Video: The meanest basketball coach in the world

A lesson in why SNL struggles. They’ve got the makings of a decent gag here: Melissa McCarthy as a female Mike Rice, firing T-shirt guns at her players, can’t go wrong (assuming you’re comfortable with goofing on the Rice saga at all) unless you drag the joke out two to three times longer than it needs to be. At a bare minimum, you’d think they might have had some fun with people like Eric Bolling who defended Rice on grounds that American culture has grown too “wussified.” Imagine a Bolling-type here grasping for ever goofier reasons to excuse McCarthy’s boorishness. But no, they’re intent on beating this one joke to death for five full minutes. Too bad.

Your children don’t belong to you. They belong to the kind of people who write these gags.

My original reason for giving up on SNL… It started as far as I’m concern with Mike Myers and the ‘talk among yourself’ “Verklempt” gag… It always ran too long, and became unbearable as it ran week after week.

Their politics became totally unbearable a little after that.

SNL stopped being funny a long time ago.

That show hasn’t been funny for decades.

Yeah. The concept was good, but the execution was bad.

Never watch SNL.

Have they just ended a program by announcing:

“Sorry. We’ve got nothing. All the talent left in the 80’s. Goodnight.”

Oh, c’mon. It was a funny sketch. And the best part of it was when the athletic director told the real truth about college sports. These players are only here to make the school money.

Wait, guys… that wasn’t funny? C’mon. I thought it would suck from the description. Lighten up, it was one of their few good ones.
