Watch live: Sen. Rand Paul on Hour Two of a real filibuster

posted at 12:51 pm on March 6, 2013 by

On CSPAN-2, Paul is taking the opportunity of the Brennan nomination to talk drones, due process, and define transparency for the White House. Click to watch.

Bonus points for “Alice in Wonderland” references:

Sen. Rand Paul has launched a filibuster this afternoon against President Obama’s nomination of John Brennan for the Director of the C.I.A.

Brennan is currently the White House chief counterterrorism advisor.

“I rise today to begin to filibuster John Brennan’s nomination for the CIA,” declared Paul. “I will speak until I can no longer speak.”

Citing Louis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, Paul continued. “They say Louis Carroll is fiction. Alice never fell down a rabbit hole and the White Queen’s caustic judgments are not really a threat to your security. Or has America the Beautiful become Alice’s Wonderland?

I hope Rubio can give him some bottles of water.

Once again, he proves he is a defender of the US Constitution

I have it on also. It so makes me angry that the Senate is not required to sit and listen to the Senators who make the argument, the debate. I am also angry that I don’t see one other R sitting there giving Rand support.

Ipad/Iphone users can access the audio feed with the CSPAN radio app as well, no video though. It is on CSPAN2.

Very impressive; he’s going into his third hour and he’s still on topic, not just reading from the phone book.

No, you’re not. I feel like Lincoln when he was asked about General Grant. We cannot spare this man. He fights.

Still going strong, and making a lot of sense (not just reading from the phone book). The legacy media can be counted on to try to marginalize/trivialize this, but it is hard to imagine that they can ignore it, and that is the Senator’s point.

This is an increasing embarassment for the President (if he is capable of embarassment), since he is being held to account by a single Senator on the floor of the Senate…however the President responds, he loses, no?

I wonder, when will we hear from the lefty civil libertarians?
