The other day I actually saw Allah and others indicating that while leftist nonsense gets a free pass here, anyone pushing conspiracy theories or linking to Alex Jones/Infowars would be banned toot sweet. Then there have been the multiple lamentations of Drudge’s IW linking recently…when he’s been doing that for years.

Suddenly HA is very prickly towards the conspiracy theory crowd, despite how they thrived(while disagreeing) on the Birthers not long ago. While I’m not amongst their number, it’s quite befuddling that leftist crazy is tolerated while another kind of crazy…even if they’re closer in values to us than the leftists…is suddenly taboo in the conservative blogosphere.

Also, do note the partisan phone line on which this gentleman rang in.

Probably true here, but a ton of people lie about their affiliation on those call lines: “Now I’m a lifelong Republican, but that speech about Guam tipping over was so moving that I just donated my life savings to the DNC.”

theperfecteconomist on May 7, 2013 at 2:15 PM

Yes, the seminar “lifelong Republican” callers are infamous on C-SPAN. It doesn’t usually work in reverse.

Guy Benson on May 7, 2013 at 2:43 PM

Don’t be too hard on “Henry”. I mean, what is the fun of being a tolerant Liberal if you can’t label a few folks and denounce a wholly conjured cabalistic conspiracy or two?

M240H on May 7, 2013 at 2:46 PM

Henry the moron.. and antisemitic hate spewing dolt..

Like when on AM radio, Medved gets called a racist by some guy calling in to support his God Obama.. then after self admitting he voted for him purely because he was black, quotes the entire the “white man is the devil” Farrakhan rambling screed of the stupid.

Used to be, that crazies were relegated to muttering to themselves in the park… now the internet and call in shows have given them a sense that IF ONLY PEOPLE COULD HEAR ME…… they would all agree that the jooo is Satan..

sigh…

Slap downs help…… if only a public sense of shame existed like it did before, when people knew personally death camp survivors, knew men who had liberated camps.. bugs like Henry shut up, because no one would tolerate that kind of vile Jew hatred..

Now, it’s almost the democrat party platform..

mark81150 on May 7, 2013 at 3:07 PM

C-SPAN consistently gives these idiots a platform and refuses to screen them out like the nutjobs they are.

http://www.camera.org/index.asp?x_context=2&x_outlet=35&x_article=2449

Note that the host didn’t even blink an eye, but went to what she thought was the important part of the question.

“I’m going to leave it there because you say we have no dog in this fight” is what she took out of it, not that this guy is a nutjob Jew-hater.

This is a regular, almost daily issue with C-SPAN, which thinks that passing along anti-Semitism like this is part of their public service.

No, it is not. Just because there are hateful people out there doesn’t mean you are obligated to give them a platform.

It’s a good thing nobody watches this crap.

Meryl Yourish on May 7, 2013 at 3:17 PM

The caller made some good points. And he slammed McCain and Graham, so extra credit for that. Lake put words in the caller’s mouth when Lake mentioned “cutouts for the state of Israel as part of a large conspiracy,” which the caller never said. The caller just suggested that McCain and Graham may be motivated more by the best interests of Israel than the best interests of the US. Surely it’s not anti-semitism to think that the Venn diagram of these two interests is not necessarily one circle.

I don’t think it’s in either the US or Israel’s interests for the US to intervene in Syria. I support Israel’s recent airstrikes as just and prudent. I think McCain and Graham use evangelical Christians’ love for the State of Israel and the abhorrence of anti-semitism that all men of good will share to mau-mau people into going along with their reflexive interventionism.

Not only did Professor Lake fail to advance the discussion, he bolstered McCain and Graham’s false pretense of moral authority. Shame on Professor Lake for providing weapons to bad guys who will only use them against us later. And by “bad guys” I of course mean McCain and Graham.

I think it’s because leftist kooks are not our kooks, and don’t reflect our side. But kooks with a right-wing bent can reflect badly on our side and we have a responsibility to keep our brand from being infected with conspiracies. Ever since Buckley kicked the Burchers and the anti-Semites out of his magazine, the right has been better at keeping a check on our kooks than then left has been with theirs.

thebrokenrattle on May 7, 2013 at 3:44 PM

Really, boko? Lake put words in the caller’s mouth? Here is EXACTLY what the caller said about Graham and McCain:

These are all pretty much talking heads for the Dick Cheney neocon wing of “lets’ go to war for the greater glory and good of Israel”.

I think you’re either a troll, or one of the conspiracy theorists.

