Video: The worst film of 2012?

posted at 5:07 pm on February 24, 2013 by

You think you’ve seen the worst film of 2012?  Take a look at the worst box-office performer of the year, which grossed … $117.  No, not $117 million, or $117,000, but one hundred and seventeen dollars.  The Ghastly Love Of Johnny X somehow missed your local theaters despite song-and-dance numbers and a $2 million budget:

This looks like John Waters-meets-Ed Wood, and not in a good way.  And if you can’t rely on Paul Williams and the late Kevin McCarthy to bring box-office power, well, I just don’t know if the world is worth enduring any more.

How can a movie do that bad? There have got to be enough suckers that will watch anything playing to get up to a million. Did it open in one theater or what?

I’m pretty sure Matt Damon’s fracking movie will come close.

Yeah, one theater. He’s doing festivals as well but those don’t count towards box office, per the video.

This is really the story of how not to market your own film that you made with your own money, it seems to me.

One showing in one theater? I worked in a theater years ago and we had a mercy rule of sorts. If fewer than so many people showed up, we gave them a refund and a ticket for a future showing and closed shop. Didn’t happen often, mostly bad weather days but at some point it’s not worth firing up the projector.

I really thought Lincoln was the worst film of the year.

Creed Bratton was in it. If it had gotten more distribution, a lot of Office fans would have gone to see it.

I guess a lot of movies get made that get no theater distribution. I suppose the one theater that showed it was the filmmaker’s hometown, or something like that.

By the way, I thought the link to this article would refer to the last Twilight movie, which won 7 Razzies last night. Including Worst Picture.

That’s a 117 more dollars than “Innocence of Muslims” made and the film maker isn’t in an American jail for offending Islam and embarrassing America in front of their Saudi “friends”. So which is the worst movie now?

LOL Ed! It’s Plan 9 From Outer Space meets Hairspray. I’d still rather watch this than the Oscars. Bill Geist had a lot of fun with this doofus and his crappy movie though.

“Branded” seems to have gotten the award for the worst movie of 2012 from the nerd community.

Hey, it has Creed Bratton, former guitarist for The Grass Roots. So it can’t be all that bad.

Sounds like a natural for Mystery Science Theatre 3000.
