Fame is fleeting, but cool apparently lasts forever

Ayyyyyyyyyyyyyy! I saw this ad in several places in Rome, and I had to capture it for posterity:

fonzie-ad

I believe it translates to something like, “What would Fonzie do in my position?” It looks like a one-man standup comedy show.  It’s interesting that The Fonz (aka Henry Winkler in his Happy Days gig) is enough of a cultural icon of cool in Italy that his name gets the largest font size — and red color, to boot — in the ad.  Fonzie even gets bigger billing than the performer.

Now that’s cool.

Interesting find, Ed.

Too bad Henry Winkler is only cool in TV comedies.

To bad that wasn’t an ad on a bench so you could actually “sit on it”.

:D

It looks like a one-man standup comedy show.

Any show that has to borrow cool a foreign TV icon of 40 years ago must have already jumped the shark.

*facepalm*

Mixed up the quote & the strike tags there.

OK, I’m off to church now to get my head straight.

Fonzie is the schtick, the eye-grabber, that’s why it’s bold and in red. Very clever riff on “what would Jesus do?”

Dude, you did not just go there.

They probably think Arthur Fonzarelli is a real Italian.

I think it’s just one of those shows that translated well. I have some distant relatives in Italy who have also mentioned it from time to time.

Henry Winkler may be a nice guy, but Steve McQueen will be forever cool

Well Fonzie was an Italian American.

And now he’s selling reverse mortgages with Fred Thompson. How cool is that?

How long until this ad “Jumps the Shark”?
