Video: Obamacare shutters Nevada mega-gym’s daycare facility

posted at 2:16 pm on December 16, 2013 by

Big government programs are for The Children. Except when they’re not (via the WFB):

Liberals have taken to whining about conservatives using Obamacare as a catch-all scapegoat for all of society’s ills.  To the extent that the new law is being blamed for “everything” — an exaggeration, obviously — Obamacare supporters have no one to blame but themselves.  When one markets a controversial healthcare overhaul as a panacea that will benefit everyone, with no trade-offs or losers, one should expect to reap the whirlwind when promised rainbows and butterflies fail to materialize and people start to notice.  Lies of the year don’t explode in a vacuum.  There are victims and consequences.  O’s loyalists can “explain” until they’re blue in the face; people aren’t buying the spin.  You broke it, you bought it, lefties. “B-b-but, the American healthcare system was flawed, with costs increasing, before the passage of Obamacare,” they protest.  No argument here.  But it was this president and his Congressional allies who insisted that their exorbitantly costly power-grab would eliminate these problems and usher in a new era of affordability and fairness.  It hasn’t.  Indeed, the failure has been so comprehensive that by a wide margin, Americans now say they’d prefer to turn back to the old, flawed system rather than forge ahead with the new regime.

There are victims and consequences.

There are hints and allegations, too.

Will the media create a job statistic for Obamacare’s “jobs destroyed or eliminated”?

Is this a joke, Guy? You make fun of the liberal talking point that conservatives blame everything on Obamacare by . . . writing a post about a “former employee” who claims that a gym in Reno is closing its daycare because of Obamacare?

Please tell me this was tongue in cheek (or maybe you’re secretly a liberal trying to discredit conservatives?).

You left out a few very important salient points, Guy.

The system was broken because of government. The New Deal made it bad. Medicare made it worse. HMO’s made it worse yet. All throughout the decline of American health care (which really wasn’t a decline so much as rising costs, but I digress), there’s been one common thread: government causing the problems that it claimed to solve, in the process making the problems worse and giving government more reason to intervene even more deeply.

The problems with health care aren’t really with health care per se. They are problems with health care costs. And the last thing you want to do to control the cost of anything is to get government involved. It never works. Let’s not forget that the modern health insurance industry was born of government intervention in the first place.

I have to agree. 24 Hour Fitness is the second largest gym chain in the country, after LA Fitness (which bought out many Ballys). It would be a huge deal if 24 Hour Fitness got rid of its daycare; 24 Hour Fitness gyms which have opened recently have specially designed areas just for daycare. I called my local 24 Hour Fitness, and they said they had no plans to cancel the service.

There are hundreds (thousands?) of 24 Hour Fitness locations across the country, and if one dinky, old location in Reno is no longer offering the service, I don’t know why that is a huge deal. They probably only had one or two daycare employees there. What is more likely is that the old Reno location will soon be closing, since they are opening up newer “super sport” locations everywhere. It seems like they are cutting back on services at the older locations, which will probably be closed anyway.

Does Guy have information confirming that all 24 Hour Fitness locations will be getting rid of daycare?

I am totally against Obamacare, but I hope that the bloggers here are more careful with their headlines. As a previous commenter suggested, the carelessness demonstrated by Guy only hurts our side.

Anti-tea party RINO and GOP establishment cheerleader Guy Benson, who supports mass illegal alien amnesty, should do better research better posting.