“I regard you as a nonsense person”

cozmo on May 7, 2013 at 4:03 PM

Right, that’s what he said and I addressed that. What he did not say is that McCain and Graham are “cutouts for the state of Israel as part of a large conspiracy.” (That’s a quote from Lake, who put words in the caller’s mouth.) I don’t think that McCain and Graham are Israeli spies. (Although there are some interesting theories out there about Graham. Something about pics he wouldn’t want made public. I think tweaking Graham’s bachelorhood status is funny, but I don’t think he’s a paid or blackmailed agent.)

You know, I was going to go on and explain myself further, but F that and F you. I just reread your comment. Putting words in the caller’s mouth is exactly what Lake did and my comment made that clear when I quoted EXACTLY what Lake said.

I will say that the caller’s BS about the President’s “deliberative process” and blaming Congress for lack of progress on jobs is definitely a leftie tell.

boko fittleworth on May 7, 2013 at 4:08 PM

“cutouts for the state of Israel as part of a large conspiracy.”

Didn’t you learn anything with your first smackdown? Now you’re running away like a coward when you were proven wrong. Nice try at changing the subject but EPIC FAIL.

You know, I was going to go on and explain myself further,

Good thing you stopped, for your own benefit. You already put your own foot into your mouth, are you now trying to shove your ankle in as well?

@cozmo: I regard you as a clever person.

Meryl Yourish on May 7, 2013 at 4:38 PM

Kingfisher:

I don’t understand why you think that quote (from Lake) is changing the subject. It appears in the transcript at the Beacon link. I quoted it in my original comment. That quote isn’t running away and changing the subject, that quote IS the subject. Those are the words, the ipsissima verba, that Lake put in the caller’s mouth.

Can you please explain to me how your comments on my comments make any sense at all?

And Meryl, I said that Lake put words in the caller’s mouth. I quoted those words. I got this from the transcript at the Beacon link. (I’m unable to view the video/play the audio at work. I don’t even know if it’s video or audio only.) And you said, “Really, boko? Lake put words in the caller’s mouth?” We both know I’m right. Read the transcript.

boko fittleworth on May 7, 2013 at 4:54 PM

Boko, what you’re trying to do is claim that Lake’s quote isn’t EXACTLY what the caller stated so Lake is incorrect. Lake may have used different words but accurately stated what the caller said.

The fact that you are trying to deflect this away from the REAL subject (what the caller said) confirms your anti-Semitic beliefs. The caller made false accusations against McCain and Graham and about Israel. While I differ from both routinely, the caller deliberately lied.

Now, are you interested in proving what the caller stated or are you going to continue to whine like a crybaby over Lake? Remember, the caller made the first accusation and your intentional refusal to address that proves your cowardice.

If you have nothing constructive to say, go back to practicing your “Allah Ackbar!” rant.

While I’m not amongst their number, it’s quite befuddling that leftist crazy is tolerated while another kind of crazy…even if they’re closer in values to us than the leftists…is suddenly taboo in the conservative blogosphere.

Oh come on, be fair–how are the mods supposed to distinguish one flavor of leftist crazy from another? “The solution to racism is more racism”, “a baby’s right to life begins whenever the mother wants it to”, “Katrina was caused by Bush”, “raising the minimum wage creates more jobs”, “9/11 was a false-flag operation”, “trillion-dollar deficits lead to prosperity”, “Trig Palin is actually Bristol’s son”, “gun laws reduce gun crime”–all of those beliefs are utterly, demonstrably insane. On what rational grounds would you ban one without banning them all? Right-wing crazies can be ostracized because they’re outside of the mainstream, but leftist crazies are the mainstream.

There are conspiracy theories about US Senators being beholden to Israel such that they are Israeli agents. I hinted at one about Graham. But I don’t think the caller was being a conspiracy theorist. I demonstrated how Lake put words in his mouth to make it seem like he was. But the SPLC circle jerk disagrees and shouts me down. I oppose US intervention in Syria. In also oppose amnesty. I suppose that makes me a racist, too.

boko fittleworth on May 7, 2013 at 8:06 PM

False dichotomies. Got some good ones going on here.

Meryl Yourish on May 7, 2013 at 3:17 PM

agreed.. I used to watch C-SPAN back when it started, but lost interest long ago, when the left nutjobs started ranting on damn near every call. The occasional righty theorist got through, but mostly ours were calm and quietly made their point.. But never the left, they have become Hamas’s biggest enablers..

