Second look at the Elian Gonzales case? Or was this couple so distasteful that even the Castro regime had no propaganda use for them? You decide:

Definitely Elian. Everything decent said that he ought to be returned to his remaining parent.

Everything decent says that these two children ought to be taken from their parents and returned to their grandparents (who were the legal guardians).

I think they were trying to pay us
back for the Carter’s visit .

They’re well-known for sending their own criminals here, so they certainly don’t want any of ours. Except, of course, all those that could be deemed “political prisoners” if they sent them home.

The only time I flew the flag upside down
was the day Janet Reno put a gun in Elian’s
face . I’ll never forget that picture .

Lucano on April 10, 2013 at 2:23 PM

No propaganda because it is not worth the paperwork and court costs. If any boats from Hatti or the US show up looking for refugee in Cuba they are sent back and they don’t need the wanted criminal label. The use Jay Z and Beyonce was such a bigger propaganda win anyways, the tank is full right now.

This is a sad case. I’ve heard that they took the kids away from the parents because of a petty Marijuana offense. I don’t know all the details but it sounds like the United States is the bad guy in this case.

It’s immoral, unjust and un-American to split up a family because of MJ possession.

Definitely Elian. Everything decent said that he ought to be returned to his remaining parent.

So do you support returning these kids to their parents and reuniting the family also? Or do you make an exception in this case because you are so virulently anti-Marijuana?

No. The grandparents have custody. Father has had his parental rights.

Officials said they have so far been able to determine that Joshua Hakken was arrested in a hotel on multiple drug charges in St. Tammany Parrish, Louisiana, where he had just attended some type of anti-government rally.

Slidell police say were called to the hotel in June in reference to a disturbance involving Mr. and Mrs. Hakken. Police say when they arrived the parents were acting in a bizarre manner that alarmed officers.

Police say they were talking about “completing their ultimate journey” and were traveling across the country to “take a journey to the Armageddon.” Police say both of the children were present in the hotel at the time.

Police say based on the parents’ behavior and the fact narcotics and weapons were inside the hotel room, officers called the Office of Child Services, who determined the children were in danger and needed to be taken into custody and temporarily placed in a foster home.

Joshua Hakken was placed under arrest and charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and the use of a controlled and dangerous substance in the presence of minors. Officers also took custody of the guns.

Two weeks later, police say they were notified Joshua Hakken had shown up at the foster family home with a firearm demanding the return of his children. The foster parents called 911 and police say Hakken fled without his children.

I would expect that, like my son, the marijuana made Mr. Hakken paranoid. He was making the same dangerous kinds of statements my son made during his addiction. Unlike my son, it appears that Mr. Hakken chose not to enter a treatment program. Also, in about 10% of the cases, the paranoia is permanent — ceasing to use marijuana does not cure the disease.

The kids are in a far better place than with their father. They are with their grandparents — family who is capable of caring for them properly.

As for Mr. and Mrs. — well, they are now up on charges which mean they will probably not see their children for years — if ever.

A co-worker of mine is currently taking care of both of his grandchildren — their mother is alcoholic and has tried to scam her way out of treatment over and over. When ordered to see a court-appointed psychologist, she bribed a non-court one to write a letter in her favor. Obviously that went over in the court like a lead balloon… My co-worker has been told by the judge to consider adoption. Since my co-worker has faith that his daughter will see the light and seek treatment, he is only willing to consider guardianship — which is one of the four possibilities under California law (the others being reunion with the mother, fostering, or adoption). I don’t know the laws in Louisiana, but they may not have all of the options a California court has.
