Kentucky prisoner escapes, finds freedom is too cold, turns self back into prison

posted at 1:07 pm on January 7, 2014 by

The polar vortex is just too much to handle, even for escaped prisoners.

Just how cold is it in Kentucky? Apparently cold enough for an escaped prisoner to decide to turn himself in.

Authorities said the inmate escaped from a minimum security facility in Lexington on Sunday. As temperatures dropped into the low single digits Monday, officials say the man walked into a motel and asked the clerk to call police.

Robert Vick, 42, of Hartford told the clerk he wanted to turn himself in and escape the arctic air, Lexington police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said.

Vick was checked out by paramedics and returned to Blackburn Correctional Complex, Roberts said.

“This was definitely of his own volition,” she said. “It’s cold out there, too cold to run around. I can understand why the suspect would turn himself in.”

So global warming works for law enforcement.

All kinds of upside to this global “warming”.

Saw this at the top of DRUDGE, earlier.

I guess it’s as humorous of a story relating to this weather as your gonna get.

So they returned him to the same minimum security facility? Genius. I wonder if they have actual walls and cells.

You run one time, you got yourself a set of chains. You run twice you got yourself two sets. You ain’t gonna need no third set, ’cause you gonna get your mind right.

Great movie, I’m not sure we have regional characters around who could make a movie like that today.

This is crap. He probably learned that Raylan Givens was on his tail.

Justified returns tonight at 10 pm EST.

This guy disrupted traffic for my wife coming home on Georgetown Road (US 25) down by the Red State BBQ place over the Fayette/Scott County line. Cops all over to arrest him after he called himself in. Overkill.

Heck, I could have given him a ride to the Lexington Police Station and saved them a few thousand bucks.

Wuss!

Steal some clothes.
Hot wire a car and get the heater going.
Heck go into a homeless shelter and warm up, lay low, grab some grub and off to Mexico.

This is perfect cover!

I guess I could have picked a better day to escape from prison.

That would require intelligence. Most criminals (in prison) have very little. If it was a minimum security prison it was probably his first offense for a minor non-violent offense like possession of a controlled substance or pickpocketing. Just some dumb thug kid not smart enough to keep himself out of prison.

They’ve dropped the “warming” part (since the climate isn’t really warming) and just gone with “man made climate change”. That way, they can blame humans and try to manipulate their behavior no matter which way the wind blows.
