Re: Yes, Seth, too soon

Duane, I also found the Lincoln assassination joke to be in poor taste, but it didn’t really offend me.  Cheap, offensive one-liners are MacFarlane’s calling card.   Sometimes they can be irreverently hilarious; just as often, they fall flat.  What tends to bother me more than crassness or shock humor is unfunniness from handsomely-compensated comedians.  MacFarlane’s snark about the “Christian Right,” for instance, was beyond lame.  In introducing presenters Daniel Radcliffe and (a totally charisma-free) Kristen Stewart, the grinning emcee quipped, “He’s a boy wizard and she’s a girl vampire. Together, they are pretty much everything the Christian Right thinks is wrong about Hollywood.”  Har!  How edgy.

But never fear, Generalissimo — you’re  not alone in your high dudgeon.  Debbie Wasserman Schultz also pronounced herself offended by last night’s telecast.  Wah-wah.

The producers could have easily shaved a full hour from this typically bloated telecast by removing MacFarlane’s flat jokes (which was 99 percent of them) and all of the presenter schtick (it looked like most of them hadn’t even rehearsed).

someone should ask him “Hey Seth, I know you were supposed to be on 1 of the planes on 9/11 that hit the WTC, wouldn’t it have been funny if you were on that plane?” See if he thinks that’s funny.

It just wasn’t funny.

How about Parker and Stone next year? They can be offensive *and* funny.

The real question is why anyone with an ounce of self-respect and an intelligence level even slightly above retarded even watched that suck-fest.

I’m pretty sure that’s the default setting on that particular appliance.

I thought MacFarlane’s “introduction” of Meryl Streep was hilarious.

McFarland’s shows are unwatchable. The Simpsons are Einsteinian (if that’s a word) in comparison to the offensive and juvenile garbage McFarland peddles.

This is a nation where a show written by people who never mentally progressed past telling poop jokes in gradeschool has gone into multiple seasons and has a massive fanbase, and where “who mah bebbydeddy?” reality shows are all the rage.

There’s the answer to your question.

The intro with William Shatner was so lame and went on forever.

So Seth’s checklist for edgy joke material:
Christians – check
Jews – check
Women – check
Conservatives – check
Assassination of Lincoln – check

Wouldn’t it have been more edgy if he’d included the following:
Muslims – check
Obama – check
Democrats – check
Assassination of JFK and MLK – check

The Christian joke was predictable, but not particularly offensive or funny to me. There are some Christian groups that protest Harry Potter, so I guess he can claim some element of truth to his really lame joke.

What happened to Hollywood’s outrage about the war on women? They get up in arms because Mitt had binders full of women, but the boob song gets the ok for the Oscars.

After all the wailing and gnashing of teeth from Hollywood regarding gun violence, they honor Quentin Tarrantino, the king of violent movies.

I watched that video above. The bit just isn’t funny.

Jerry Lewis told a Lincoln joke when I saw him in DAMN YANKEES. It’s actually kind of racy, so I don’t think I should repeat it here. I will say, however, it got a big laugh in part because, come on, it’s Jerry Lewis!

Seth McFarland uses his despicable cartoons as a vehicle to brainwash and corrupt young minds. He is an agent of obamas rogue government that is on a mission to destroy our society and traditions and rebuild a marxist utopia. If you disagree with me you are either too stupid to realize or you are in on it.
