Time’s new cover on Chris Christie: “The elephant in the room”

posted at 8:08 am on November 7, 2013 by

Not the first time they’ve hit him with a headline on the cover that can easily be taken the wrong way. Last time they called him “the boss,” which I’m pretty sure was a Springsteen allusion but which Christie himself took as a mafia reference.

Coming in early 2016: “A jumbo-sized victory.”

Christie/Incognito 2016! The Bully/Thug ticket!Yeah Christie’s going to play real well in the South and the heartland. What a joke!

He just ran against a woman who is tougher than Hillary Clinton..

rockmom

Jesus Christ…I bet he can lower the tides and make the crippled walk too, lol.

BTW, speaking of Hillary…exit polls taken during his basically unopposed race that the dems made no effort to win have him losing to her by 6%, lol. Bad news for big boy. He’ll lose to her by 10 in a real race where the dems show up.

You guys crack me up.

rockmom on November 7, 2013 at 10:24 AM

No, you GOPe toadies who pivot from pimping one sure-loser moderate to another are hilarious. Right on cue. Tell us how lubbly-jubbly and delicious Mittmentum is again. For old times’ sake.

ddrintn on November 7, 2013 at 9:41 PM

Awesome. He’s already getting the Bachmann treatment from Time, eh? But, don’t all you wingers know? Christie is the pragmatic centrist that can win over Democrats and the press (birm). Just like McCain and Romney.

LOL…Exactly right. The more things change…

ddrintn on November 7, 2013 at 9:44 PM

I wonder if Time would ever put Obama on the cover and make a monkey reference? No, I didn’t think so.

potvin on November 7, 2013 at 9:46 AM

… or Obama on the cover with a jack@ss reference

One of the biggest problems the rightwing base has–one of many, btw–is an inability to judge things and people in the proper context.

You want Christie to be a red state conservative. You want him to check all of your boxes. He can’t be a red state conservative in NJ. Nor can he set your little uncompromising rightwing hearts aflutter and have a snowball’s chance in hell of being a viable national candidate.

I’m still angry at Christie for undermining Romney in the last days of the 2012 campaign, but the support he had across the board–women, Latinos, even some Dems–proves that a Republican can complete in a blue state.

The rightwingers just want to write off all the blue states. Great strategy, if you’re happy being losers with principles.

Greg Gutfeld aced it: first win, then fight.

Conservatives don’t want to win. That would mean “compromising.” Far too many people voted for Obama because it made them feel good. Conservatives want to fight, it seems mostly to keep people out of their exclusive little tent, because it makes them feel good. Superior. Those practical Republicans who want to win? Idiots.

You’re all still telling yourselves a little fairy tale about moderates being losers, when being moderate isn’t what did in Dole, McCain and Romney. You’re scared to death that Christie might win and put the final nail in the coffin of social conservatism, which is now politically toxic. You’re afraid Christie might win and completely pull the rug out from under the far right, showing them to be the unrealistic sanctimonious blowhards they are.

The blowhards have met a blowhard that just might be able to win without bowing down before them. Does making fun of his weight help mitigate your fear of political irrelevancy?

I’m still angry at Christie for undermining Romney in the last days of the 2012 campaign, but

What did Laura Ingraham used to call that? The monkey butt?
Eeee-eee! Ooooh-oooh! Ahhh-ahhhh!

Think about what you just wrote. A Republican undermined another Republican in the last days of a campaign, and it wasn’t for city council. And you have the nerve to add a “but…..”

I’ll never get over that. I want to see him get the exact same, if not worse.

Rags like Time do articles on the insensitivity of the name Washington Redskins, then show a picture of Christie on the cover with the title “The Elephant in the Room.” Seriously? Why do I think they may not be referring to his Republican party affiliation?

NoPain on November 8, 2013 at 8:55 AM

Looking at the Time cover photo…no…representation of Christie and see in your mind’s eye the profile of an elephant with its trunk raised/mouth opened – trumpeting.

I don’t care for Christie. He’s a RINO, he pampers NJ imams. He has a blustery, in-your-face personality which encompasses characteristics of people many would consider to be those of your typical bully. An overused word, “bully”, but on the mark for describing Christie’s sometimes persona.

Apparently TIME figures him therefore deserving of their parading his appearance for public humiliation via oh-so-clever visual snark.

No wonder the rag’s sale price was $1.

GGMac on November 8, 2013 at 10:48 AM

No more holding my nose and walking into the polling booth…if he/she ain’t verifiably conservative, take a hike. I will continue to wait for Christ’s return or my departure.

crosshugger on November 8, 2013 at 4:50 PM

Reminds me of the cover TIME ran in 2007. Obama on the cover titled and words “THE DARK HORSE.”

Oh, wait… I don’t think they ran with that.

I think I’m confusing it with the TIME cover that had Obama and “WHAT AN ASS” referring to the Democrats mascot.

hepcat on November 8, 2013 at 8:08 PM

Meredith on November 8, 2013 at 12:24 AM

You are pretty much wrong on every single point here. If RINOs are so good, where is President Romney? Where is President McCain? President Dole?

In the last 40 years we have nominated one conservative. One. He won in two landslides. The moderates are (not counting Ford because there was no way in the world he could win that one after he pardoned Nixon), 3 (Bush, Bush II, Bush II)- 4 (Bush, Dole, McCain, Romney). I think that the 2-0 (100%) is much, much better than the losing average of 3-4 (apx. 43%). You do the math.

People want, people yearn for a conservative voice. They will respond to it en masse. If there is barely a shade of grey between the two candidates (Romneycare, Obamacare), many people won’t bother to vote.

Theophile on November 9, 2013 at 12:56 AM

What happens if/when Christie gets as svelte as Jesse Jackson Jr. after his gastric bypass surgery? He’s still a RINO but what will the MSM say about him? Just wondering…

Fallon on November 9, 2013 at 9:48 AM

Just “Liberals” being “liberal”.

KMC1 on November 9, 2013 at 10:47 AM

Time does not have a COVER. They are no longer printed.

This story is a useless tidbit of internet stupidity designed to make the socialists, who destroyed the actual magazine, relevant.

Do NOT click on any link to them!

Freddy on November 9, 2013 at 3:20 PM

This is great – the guy tries to skewer conservatives for thinking that moderates are losers and then names three losers in a row.

“You’re all still telling yourselves a little fairy tale about moderates being losers, when being moderate isn’t what did in Dole, McCain and Romney.”

12th Legion on November 9, 2013 at 6:57 PM

Subtle. The “Gods of Food” headline above him was a nice touch.

righty45 on November 9, 2013 at 7:44 PM

Time’s next cover should be a picture of Obama with the caption “The Jackass in the Room.”

Let’s see how that flies.

NoPain on November 11, 2013 at 9:27 AM
