How much?

Nifty.
I can just see golf courses requiring them in order to protect their greens.

Lets see that video again without the noise edited out.

If its anything like the other hovercraft I’ve been around, they won’t allow that thing anywhere near a golf course.

cozmo on April 3, 2013 at 8:22 PM

Cozmo is right. It’s about a billion times noisier. Plus it would straif a green and mess it up.

“Straif a green”? What do you mean.
It looks like it has a lot of noise reduction — all the fans are heavily shrouded.

A – the very principle on how a hovercraft works.

B – the fact that the video has been edited to remove the sound.

C – A very big “C”, the date the video was uploaded.

Cozmo is right.

cozmo is always right.

Um, do they want to mix a hovercraft and beer on a golf course?

What about the poor squirrels that get sucked into the rotors?

What is the learning curve to operate one of these carts? I envision a bunch of people stuck going in circles or pinned into the trees.

I bet it is fun, though.

Bubba! How could You promote a hovercraft golf cart and not make it look like the General Lee? Opportunity lip-out.

Mallard T. Drake on April 3, 2013 at 9:50 PM

I’ve never been so excited about golf as I am now after watching this video.

Has one been ordered with “PREZ” imprinted on the front? US tax payers want to know.

So says someone who is always wrong.

Um, do they want to mix a hovercraft and beer on a golf course?

No worse than a regular golf cart and beer. Also, most clubs do not allow alcohol on the course for exactly that reason.

What about the poor squirrels that get sucked into the rotors?

You do understand that the fans blow air DOWN, right? in fact, there are NO “rotors” on the underside of a modern hovercraft. Just outlet ports. The intake fan is up top. The squirrels are safe. (and with nicely blow-dried fur!)

What is the learning curve to operate one of these carts? I envision a bunch of people stuck going in circles or pinned into the trees.

I bet it is fun, though.

This is likely an issue. They don’t handle like a car, more like a boat. A boat that can go sideways. So unless they are really speed limited I can see some issues with them.

Oh yeah, way more fun to drive these than to golf! (Maybe we can turn old golf courses into “hovercraft parks”?)

Cozmo is right. It’s about a billion times noisier. Plus it would straif a green and mess it up.

SparkPlug on April 3, 2013 at 9:03 PM

Ok, noise is going to be an issue. Hard to tell from the video, but even muffled, the fans will be way noisier than the nearly silent electric carts.

As far as the greens go, if you watch the video you will note that it puts LESS pressure on the ground than a human foot. So, just the opposite of “messing up” a green, they would actually preserve the greens quite well.

wearyman on April 4, 2013 at 2:29 PM

This looks pretty neat, if you’re driving one. If you’re a golfer who isn’t, you’d probably be unhappy with the noise of one going by compared to a golfing cart. And the first time it blows somebody’s ball off the green or into the rough he’s going to have a fight on his hands.

Socratease on April 4, 2013 at 6:48 PM

Take out the whole “golf” thing and it looks like it could be fun … or leave the golfers on the course and add twin full-auto paintball guns to the hovercraft. A paint-job similar to the “Deathmobile” at the end of Animal House would be nice.

M240H on April 4, 2013 at 7:48 PM

driving this thing is most fun you’ll have playing golf.

phatfawzi on April 5, 2013 at 8:32 AM

I’m with converting it to a paintball weapons platform for old golf courses.

Armed with .68 cal auto paintball weaponry, and with the power available, you could run a compressor instead of relying on a tank of compressed gas.
