Slideshow from Assisi

Pope Francis celebrated Mass on the feast day of St. Francis in Assisi, a nod to his pontifical inspiration. It’s a beautiful little town in the mountains of Italy, and I had an opportunity to spend the day there with the students from Chesterton Academy in Minnesota, who were coincidentally visiting at the same time as the papal conclave in March. I never did post these pictures, but for those interested in Assisi after today’s stories, this will give a brief representation of the town — which was one of my sightseeing highlights from March’s trip. Hope you enjoy.

Beautiful, Ed!

Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is error, the truth;
Where there is doubt, the faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, Grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled, as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

I took a bus from Perugia to Assisi. I thought I was going to die. The bus driver was insane. As soon as someone stepped on the bus, he took off. People were thrown back and forth and couldn’t get to their seats without falling.
