TNR fantasizes about solving its Republican problem the old-fashioned way

posted at 4:28 pm on October 1, 2013 by

I’m woozy imagining the mass media pearl-clutching this would have generated if partisan affiliations were different.

Hypothetically, if things really degenerated to an attempted military coup, are the leftists so sure the military would be on their side?

jwolf on October 1, 2013 at 4:33 PM

It’s funny when liberal wussies pretend to be tough guys when guess which side champions the 2nd Amendment.

John the Libertarian on October 1, 2013 at 4:34 PM

Good thing Julia didn’t put a target over the building. That would be uncivil speech.

And, they talk the talk…

jwolf on October 1, 2013 at 4:33 PM

No. And the coup would come from the left anywho, which already feel fairly secure in their ruling structure. So no need really.
What’s happening is an awakening of the civil society to the fact of the progressive left, a sudden push to return to a nation of constitutional law instead of a charismatic caliphate (hypothetically). And that is being regarded by the praetorian press as a coup.
And no, I don’t believe the military has been convinced of the boy kings divinity(and I think they’re aware of that, thus no marshal law yet) but a progressive is constant, give’m 6,7 years.
Also godwin’s law be damned. It’s a geek rogue effort at pc, and that’s clearly oppression of opinion by false accustation. An Alinsky tactic, and that bastard is dead, so I call a facist a facist, dear sweet cousin to herr fuhrer. They don’t like it tough! Ted Bundy didn’t like being convicted either, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t sociopath as well.

Anytime you liberals wanna make it a shootin’ war, bring it on.

Kafir on October 1, 2013 at 4:56 PM

The Left’s creepy authoritarian impulses, and its salivating desire to settle political debates with mass violence, are never far from the surface.

Obama is already getting as close as he can to dissolving Congress. Ignoring laws, granting waivers without authority, refusing to enforce immigration law, refusing to produce an annual budget for 5 years. Now he is basically playing chicken to effectively eliminate the House of Representatives as a co-equal branch of government which is supposed to represent the people.

rockmom on October 1, 2013 at 5:19 PM

One more time the mask slips and we get a glimpse of the inner totalitarian that resides in every lefties heart and we do nothing. When they finally feel brave enough to give this a go we won’t be able to say we weren’t warned as we’re marched off to the camps.

DFCtomm on October 1, 2013 at 5:23 PM

Wow. I suppose this is acceptable to TNR because a tank was used rather than an AR-15.

pearl-clutching

Lolz! Makes me laugh every time. ; ) That and think of KTMOL and BuyDanish.

To the other point of the post. Lolz! Sure thing there poser. Lolz! Bring it!

“We will bury you.”

I do not think it means what The New Republic thinks it means.

Amen…this is one of the best posts I’ve ever read here on Hot Air…

Then Yeltsin did this to it.

.
Remember who venerates and preserves the Second Amendment, a$$wipes? Just try it and see how far you get…

No wonder these guys want gun control. Every time they disagree with someone, they fantasize about killing them.

They are probably under the mistaken impression that the other side has this same peculiar affect. Lucky for them, we’re not nearly as big on killing our opponents (or our opponent’s children as seems to be advocated every time they lose another gun control sortie) to get what we want.

JadeNYU on October 1, 2013 at 6:04 PM

The TNR is still pearl-clutching over Kent State; yet, advocating for a leader to turn the tanks on democratically-elected officials and ordinary Americans while burning down the Capitol is fine.

Resist We Much on October 1, 2013 at 6:42 PM

I assume that if we do end up dealing with “politics by other means” that everyone at The New Republic is going to claim that they have journalistic neutrality or some such; and that any response to their activities and statements before the transition would be somehow unfair. The ultimate cry of both Leftists and two-year-olds, “No Fair!“.

Deliberate refusal to accept reality is not a shield.

Subotai Bahadur on October 1, 2013 at 7:50 PM

See, from where I sit, the “intransigent, bull-headed governing body” is the Senate and WH…

*I* wouldn’t recommend blowing them up, of course, but if TNR wants to recommend that, well…

Midas on October 1, 2013 at 8:34 PM

Yes… fantasize about how the Soviets would have handled it… that will go off swimmingly with the electorate.

Karmashock on October 1, 2013 at 10:15 PM

Julia Ioffe is brilliant when it comes to Russian politics, but less that useless regarding American politics. Amazing how she can believe that the Russian people need freedom from a corrupt, intrusive regime of oligarchs and their media puppets yet would wish that exact system on us.

You underestimate the stupidity of John and Jane Q. Public. Obama got re-elected, remember?

gryphon202 on October 2, 2013 at 6:01 AM

This utter moron is advocating Obama as Yeltsin. And, if that isn’t hilarious enough, this JULIA then points out that Yeltsin disbanded a parliament that was unhappy with high inflation, no jobs and.a very bad economy as a result of Yeltsin’s policies! Thus proving that Obama IS Yeltsin!

ROFL!

Actually, it HAS been a new tone for TNR since they were bought by an Obama Facebook flunkie. Problem for them is, few really care what they say.
