Busted: Obamacare goalpost shifting 101

posted at 8:49 am on June 7, 2013 by

The Weekly Standard has Nancy Pelosi dead to rights here.  Thursday, June 6, 2013:

I don’t remember saying that everybody in the country would have a lower premium,” Pelosi said in response to a question from THE WEEKLY STANDARD.

And Pelosi on Meet the Press — Sunday, July 1, 2012:

Everybody will have lower rates.”

Obamacare goalpost shifting is all the rage on the left these days.  Expect it to get worse — probably much worse — as major deadlines approach and the slow-motion “trainwreck” unfolds.  Also be sure to keep an eye out for it during Democrats’ umpeenth Obamacare sales pitch, made necessary by polling results like this and this.

Is it just me, or does the Left seem to not remember anything? I have never seen so many people with a memory problems. Is it a memory problem or just another in a long list of lies?

Sabercat2 on June 7, 2013 at 9:20 AM

everybody in the country would have a lower premium

“Everybody will have lower rates.”

You guys need to start thinking like a liberal. These statements are not the same. One includes the phrase “in the country” while the other does not and one says lower premium while the other says lower rates.

See, these statements are not the same so, technically, she is correct. She never said that. She said something completely different.

Whether one wants to call it a “rate” or “premium” it is still more expensive now. Don’t try to bail her out. She lied….again!!! Surprised—NOT!

Bless your heart. You’re not familiar with sarc tags, are you?

Odysseus on June 7, 2013 at 9:41 AM

Ok, fine she said it. But she didn’t really mean it.

Doughboy on June 7, 2013 at 9:49 AM

Yet another example of making unqualified overpromises, and then walking it back and claiming they said something completely different.

And of course anyone who bothered to point out that rates would go up, or that you wouldn’t necessarily keep your plan, or that it wouldn’t reduce the deficit, is a raaaaaacist…

The Schaef on June 7, 2013 at 9:52 AM

Ok, fine she said it. But she didn’t really mean it.

Doughboy on June 7, 2013 at 9:49 AM

What difference, at this point, does it make? Pelosi happened a long time ago!

The Schaef on June 7, 2013 at 9:55 AM

Any thinking person with at least half a brain – which admittedly excuses most liberals – knew that the only outcome would be HIGHER premiums on balance. Lower premiums are actuarially and mathematically impossible.

What we are seeing now are actually intended consequences of this plan. ObamaCare was designed to fail with the ultimate resolution being a true single-payer system. This was not a mistake.

The designers and implementers of ObamaCare are more than willing to take heat and look like fools in the short term as long as a single-payer system is the ultimate result.

Meh, Nancy Pelosi could be sitting next to you hitting you with a hammer, look you in the eye and say in the sincerest of tones, “I’m not hitting you with a hammer.” The woman is a practiced and constant liar. She didn’t forget. She just lied. Again. The only thing that surprises me is that this seems to surprise anyone else.

deepdiver on June 7, 2013 at 10:33 AM

“I don’t remember saying that everybody in the country would have a lower premium,” Pelosi said in response to a question from THE WEEKLY STANDARD.

Of course not. You’re a senile old witch who can’t keep all your lies straight.

This is why Shakespeare once said…the first thing we must do is kill all the lawyers.

Why would I be surprised.

I’m old enough and wise enough in the ways of the world to know that wh0res lie.

It’s what they do…

Doughboy on June 7, 2013 at 9:49 AM

We had to pass the bill to find out what she meant.

Odysseus on June 7, 2013 at 2:26 PM

She didn’t say she didn’t say it! Just she couldn’t remember saying it.

I predict the left will deflect by accusing the the Weekly Standard of an ambush that does not add anything helpful to the current situation. “That was then, this is now… what difference does it make, anyway? Sure, your health care will cost more, but it will be BETTER! You can TRUST us, we know what’s good for you!”
