ladas just need more “COEXIST” bumper stickers.

Galtian on March 3, 2014 at 9:44 AM

I r 1337 Obama is sick Putin just a poser LOL

Fenris on March 3, 2014 at 9:48 AM

This is as good of a place to put this as any. While watching the bizarrely named Film Independent Spirit Awards with daughter, who is a big movie fan, I was appalled at (at least) one of the entries in the best documentary categories. “The brave men and women in ‘After Tiller‘.”

I yelled out loud, “That is just sick!” Couldn’t help myself. These people are inhumane hypocrites. The late term abortion doctors are brave and celebrated but they are appalled at “The… unsettling journey deep into the imaginations of mass-murderers and the shockingly banal regime of corruption and impunity they inhabit.” of another documentary.

*shaking my head*

#AcademyAwards show diversity, tolerance, cultural creativity of US in Obama Era. Hard power matters, per Putin, but Oscars r as powerful.

So the Academy Awards, and by extension, Hollywood, didn’t show these traits prior to Obama? Hollywood will be crushed to learn it only became tolerant since Obama arrived.

Bitter Clinger on March 3, 2014 at 9:52 AM

No, he is right. An actor did talk about the Congo last week. It’s good. /

CW20 on March 3, 2014 at 9:54 AM

At first I thought this was unbelievable, but …

yeah, I believe it. Sigh.

jwolf on March 3, 2014 at 10:00 AM

Was this before Matthew McConaughey’s speech? Had to be. I bet he’s rethinking this.

Cindy Munford on March 3, 2014 at 10:03 AM

Hey Herr Hitler is shelling the Danzig corridor!!

Don’t worry when he sees Gone With the Wind this will all blow over. -Howie “diversity is power” Fineman

Ted Torgerson on March 3, 2014 at 10:06 AM

I’ll start believing in diversity as a maybe worthwhile pursuit the minute I look in the back of the helicopter and see more colorful faces amongst the snake-eaters.

#AcademyAwards show diversion, intolerance, PC and selfie-congrats of US fiddling in the Obama Era. How do we still matter? Power is hard. Oscars r ass-clowning.

FIFY.

Yes, Putin is very concerned about the Oscars and their, um, ‘power.’

Look at how it’s caused him to re-think everything he’s been doing!

Another victory for Obama! Amazing!

Surprised he didn’t write “…but Oscars r2.”

Imbecility on display. I wonder how big of a splash hole a 7.62 round would make on that stupid statue. (Assuming it’s actually metallic.)
