Minnesota Democrat blasts Obama nominee to run ATF

posted at 11:38 am on February 4, 2013 by

This may be something to keep an eye on when confirmation hearings roll around for Todd Jones, acting head of ATF and the nominee for the slot:

A former director of the Minneapolis FBI office sent a letter this week to members of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee denouncing B. Todd Jones’ performance as U.S. attorney in Minnesota as they prepare to consider his nomination to director of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

Donald E. Oswald, 54, a self-declared Democrat and supporter of President Obama, said he felt “morally compelled” to alert the committee about what he describes as Jones’ “atrocious professional reputation within the federal law enforcement community” in Minnesota.

“He was, and still remains, a significant impediment for federal law enforcement to effectively protect the citizens of Minnesota from violent gang, drug and gun activities,” Oswald wrote in an eight-page, single-spaced letter.

Oswald said he decided to go public with his concerns because active law enforcement officers in Minnesota are afraid to do so. “What I hope would happen is that the Senate would subpoena some of these people to come in and talk,” Oswald said in a telephone interview from his home in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Jones has been able to keep a pretty low profile at ATF since stepping in after the Operation Fast and Furious controversy broke, so I’m not sure whether the Senate Judiciary Committee will be all that interested in his past as US Attorney.  We’ll see whether Oswald can force the issue to the front burner, or whether opposition to Jones will get downplayed as the GOP sets its sights on Chuck Hagel and Richard Cordray.

I’m not sure where you get that he’s a “Minnesota Democrat”. He’s a former Minnesota Democrat, but now he’s a Floridian.

ATF should have been gutted after the fast and furious debacle.

The article said he was a “former”; the headline Ed gave it didn’t.

So is he, or was he? How exactly does on become acting anything, if it requires Senate consent? The site does states 2009-present…soooo currently is MN U.S. Attorney?

What was his role in the ‘disparate impact’ lawsuit that DoJ turdbucket Perez got Minnesota to drop so that SCOTUS doesn’t destroy their social bullship? Magner v. Gallagher.

The drug dealers are black and brown. The so-called “white collar” criminals are much more likely to be white.

The drug dealers deal in death, fast and slow. The “white collar” criminals just steal money. Lots of money, but they are property crimes in the end.

B. Todd Jones is cut from the same racist cloth as Obama and Holder. Incompetent, racist, and without principles beyond political expediency. He intends to advance himself, protect his political bosses, and get even with whitey.