Once I discovered Rush.. C-SPAN and it’s false equivalence went buh bye.. I take in multiple news sources.. But C-SPAN is not on the list.

mark81150 on May 8, 2013 at 12:52 AM

Henry, aside from naming republicans as “neo-con” rush to war for Israel types, made clear he’s firmly in the “carry me, I’m helpless” wing of the hard left.

He very much boko, established the hard left’s love of hating Jews. I’m not an Evangelical, not in any established Church. I was raised a 7th Day Adventist. and reject their philosophy.. but the one thing about Israel I have always remembered, is God named them as his chosen people, you cannot be a real Christian and hate them, aside from being rank foul bigotry,.. Jesus was a Jew as well..

I have a real love for Israel.. my first memory of the state was “Cast a Giant Shadow”.. Kirk Douglas, and the beginning of modern Israel. No people on Earth has suffered such hatred, such genocide, such ignorant hate, and kept their compassionate humanity like they have..

I’m a Christian, and I stand with Israel.

Jew haters be damned.. because “neo-con is new speak for hate the Jew, and we all know it. That so many black Obama supporters are anti-Semites, is stunning considering that American Jews stood side by side with Doctor King through the worst of times.. Either they haven’t learned their history.. or that freak Farrakhan has WAY too much influence among urban democrats.

I was a teen during Entippe.. The raw courage of such a tiny state has always been an inspiration.. I enlisted during the aftermath of Desert One, men who were horribly burned were still in Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, next to Lackland, and we were all aware of the sacrifices made,.. Our enemies are the same.. our friends as well.. only mindless bigots cannot see that.

mark81150 on May 8, 2013 at 1:12 AM

Say what you will, Mark, but when they’re bombing our churches, I’ll know where my country stands vis a vis Christianity.

I remember talking to someone who was incredulous that there were any Christians in the Middle East.

The Syriac/Antiochian Christians have been supported by Assad, and the rebels have captured / possibly killed our priests and bishops. The rebels, indeed, seem to be part Al-Qaeda…

I don’t know what Israel is doing, but I suggest we let them do it alone.

RiverCocytus on May 8, 2013 at 5:08 AM

Say what you will, Mark, but when they’re bombing our churches, I’ll know where my country stands vis a vis Christianity.

You have got to be kidding.. seriously?.. our churches?

when will this supposed future event happen?

The Syriac/Antiochian Christians have been supported by Assad, and the rebels have captured / possibly killed our priests and bishops. The rebels, indeed, seem to be part Al-Qaeda…

RiverCocytus on May 8, 2013 at 5:08 AM

That makes no sense at all.. you concede it’s the muslim extremists killing Christians, and Israel has no role here in any of that..

but you’ll blame them and cut them off anyway..

Do you run these same fringe theories on Britain too?..

or just the one Jewish State?

I can’t stop your raging paranoia, but I refuse to hate a people just because some fringe types do.. refuse to buy into a fever swamp of hypothetical maybe’s that Israel wants to kill Christians..`

You have no proof, no evidence, admit you have no idea what’s going on..

but still blame the Jews..

and you can’t see what’s wrong with that?

I believe in the Bible, believe that the Jewish people have been persecuted since the beginning, and still, after all the mistrust, all the persecution..

They give more of themselves to charity than most, send aid to the Palestinians who have done nothing but hate them just for being alive.. but because Iran is a threat to them as well as Europe, as well as to us..

The fringe yells conspiracy..

enough..

I don’t hate on cue. Not the average Iraqi, not the Germany which produced my grandfathers family, not the Jewish state.. A western style Democratic Parliamentary state, with civil rights, with an elected government.. and we’re supposed to let them die..

no.. I won’t.. and neither will Christians who care about common decency..

‘Bomb our churches”…

I’m really at a loss as to how to deal with that level of insane..

mark81150 on May 8, 2013 at 10:28 AM

mark, I think he meant the rebels are bombing our (Christians’) churches, not Israel. I don’t see any blaming of Israel.

boko fittleworth on May 8, 2013 at 11:34 AM

boko fittleworth on May 8, 2013 at 11:34 AM

Rereading that,..

My apologies for that misunderstanding.. I retract any words that brought offense over my mistaken reading..

The point I stand by, is my serious concern that many people in the US are so adamantly anti-Israel.. They rail against our helping Israel, all because it’s either expensive, or because they favor the Palestinian side, no matter what atrocities they commit.

But they never bring up our commitments to South Korea or NATO.. also very expensive.. also arguably more able to pay for their own defense..

In my mind, Israel, and the United States, are righteous nations, do far more good than harm in the world.. that we aren’t natural partners to some, is maddening.
