So glad they’re really focused on the important stuff!

Is that a bottle of Rove’s approval?

M240H on February 13, 2013 at 4:52 PM

why is drinking water considered a career ender? Was it corporate water?

ted c on February 13, 2013 at 4:57 PM

Monica Lewinsky call your office.

Knott Buyinit on February 13, 2013 at 4:58 PM

The frame-capture of Rubio bending back down to put down the bottle while simultaneously maintaining that “deer in headlights” look directly at the camera was far more :awkward:

I mean, in the above image, Rubio’s not even doin’ the “pinky finger” thing…

Jeddite on February 13, 2013 at 4:58 PM

Actually it increases my likability.

John the Libertarian on February 13, 2013 at 4:59 PM

They should have typed “Fingers crossed” underneath that.

Cindy Munford on February 13, 2013 at 5:00 PM

Rubio should just say “what difference does it make?!” That line is keeping Clinton’s career going, and she lied about why a US Ambassador was killed along with three others on her watch on 9-11.

Weight of Glory on February 13, 2013 at 5:01 PM

Damn right it’s a career ender. For whichever CNN producer came up with this “story”.

Doughboy on February 13, 2013 at 5:01 PM

Whitewater: Nothing to see here…

RubioWater: See? SEE! He can’t be President.

This is CNN.

Why is he so thirsty? Did you know diabetics are also thirsty? So are people on ecstasy! I bet he’s tripping balls!

Nethicus on February 13, 2013 at 5:05 PM

Obama’s administration: sold hundreds of guns to Mexican drug cartels who killed hundreds of people with those guns.

Hillary Clinton: engaged in a coverup of the murder of a US Ambassador and three other US citizens, while lying to the American people as to it’s cause.

Rubio: drinks water

Media: It’s game over for Rubio’s political life!!!!!

Weight of Glory on February 13, 2013 at 5:06 PM

Our ever-vigilant media, the Fourth Estate and guardian of the people’s trust speaking truth to power once again here, asking tough questions of our government and of its chief administrator, Barack Obama, and…

Oh, sorry. I was stuck in 2000-2008 there for a second.

Good Lt on February 13, 2013 at 5:07 PM

was that on Jake Tapper’s show?

By the way, just to insert a new rabbit trail, this again proves that it doesn’t matter what “kind” of political animal we present as the face of our party.

There are those who say we can’t afford any more Todd Akins, but if they can shamelessly do this with something as natural as drinking water, then we should realize that avoiding political embarrassments shouldn’t be our focus. Outside of buying out the major networks and firing every editor and producer, I don’t know how to change this. Nancy Pelosi has said things, as recently as this week, which if were spoken by Christine O’Donnell, would be mocked day and night.

I love the pic. Even better if Rubio would have been flipping the bird as well,—-”Here is what I think of you, Obama.”

arnold ziffel on February 13, 2013 at 5:34 PM

Rand Paul 2016?

Who am I kidding? With a media as corrupt as this, we’re totally screwed.

Nessuno on February 13, 2013 at 5:35 PM

I’m surprised they haven’t gone after him for buying water bottles instead of filtering water.

portlandon on February 13, 2013 at 5:36 PM

Purely on an optics point of view, had he reached for a glass of water than a bottle, it might not have gotten as much attention. Sipping from a glass seems a bit more natural on tv than gulping a bottle of water. His aides had poor prep there.

Things the media obsesses over: bjs, big bird, binders full of women, bayonets, and now bottles. What a load of BS.

Hostile Gospel on February 13, 2013 at 5:44 PM

Pathetic, and I don’t mean that of CNN:

http://www.politico.com/blogs/media/2013/02/cnn-rubio-careerender-a-joke-156969.html

“We are joking, it was a tease,” CNN Public Relations wrote to POLITICO, via Twitter.

“It was simply a tease (posing a question) leading up to a segment with our political contributors—when Wolf [Blitzer] specifically said no one thinks this will be a career ender,” CNN spokesperson Edie Emery later told POLITICO via email.

Unfortunately for Wolf, he expected common sense of at least a 6th grader from the nutty populace of the rightwingdom. Bad call Wolfy.

Can I introduce you to the commenters at the Huffington Post:

Nerves are normal, all human beings get nervous under certain conditions, the factor that decides whether or not you are a leader when it comes to nerves is how you handle your nerve problem. Complete fail for Rubio, so nervous, his physical condition was deteriorating right before the camera…water running down from the crown of his head and probably escaping from every core of his body made him

What a performance! Body language kept saying,”I am terrified and unsure of myself.” His sippy cup moment shows such a lack of gravitas. NOT presidential material.

Doubt CNN was making a joke, just playing to its home crowd.

Yes, because people always watch the full news segment, and don’t just see the eyecatch/chyron at the beginning of a segment.

I suppose you’d be fine if your local news had a segment “Lester: Child Molester?” as long as, at the end of it, they acknowledged it was a joke and you don’t really molest children?

For those who think the MSM is boosting Rubio to tear him down in 2016, I give you Exhibit A of why I think otherwise.

thebrokenrattle on February 13, 2013 at 6:38 PM

Like I said in another thread, every GOP congressman should be doing interviews and pressers with a bottle of water at their lips somewhere during the broadcast. In fact, if asked a question and they don’t have a bottle nearby, they should respond that they’ll get right back to that issue once they get their career-ender in hand.

HiJack on February 13, 2013 at 6:50 PM

I didn’t hear his speech but it must have been awesome if this is all they can find to criticize about it. On the other hand, my second thought after “wow, just wow” was how much did Poland Spring pay for that advertising?

LizardLips on February 13, 2013 at 7:03 PM

Until we start treating the “Press” like what they are – Democrat Operatives, we will perpetually lose. We need to start calling them out and refusing to participate in their open invitations to be mauled by thier reporting that is intended to only benefit the DNC.

Better tell Liz Marlantes (Christian Science Monitor) about the GOP “messaging problem.” She says Republicans have to regain control of their message yet she does not cede any ground on the assertion that the media twists and distorts any conservative or Republican message. Add to that distortion all the Alinsky mockery that media can manage. Ø and the liberal media in this country intend to destroy any party except the Democrat Party.

This is why the right loses. You give credence to this crap by offering to criticize how a politician on TV goes after a drink.
Even if Obama did this I would not care. People here rip Obama for doing mundane things & then wonder if it’s his plan to do those mundane things bcs he’s evil.
I don’t play those dumba$$ games.
Obama is evil bcs of his ACTIONS & the POLICIES he pushes. And the fact that he is a damned liar.
All of you wasting time picking at dumba$$ details of any politicians are distracting from the real points that matter.
Gulping a bottle of water seems pretty natural if you’re hot, sweating & really fracking thirsty.
How the frack else should someone go about drinking water?
Geebus the world is full of idiots!
Stop with the micromanaging & scripting of the politicians! I care about results!
Not the fact that someone took a picture of a politician in an awkward moment. Everybody has awkward moments.
The moments that should be game changers is when a guy politically goes against the Constitution time & again.

Should have said: “whenever somebody tries to feed me as much crap as the president just did, I need a big drink of water.”

trs on February 14, 2013 at 9:11 AM

The media has become quite effective at TARGETING in advance of the possibilities.

And anyone that thinks this won’t be effective is a fool.

We see how they target early and we’ve seen how they target a newcomer (e.g. Palin).

I have yet to hear any ideas on how to conquer the MSM and their Spanish TV counterparts.

We can’t even count on a conversion AFTER they tank the country. The Democrats and their media will still blame the Republicans and be effective doing so.

Canada deserves a hard look.
