I had to go look up where Mt. Warren Park is. The attendant did a good job at getting the fuel turned off.

Years ago I watched someone rip a gas pump from the concrete pad it was on. They weren’t trying to steal gas, they were just oblivious. They’d left the nozzle in the gasoline inlet/port and began to drive off.

I don’t recall if I saw any gasoline spewing.

Logus on May 1, 2013 at 4:15 PM

Isn’t this the plot to every ‘Mad Max’ movie?

Australians and their gasoline.

I admit, I laughed when she fell. And laughed again when I replayed it.

Morons.

changer1701 on May 1, 2013 at 4:35 PM

Uh, you might want to stop putting off that whole pre-pay policy you’ve been thinking about, Australia…

Her road rash has got to be brutal — with a little hose rash thrown in for good measure.

Why did they run? I don’t get it.

Slow news day at 4:11 pm, when by that time, CNN already had the dashcam footage of a 747 crash?

You mean the video people have been watching since yesterday afternoon. Is it any wonder the folks here on HA think you’re a moron.

Aside from your hyperpartisan trolling, how can it be a slow news day when there is a American 747 crash to report on and no thread for it? Or is that not really news on a conservative website because it doesn’t mention abortion, gays, guns, or god.

Stay with the program. Posted yesterday by Allah.

TexAz on May 1, 2013 at 6:38 PM

Who can blame someone for forgetting about the 747 crash thread? It happened so long ago.

Get lost loser.

tommer74 on May 1, 2013 at 7:11 PM

Aren’t those breakaway hose couplings supposed to shut the fuel flow off?

njcommuter on May 1, 2013 at 7:14 PM

KTC, just to pile on, you mean the 747 crash that was here and headlined at Ace of Spades, wherein there was already the discussion of cause…due to pay-load shift? You mean THAT -747 crash?

So if you are going to snidely troll about “slow news days” you might ACTUALLY want to keep up with the news being presented.

Somebody stole the shirt off that lady’s back! No wonder she had to steal gas…

Blake on May 1, 2013 at 7:30 PM

The lady also appears to be pregnant.

Poor lib trolls; they seem to genuinely get stupider by the day. Seems impossible, yet the evidence is there, every f*cking day.

Mt Warren Park where this happened is a welfare sink just up the road from where I live. This kind of thing is about typical for there (and, let’s face it, bloody everywhere). The answer to your question is:

Aussie gas stations are ‘serve yourself then go to the cashier and pay’. The station attendant noticed the car had different front and back number plates so was probably sporting stolen plates to facilitate a drive-off without paying. He was so annoyed at previous drive-offs, he went out to wedge a fire extinguisher under the front wheel of the car (thinking it would stop them). The driver realised the jig was up and drove away, knocking his accomplice to the ground.

They’ve since discovered the driver and the girl are brother and sister.

The Thin Man Returns on May 1, 2013 at 10:39 PM

Dumb gas station. They should have to pay before they pump, like most places now.

That particular idiot has been stupid for a long time.

He went on a three page rant on how airshows and car races should be banned by the government.

cozmo on May 2, 2013 at 10:36 AM

How anyplace on earth is not requiring prepayment for gasoline these days is beyond me. On the rare occasion I pull into a station that does not have pay at the pump I just pull through and go to the next station. I’m just here for gas, man, not for human interaction.

SoRight on May 2, 2013 at 11:54 AM

That left a mark.

Ronnie on May 1, 2013 at 5:05 PM

When I moved down to this part of the world (late 2002), I wondered why there were almost no petrol stations in either NZ or Australia that had “pay at the pump” credit card readers – since they have been so popular in the States for years. But over time I came to understand why this is: gasoline (petrol) itself is a very low margin business. The cost of installing card readers at the pump is only justified when petrol sales volumes are very high throughout much of the day; something you don’t normally see down here. So it’s better to have the person come into the store to pay, on the chance that they will want to buy something else. It’s quite likely that the margins of the business in Mt Warren Park are so low that the operator chooses to take his/her chances with driveoffs.

That being said, a side issue came up a couple years ago when Smartest Man In The Room, [former] Labour Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, decided to enact a massive increase in cigarette sales taxes: petrol station operators saw their profit margins fall when, following implementation of that latest cigarette tax hike, people spent the same amount of money per sale, but bought less other goods in order to maintain the amount of cigarettes purchased. The cigarette tax increase drove some petrol station operators out of business. Great goin’, Ruddy! Good on ya…bloody idiot.
