“They have a small window to…hold on to a plausible veneer of not being a group of shadowy thugs.”

Professional Democrats are worried.  Via Politico:

A Democratic strategist emails:

“The AP phone records thing just sealed the deal for what the newest narrative around the Obama administration is going to be. They are the new Nixon admin when it comes to bullying, withholding info and targeting enemies. The right won’t probably call him directly Nixon because you know, Nixon was a Republican, but it will be the basic idea. You will hear claims that there has never been an administration who reached so far to suppress information and dissent. While I don’t think this is actually the full truth, it is hard to not realize this is fully the fault of the administration that perception has gotten to this point. They have a small window- I’d say 2-5 days- to try and turn this around and hold on to a plausible veneer of not being a group of shadowy thugs. But given how tone def they’ve been in the past, my money is on this being the lens through which their next 3.5 years are viewed.”

That two-to-five day clock started ticking last night, when this item was published.  Heckuva job today, huh?

I hope all these newly brave MSM writers have sealed up their divorce records. I hear tell this Obama fellow likes to reveal that kind of personal dirt.

The ship-jumping will be of epic proportions.

“…group of shadowy thugs?” Time for the CBC and their indentured media to haul out the dog whistle detectors.

Barnestormer on May 14, 2013 at 6:02 PM

I found this part amusing.

“their next 3.5 years”

Yup, nothing close to any real consequences will come out of this and they know it…they ain’t going anywhere and because of that, what incentive do they have to even begin to play it straight from here on out?

It’s like robbing a bank and never even being asked to return the money when caught, hell, that bank would be robbed ever day if word got out, lolz.

Am I wrong here?

Hey, is it time for the Columbia records??
Oh wait, we’ve got enough current dirt…..

ted c on May 14, 2013 at 6:58 PM

I love the mental flowchart these guys have to go through, just to reach a “bias confirmaton” conclusion, that Barry has nothing to do with any of this.

The end is where they start, and then work backwards to make it realz.

The fun part is to try this. It takes on a Telltale Heart quality once you realize the answer is either he’s either a puppet, incompetent or the instigator.

I’ve always hoped that Netenyahu’s Stuxnex gang managed to get in and get them. I guess by now the old microfiche trannscripts have been scanned into the system. No point in wasting ammo on a guy who’s shooting himself in the foot, though.

The media would rather have a Democrat dictatoship than a Republican democracy. They won’t let any of this get too out of hand before they kill it with silence.

“Those from the IRS that have spoken about this obviously have much greater insight into what took place than we do. We have not seen the report. We have not independently collected information about what transpired. We need the independent inspector general’s report to be released before we can make judgments. One person’s view of what actions were taken or what that individual did is not enough for us to say something concretely happened that was innapropriate,” said Carney.

I guess we are to believe that all apologies are vacuous.

J_Crater on May 14, 2013 at 7:11 PM

A few things:

1. This should be on the main page and not in the green room. It’s worthy of more discussion. That’s just my assessment.

2. Conservatives have been comparing this administration to Nixon for years. The press has finally been forced to take those comparisons seriously.

3. The time frame is much larger than this guy intimates. Because…

4.

ain’t gonna happen
cmsinaz on May 14, 2013 at 6:27 PM

I agree with this.

5. There is a small chance that this will develop into more. But that would require Speaker Boehner to actually grow a pair and appoint a select committee for Benghazi and a special prosecutor for the IRS.

Like cmsinaz said, “ain’t gonna happen.”

JohnGalt23 on May 14, 2013 at 7:53 PM

They have sealed the deal to get zilch in terms of GOP cooperation for the next 3.5 years. You earn trust and mistrust and we know, along with more and more Americans this past week, where this administration is on the credibility scale.

hillsoftx on May 14, 2013 at 7:55 PM

I’d say 2-5 days- to try and turn this around and hold on to a plausible veneer of not being a group of shadowy thugs.

They are hindered in this, by the fact that they are a group of shadowy thugs.

squint on May 14, 2013 at 8:48 PM

Here’s the thing: Obama practically campaigned on his supporters doing anything and everything, ethical or not, to get him reelected. It was all about everyone doing the dirty work so that P.BO could keep his hands clean. No mater how petty, it all added up. In some sense, they are all culpable.

.
Now, if Preezy Regulate Every Damn Economic Activity can tank the economy to a U3 of 12% or so, he can take on the mantle of Economic Destroyer and Callous Ignoramous that the Democrats have hung on Hoover for 85 years. (85 years of partisan Democrat hatred – think about that level of animosity that the Democrats don’t want to face on their own behalf.)
.
Hoover + Nixon = Øbama. It’s Newtonian I tell ya!

4+ years of evidence to the contrary. Sorry.

We are now on the cusp of which way the country will go.

Either BHO becomes lame from this, or he gets even stronger and moves even faster in a liberal panic to implement even more strangeness.

jnelchef on May 14, 2013 at 7:08 PM

Actually, they dream of a progressive dictatorship, run by “smart, sophisticated” people- like themselves. They don’t care much if those people are RINOs- cf. John McCain, Lindsay Graham, etc.

Now consider how quickly they rallied ’round the Dems in CT when they decided that Joe Leiberman was no longer a “good enough” Democrat- i.e., that his support for Israel meant that he wasn’t progressive enough.

Next, consider their visceral hatred of “Blue Dog” Democrats. What few there are, assuming that they even exist in the first place, as opposed to “campaign right, rule left” types like Bill Clinton.

Party labels are only a “badge of convenience” for the MSM. The dogma is all.

Low info voters will surely know that Khloe Kardashian got braces and Angelina Jolie had surgery; but the IRS shenanigans will never cross their screens.

I think the train’s already left the station, sorry to tell you, Mr./Ms. Strategist.

These people are just giving the public hard evidence of what conservatives always suspected about them to begin with.

Conservatives aren’t surprised that these people are turning out to be thugs, just vindicated.

Now, their power must be taken away.
