Geek rumble!

posted at 3:22 pm on May 15, 2013 by

Say, what does happen in a geek rumble?  Police in Norwich, UK had the opportunity to find out:

Rival sci-fi clubs had to be separated by ‘the force’ when police were called to break up feuding fans at a Norwich Star Wars convention.

The family event threatened to turn to the dark side and escalate into a fight between costumed characters when visiting Doctor Who fans clashed with Star Wars enthusiasts.

Officers were called at around 2.30pm on Sunday when members of the Norwich Sci Fi Club were refused entry at a fair co-hosted by Norwich Star Wars Club at the University of East Anglia.

More than a dozen sci-fi fans from both groups – including several in fancy dress – were involved in a bitter exchange outside the venue, sparked by the arrival at the event of Jim Poole, treasurer of Norwich Sci Fi Club.

Did Wookie blood flow?  Did the Slitheens and Daleks mix it up with all the Boba Fetts?  Police went to the video to review the carnage and discovered that, er … nothing happened:

Police confirmed that they had been called to reports of a man being assaulted at the convention, and arrived to find a dispute between two groups.

But a spokesman added: “After lengthy investigation, talking to witnesses and reviewing good CCTV footage, it was confirmed that there was no assault. The two rival groups were spoken to and advised to keep out of each other’s way.”

The new Star Trek movie opens this week.  I guess these folks needed to do something to attract attention.

Hardcore Star Wars fans are douches.

I’m not talking about enthusiasts. I’m talking about the ones that will go so far as to declare “Jedi” as their religion.

As soon as those Dr. Who losers get back into the Tardis, take it out with a photon torpedo, Mr. Sulu.

Ed, geeks use tools to fight, nerds use words. Please learn the difference.

Star Wars and Star Trek fans are just pissy that Doctor Who outlived them…combined.

Star Trek fans were nowhere to be seen, as the Prime Directive forbids their interference with primitive species.

Yeah, but did they dine at The Restaurant at The End of The Universe?

Life is waaaaay too easy for way too many folks in our world, today…………

Probably every Doctor has dined there at least once.

After all, Douglas Adams did write a couple of episodes in the golden era.

These geeks need to settle this in a boxing ring.

Preferably with a ring girl in a Slave Leia costume.

See, when it was just a Star Trek convention, things were peaceful. Now we call them “sci-fi conventions” and they let all the riff raff in. :-)

Meanwhile, at the Jason of Star Command convention, the two sole attendees pretty much got along.

I tried watching that on Netflix a while ago. It wasn’t as good as it was when I was a kid.

Still keeping an eye out for Space Academy, though.

Or, to put it another way, “this is not the brawl you’re looking for.”

Would the winner be the Lord of the Ring?
