Poll: France’s Socialist president now the least popular in thirty years

posted at 2:00 pm on February 28, 2013 by

It would appear that leading by waving the banner of populism won’t necessarily make you popular. C’est bizarre, non?

Ten months into his mandate, President Francois Hollande scored the worst of any French president since 1981 in the TNS Sofres poll for Le Figaro magazine released on Thursday as he struggles to spur economic growth and create jobs.

Socialist voters who propelled Hollande to the presidency in May 2012 are now questioning his government’s handling of an economy teetering near recession, a series of industrial layoffs and joblessness at a 15-year high.

Hollande’s rating fell by 5 points in February in the monthly poll to 30 percent when respondents were asked whether they had confidence in their president to resolve the country’s problems, pulled down by a 8 point drop from Socialist voters.

They got what they voted for. There were no surprises. So, why are they whining?

.
Beacuse that is how the French have gotten others to do the hard work for them.
Whining and piddeling on themsleves like a whipped dog.

Erika, That’s because leaders in other countries actually get judged solely on whether they are up to the job and type of results they produce. Our country if filled with idiotic distractions that Obama takes full advantage of to try to pump up personal likeable numbers like appearing on late night tv, sports competitions, entertainment news shows, etc.

gsherin on February 28, 2013 at 2:08 PM

This guy really should move to America where socialism is appreciated.

rhombus on February 28, 2013 at 2:09 PM

Like all Socialist elected leaders, Francois Hollande has fallen into the trap described best by Margaret Thatcher: he has run out of other people’s money.

Steve Z on February 28, 2013 at 2:17 PM

Since the House GOP and those weasels Boehner and Cantor refuse to fight, the best thing for us is to LOSE in 2014 so Obama has a full mandate and full responsibility.

They got exactly what they voted for

krome on February 28, 2013 at 2:39 PM

Say this about the Frenchies. They may be dumb enough to vote in a socialist government, but at least they’ll express dissatisfaction with them when they screw everything up. Our electorate puts them in power and keeps trying to blame everyone but the people in charge.

I credit Depardieu.

There is no action more quintessentially French than expressing dissatisfaction.

LukeinNE on February 28, 2013 at 2:53 PM

Well, I mostly credit Hollande’s idiocy.

The French won’t be happy until they get invaded by the Germans again.

A socialist who struggles to create jobs and spur economic growth. Color me shocked.

They could have gotten by a while longer had Depardieu not emigrated to Russia.

That’s a very interesting point. One of the reasons the French fell out with Sarkozy was because he tried to become “President Bling-bling”, doing the same types of things Obama does vis a vis pop culture, sports and media. The difference is that seems to work perfectly well in America, to the extent that you can be forgiven for driving the country into the ground. Of course, Obama gets more help from the MSM than Hollande does from the French media, which is disturbing since France’s three network news stations are all owned by the government.

They are probably praying for the mercy of an occupying army to take out the Socialists!

If you look at Afghanistan you should WANT to be occupied by the American Army and be supported by the American taxpayer and nation building.

I read something like 90% of the Afghan Economy is American aid.

Come to think of it – most of that business probably ends up being from the US as well.

Why is the Champs-Elysees lined with tress?
Because the Germans prefer to march in the shade…

French WW11 military rifles for sale. Never fired. Only dropped once.

How many frenchmen does it take to defend Paris? No one knows. It’s never been tried.

The French Government announced today that it is imposing a ban on the use of fireworks at Euro Disney.

The decision comes the day after a nightly fireworks display at the park, located just 30 miles outside of Paris, caused the soldiers at a nearby French Army garrison to surrender to a group of Czech tourists

dentarthurdent on February 28, 2013 at 6:40 PM

There have been recent terrorist activities in France. Today they had to upgrade their security warning system from “Run” to “Hide”. If things get any worse they’ll have to go to “Surrender”, and then “Beg for Mercy”.

dentarthurdent on February 28, 2013 at 6:41 PM

Q: Why do the French never perform “the wave” at a soccer game?
A: Because, that’s a gesture reserved for use only in time of war.

Obama has been in Francois Hollande’s shadow (I.e. leading from behind)

A big part of that is the non partisan across the board response from all French political parties that they stop pushing Gay Marriage.

Clearly he’s not socialist enough for their liking.

ButterflyDragon on February 28, 2013 at 8:11 PM

Actually it wasn’t the socialists, it was the muslim vote that won him the office. If muslims didn’t vote or were not in France, Sarkozy would’ve won. Shows you the influence muslims wield when there are enough of them, to lead to electing of dovish leaders to eventually destroy your nation and have Islam take over.

thinkagain on February 28, 2013 at 9:37 PM

Peasants don’t realize it’s good for them. Eventually they will come around; we all will. It’s the good life. This all takes a while to understand – reality is not what actually happens, dummies.
