I thought this live anthem performance by Beyonce was well-sung. Are there better singers out there? Certainly. But there are a lot worse.

What really bothered me is the way she finished by smirking and asking, “any questions?” The Star-Spangled Banner is a hymn. It’s about America, it’s not about you, Beyonce.

I don’t know anything about Beyonce other than that she’s mentioned in entertainment rags a lot, so have no opinion on her music or her talent. I also never watch inauguration events (so have no idea how they’re set up), but I do know that sound production at live venues is frequently atrocious. I don’t blame her for not taking the chance.
