Awful: VA Democrat gravely wounded in home attack, son killed – UPDATE: Attempted murder/suicide?

Thoughts and prayers to the family of Virginia State Senator Creigh Deeds. This is horrific:

A Virginia state senator was seriously injured early Tuesday in an assault that occurred at his house in Bath County, west of Charlottesville. A second person inside the home was found dead, according to Virginia State Police. The Richmond Times-Dispatch reported that Sen. Creigh Deeds was stabbed and critically injured and that the dead person is his son, Gus, who suffered a gunshot wound.

Deeds was the Democratic nominee for governor in 2009.  No details have yet emerged on possible suspects or motives.  Authorities will hold a press conference later today.

UPDATE – Horrible:

Have no idea, HIPAA laws prevent us from knowing and the family isn’t talking…

…where was Terry McAullife?

Terry McAuliffe expressed his sympathy and concern early on this morning. Let’s not get nasty or political over this tragedy…

Oh, horrible, horrible, horrible. I pray the senator will pull through. I also pray that God will comfort them as they struggle through all this. What a tragedy.

…it’s the Democrat in me!

Not to diminish this tragic and unfortunate occurrence, but how long do you think it will be before the media starts pointing in the “tea party’s” direction?!

I’m quite certain that they (the journalists) are quite certain that this young man was driven insane, and pushed “over-the-edge” by the Tea Party.

In a deranged mental state that had been brought on by the Tea Party, Gus Deeds lashed out at his poor father, and then himself.

That’s their story, and they’re stickin’ to it.

Thank God the son didn’t have a gun, or this could have turned out really bad…
