It would appear that we are settling for being Democrat light! The slope of “our” line is equal to that of the socialists! Our line should be flat or descending for the next 10 years! If this is the best the Repubs have, it’s high time for a new 2nd party. Or, let the shooting begin!…

No, we need a third line… Projected GDP (with a projection that has some semblance of rational thought, not the 8% growth per year idiocy they usually use).

I think we can agree that GDP (or if you prefer Government revenue) is an important part of figuring debt.

If you make $15,000 a year and owe $5,000 you’re screwed.

If you make $150,000 a year and owe $5,000… you haven’t paid your credit card this month yet.

We need our “trendline” of Debt/GDP to go down. We don’t need total debt to go down (although given our past trendline it certainly wouldn’t be a bad thing if it did).

I tend to agree with all of you that the curve should be going _down_, but at least the GOP budget manages to get back to 2006 deficits (if Klein’s graph is correct). IIRC, $100B annual deficits haven’t been seen since then. (It of course does not help the fact that we need to get rid of our debt…)

And consider. If the budget actually repeals Obamacare, wouldn’t passing it be good in its own right? Particularly considering it cannot bind future Congresses?

Neither of these budgets is even remotely serious. So what’s the point. The GOP’s budget balances in “10 years.” That should tell you everything you need to know about the Republican party’s viability in terms of being an alternative to the Democrats.

The spectrum of American politics now runs from Kennedy Democrats (values, national defense, pro-capitalism, big government as far as the eye can see) on the right, as represented by the GOP, and Marxist-Leninist-Fascists on the left, represented by the Democrats.

Constitutionl Conservatism is now an anachronism to be laughed at, represented by no more than a handful of “cute little true believers” like Cruz & Paul.

The difference between the two is the big one. The Republican budget would not work even if passed. The Democrat one at least would function remotely close to advertised.

House budget, nothing but gimmicks. Senate budget, nothing at all.

For those who can’t read the WaPo chart, the deficits for the 2 years of spending this Congress can control (FY2014 and FY2015) are worse under the Senate Rat plan than the infamous “baseline”.

I can hear Patty “Wimpy” Murray now – “I’ll gladly slow down the deficits the year after next for more deficits today.”

And the WaPo graphic swallows whole Democrats’ claim of $1.85 trillion in deficit reductions under the Dem budget. The Hill correctly noted that the real number is $800 billion after accounting for shutting off the sequester.

What I’m wondering, and haven’t had time to research yet, is the GDP growth assumed in the GOP budget. I think that’s an important part of the comparison, and I believe the Dem budget assumes a ridiculously high rate given the economy under Obama so far.
