Video: Gingrich admits love for … ABBA?

posted at 1:47 pm on September 24, 2013 by

Who knew?  It turns out that the former Speaker and I have something in common. His standard ring tone is “Dancing Queen,” but Newt chose “Super Trouper” for when his wife calls (via Jeff Dunetz):

If Gingrich had become President, would his code name have been “Fernando”?

For the record, my default ringtone is Blondie’s “Call Me.”

“Knowing Me, Knowing You” was one of the few genuinely great songs of the mid-to-late Seventies. “Dancing Queen” was good, too.

They almost made the disco era bearable.

I defy anyone to sit and stay perfectly still while “Dancing Queen” is playing.

I was in the post office and the radio was playing Staying Alive.

Nobody moved, including me, but I’m sure we were all tempted to bust out our best John Travola impressions!

ABBA! Whats not to like? Especially if you kept those two guys out of the picture. The Blond was just dreamy.

I always thought of Newt as more of a Perry Como or Dinah Washington kind of guy.

“Dancing Queen” is Lindsey Graham’s favorite ABBA hit.

I remember G. Gordon Liddy saying how he loved ABBA, as well.

Seems like something is missing in this forum if Paul Shanklin’s parody “Banking Queen” isn’t mentioned. “Barney Frank” does the singing.

You’re welcome!

…And tomorrow, when day’s dawning
And the first birds start to sing
In the pale light of the morning
Nothing’s worth remembering
It’s a dream, it’s out of reach
Scattered driftwood on a beach…

Not bad.

I think I’m OK now.
