A new Titanic? That is right up there with Apollo 13; launched April 11th, 1970 at 13:13 hours…. It wasn’t bad enough karma to be called Apollo 13, they just HAD to launch it at 13:13 hours and boast about that fact. The only thing that would have made it worse would have been Friday the 13th. Great business plan. I bet lots of people will line up to be crammed into crappy steerage bunks and sharing a common crapper for a week while the 1% cruise in luxury.

This concept keeps getting floated. But the reality is that it is impossible to recreate the Titanic because modern day legal requirements, and economic realities, would necessitate fundamental changes not only in the entire layout of the ship, but in the materials and processes used. In the end it would be an economic failure for many reasons not the least of which would be because most cabins would be steerage in order to be faithful to the original, and hardly anybody is going to pay the huge premium required to accommodate the myriad of inefficiencies inherent in a 100 year-old design and then live like that for a week.

Various builders has been announcing this for over decade. None have even had their keel laid.

I’ll wait before booking. It will be a nice return to a real passenger ship. Rather than the floating sardine cans they build nowdays.

He is putting in all the classes, too – including steerage. No idea if steerage will have gates to shut those people in.

I’m just superstitious and against conscious hubris enough to not seek out a cruise on the ship.

Assuming it is a fully modern construction (without the original’s design/contruction flaws) and perhaps just recreates some of the opulance of the original (at least that of the upper cabins), and it was going where I wanted to go when I wanted to go there, and it was reasonably priced, I might go on it.
